2 Anti-Putin Female Punk Band Members Flee Russia to Escape Arrest

MOSCOW (TheBlaze/AP) — Two members of the punk band Pussy Riot have fled Russia to avoid prosecution for a protest against Vladimir Putin that sent three of their band mates to prison, the group said Sunday.

As TheBlaze previously reported, five members of the feminist group took part in a provocative performance inside Moscow‘s main cathedral in February to protest the Russian leader’s rule and his cozy relationship with the Orthodox Church. The women wore their trademark garishly colored balaclavas, which made it difficult for police to identify them, and only three were arrested.

After a controversial trial that highlighted Putin’s crackdown on dissent since he began a third presidential term in May, the three band members were convicted of hooliganism and sentenced to two years in prison on Aug. 17. Days later, Moscow police said they were searching for the other band members, an apparent warning to the group to stop its anti-Putin protests.

Even as the judge was reading the verdict in a Moscow courtroom, one of the band members who had escaped arrest played Pussy Riot’s latest song, “Putin sets the fires of revolutions,” from the balcony of an apartment building across the street.

Pussy Riot tweeted on Sunday that the two activists had fled Russia and are “recruiting foreign feminists to prepare new protest actions.” No mention was made of where they went.

At least 12 other members of the group remain in Russia, another message on Twitter said.

While no fan of Putin’s I was in Russia this summer and saw on Russian TV what this band did. They would have been arrested here also, no doubt. This was not a free protest in a public place. It was a vulgar act and it was ugly to go into a church and start performing sex acts while the church service was going on. The Russian people do not like Putin but they hate how this band totally disrespected this worship service. Since when is it ok to go into a private church and perform sex acts against the wishes of the leaders of that church. What about the freedom of the worshippers to worship free of P Riots unbelievably selfish PR stunt?

What sex acts? They jumped around and lip synched to one of their songs then prayed to the Virgin Mary to take Putin away. There were no sex acts committed.

You say you were in Russia. So what? It doesn’t mean you understand what is going on in Russia and what Russians think of those gals performance, which sharply criticized the completely corrupted Russian highest clergy, and the Putin’s dirty use of the Russian Orthodox Church and the historical deep religiousness of Russians to gag and severely prosecute his opponents and establish a Lenin-Hitler-Stalin-like dictatorship.
But Putin also achieved a result he didn’t expect (one has to have some brain to understand, which he hasn’t): he made national heroes out of those mischievous gals.
P.S. Btw., there were no sex acts, as you falsely (or through ignorance) accuse them.
You may want to watch carefully the full performance with the original text (in Russian, of course) here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCasuaAczKY.
All English translations I saw are biased and wrong (or wrong and biased; or wrong because biased)

“saw on Russian TV what this band did,” you said.
      Wow!
Only an American Democrat who watches and believes MSNBC can say such an outrageous thing: “saw on Russian TV….”!
Now I understand why you don’t understand anything about Russia: because you swig a Russian cocktail of MSNBC, ABC, CNN, HuffingtonPost, MoveOn.org and NY Times in one glass, no ice, no lemon.

We need to bring Christianity back to the public schools, we need to quit bowing to the wishes of atheists, and we need strong work ethics.

Plus we need to put America back in the End Times of the Bible. It is disrespectful for the Bible to leave America out of the end times battle. I still think God was joking when he said that ALL Countries would come against Israel – that would mean America too. Obama said that America always will have Israel’s back – ether God or Obama is Lying. I just cant figure out which one of them it is.

Before we bring Christianity back to the public schools we need to get them to stop teaching our kids critical thinking. If that does not happen first, Christianity in the schools will not do anything first.

Interesting that not much in the USA is being made about the arrest of three women in Russia who a members of a the PXXXY Riot, performing arts group, and their two year prison sentence. Perhaps because as others have pointed out it is so similar to the crack down on free speech in the USA — Americans being detained without an arrest warrant, judges going along with the effort and only BOLD and honorable judges holding the thin line of safety for Americans, These young women were not arrested for their vulgar, lewd grocery store nor street performances but only apparently got the attention of the police for their political speech.

What do you mean not much is being made about it. I’ve seen it all over the news and the White House and State Department have both condemned the verdict. I even recall Hillary saying she doesn’t think the girls were being treated very well while in jail.

I have both liberal and conservative friends. They have children, eat turkey at christmas, take their kids to soccer practice and dance lessons. Some are christian, some are Christmas/easter christians, some are mormon, some are atheist. Some are gay, some are single, most are straight.

The liberals felt they would be persecuted if McCain won, and their children would be indoctrinated. The conservatives thought Obama would literally destroy their constitutional rights and they kept their kids home from literally a presidential “stay in school” pep rally. And either side saying “I’m a decent American” meaning some of their neighbors, half of the troops, their kid’s teachers and doctors and the guy that fixes your car are somehow not “decent Americans” is simply disgusting.

      ALL OF YOU are nuts.

There are tremendous issues needed to be discussed at a policy level: economic, social, military.

Sitting around saying you are “afraid” one candidate or the other will “take our guns”, “destroy the middle class”, “destroy our families” or “end freedom of speech” is ridiculous. Get them to state policies, debate the difference in their approach to current problems. Listen and THINK. That will tell you what they intend to do.

Obama seems to be emulating the old USSR when it comes to dissidents. Sending someone to the loony bin for disagreeing with the government is textbook communist standard operating procedure.
