14-Year-Olds Become Britain’s Youngest Parents

A pair of schoolchildren have become Britain’s youngest parents, and they’re vowing to be good ones.

April Webster gave birth to her son Jamie after unprotected sex with her boyfriend, Nathan Fishbourne, when they were just 13.

The Daily Mail reports:

The pair, from Caerphilly, south Wales, have joined a growing army of child parents now juggling schoolwork with baby care.

April said: ‘Jamie wasn’t planned, but I’m going to be a great mum for him. He’s perfect and I’m going to give him everything he ever wants.’

The youngster discovered she was expecting the day before her 14th birthday and the baby was born via Caesarean section weighing 8lb 14 oz on November 15.

The pair began dating in September last year but were ‘too embarrassed’ to tell their parents they were having sex – or to ask for advice.

Nathan, who has vowed to be a good father, said he used a condom once but did not like it.

Four-week old Jamie is currently living at the home of April and her parents, Maria, 36, and Jeff, 38, while the youngster prepares to continue her schooling.

The young mum and her baby share a room with older sister, Robyn, 17, who is helping with bottle-feeding.

Nathan hopes to have the baby at the weekends, but custody arrangements have caused arguments between the young couple. It is uncertain whether they will stay together, as they are undergoing a ‘cooling off period’.

So.. what did they do wrong? In Biblical days this was common, teenagers were and still are supposed to procreate. If God gives them sexual desires (hormones) at such a young age then is it not normal of them to do this? What’s unnatural is society. Although 13 is very young.. I can‘t help but wonder if we let kids grow up faster and make them more responsible we’d have a better society in the long run. But a lot of us (everyone on this board) are too scared and want to keep our kids as adorable idiots as long as possible. I look at this a little differently.

Fat, the Bible says you need to be married. Sure, there were plenty of godless folks who didn’t give a damn, however that wasn’t exactly looked highly upon by Jews and Christians. However they DID often let the children get married at that age. See, that is what you call the advancement of society. People have since realized that children do not need to raise other children. They need life experience in order to know what to do and what not to do.

You can’t help but wonder if this will make them grow up faster? First of all, how is that a good thing? Children growing up too fast is a major problem in society. They’re more prone to make irresponsible decisions .. plus they are more likely to develop a mental illness in such cases. At the very least they will have issues. SECOND of all, how often does your theory actually happen? Normally, what happens in these situations is .. either the father ditches the MUM once he turns 16 and starts getting rebellious or the parents BOTH go rogue and give the child up for adoption.

There is a third and also likely scenario though. This one is the worst however! The parents DO stick together .. and raise the child the best they CAN. The child gets to be 14-15 and etiher has a baby themselves and/or gets into drugs/alcohol due to a poor upbringing. If nothing else, the child will most likely be messed up in the head by the time they are old enough to live on their own .. and end up living off welfare or working some petty job at a fast food joint.

      FATLib;

You are confused. On the one hand you claim that God gives them (really us) hormones that kick in early in teen years – yet overlook God’s command that it is a sin to commit adultery or fornication. You claim that we should let kids grow up faster and do ‘what comes naturally, yet want society to ‘make them more responsible’. How do you teach responsibility without teaching self-control? I think you need to re-think your position; and come up with a reasoned, and workable alternative.

In that case, God is somewhat more of a “Do as I say, not as I do” kind of guy since Mary was around 13 when Jesus was conceived. Out of wedlock, too :)

A million years of evolution tell us to reproduce as soon as we’re able. A couple of hundred years of social custom say it’s better to wait. It’s only to be expected that biology will win sometimes.

Back in Biblical days, life expectancy was around 30. Thirteen was “almost middle age.” Just think, when the little tyke graduates from high school the proud parents will be nearing Biblical end of life. Sad. UK socialism will take care of all three children in this not-so-isolated case. Move on.

Unless their parents are well-off, these new parents and their child will be just another three people on the dole.

This one was a no-win either way…..The child will be neglected by it’s “mother” because she’s too immature to take care of a child (but will probably have another one in a couple of years because she now knows spreading her legs made her special). The child should be taken for adoption, the parents of the children who made this child should be held responsible for how badly they have raised these ignorant little baby makers, and I would consider having all the children in both families removed for their own safety!

Clean it up and call it “abortion” to ease your conscious and justify your selfish desire for your freedom Mr. J… but its still murder. Your freedoms don’t allow you to place a gun to the head of someone elses head and end their life because you think you should be allowed to. What is the differance? With freedom comes a moral responsability, and a child is not a choice. You had better thank your mother every time you see her or think of her for not “making YOU a choice”.

This is something to be proud of????? I noticed that young mother said that she is going to give the baby everything it wants…. that is going to mean that the child raising a child doesn’t understand that is the sure way to distroy the life of a child. Give it what it needs and let it work for everything it wants when it is old enough. this is a shame not something to be proud of. This should be a warning to others. I had a nephew that fathered a child at 12 or 13 and the mother was 11 or 12. My brother rasied the child. Beauty child but still a shame that morals were not taught to the kids before having a child. My brother even professed to be a Born again Christian, yet did not follow through with his kids.

Stuff like this has been happening forever, the difference is 40 years ago, the girl would have been sent off to a home to have the child, and the child would have either been put up for adoption by a loving caring family mature enough to raise it, or the parents would have raised it as their own giving it and their daughter a chance at a normal successful life. The welfare state has take out all the consequences of teenage pregnancy and even reward the children for their mistakes, and running millions of lives along the way. They are truly evil.

The concept of shame has completely disappeared from society. I have a feeling these kids are enjoying their moment of “celebrity.” Yes, when the pendulum swung in the other direction and kids like these had to “disappear” to have their children it was just as bad; but today we are too much in the other direction, where there seems to be no condemnation at all. In some ways this type of behavior has been glorified by the media. Truly sad.

Sadder is the mother’s statement that she is going to give her child “everything he wants.” Typical delusions of a child, who sees the baby as a doll and the role of a parent as being an easy one. If she really loved the child, she and the father would give it up for adoption. Instead, the child will grow up being raised by a variety of people, the mother will probably never get beyond high school, and the father will one day disappear from the picture. This is a part of the recipe of poverty.

It doesn’t matter if they finish school or not. When they first began with schools, the original three R’s were reading, (w)riting, and religion (NOT arithmatic). Since that does not exist anymore, schools should not be mandatory. At one time, it was even considered normal for a 14 year-old girl to marry a 65 year old man, so these days, two 14 year olds is normal.
