2.5 Million Iranian Students to Celebrate 1979 U.S. Hostage Crisis by Marching in Support of Occupy Wall Street

How’s this for chilling:
Some 2.5 million Iranian students are commemorating what they call a “National Day Against Global Arrogance” on November 4th by rallying in solidarity with the “oppressed and deprived” members of Occupy Wall Street. The day signifies the 1979 takeover of the former U.S. embassy in Tehran by Muslim students, who held 52 Americans hostage for 444 days.
The Iran hostage crisis occurred during Jimmy Carter‘s presidency and ended with the hostages’ release just moments after newly elected President Ronald Reagan delivered his inaugural address in 1981.
Now, in 2011, Iranian students will reportedly march from the front of the former U.S. embassy in Tehran and continue towards Tehran University, where Friday prayers will reportedly be held. This year’s display is meant to show solidarity with the Occupy protesters.
Fars News Agency reports:
“2.5 million Basiji (volunteer) students on Aban 13 (November 4) will move from specified places towards the Friday prayers Mosallas (a vast prayers place in each Muslim city usually used for Friday Prayers)” by chanting slogans and voicing support for the oppressed and deprived US and European people and the Islamic nations in the Middle-East, Caretaker of Pupils and Teachers’ Basij Organization Colonel Hossein Momtahen announced at a news conference on Tuesday.

Since the 1979 takeover of the US embassy in Tehran, Iranians have been celebrating the occasion every year by holding rallies on the anniversary and marking it as the National Day against the ‘Global Arrogance’.
Iranian officials and people have on various occasions voiced their strong support for both the popular uprisings in the Middle-East and anti-capitalism protests in Europe and the US.
None of this may come as a surprise, however, as just weeks ago The Blaze reported that the new Ayatollah — Ayatollah Ali Khamenei – also expressed support for Occupy Wall Street.

The radical Iranian mullahs were testing America’s resolve, and the “students” had orders to back off if they met any armed resistance from the Embassy. The mullahs knew that if they took the Embassy—internationally-recognized sovereign territory—by force the next thing they would have seen was a sky full of American Air Force and Navy bombers and then the parachutes of a couple of Airborne brigades, soon after followed by a Marine Expeditionary Unit landing from the Persian Gulf, and their revolution would have been over. Jimmy Carter was arguably the worst American president in the 20th century. Iran would not be the problem it is today if he had had the guts and brains to stand firm.
