2 Boys, 1 Woman Killed as Human Sacrifices to ‘Saint Death’ in Mexico

Eight people have been arrested in for allegedly killing two boys and one woman as human sacrifices for La Santa Muerte — the saint of death — in Northern Mexico, authorities said.

The boys, both 10, and woman, 55, were killed and their blood poured around an altar to the saint in a cult ritual, Jose Larrinaga, spokesman for Sonora state prosecutors told the Associated Press.

According to the AP, there had previously been no confirmed cases of human sacrifices to the saint in Mexico. “Saint Death,” depicted as a skeleton dressed in a long robe and carrying a scythe, has in recent years become a favorite among criminals and drug traffickers in Mexico, though is not recognized by the Roman Catholic Church.

The first of the three victims was apparently killed in 2009, the second in 2010 and the latest earlier this month, Larringa said. Investigations suggest their throats and wrists were slit and their blood was poured around an altar, he said.

“The ritual was held at nighttime, they lit candles,” Larrinaga said. “They sliced open the victims’ veins and, while they were still alive, they waited for them to bleed to death and collected the blood in a container.”

Authorities began investigating this month after the last victim, 10-year-old Jesus Octavio Martinez Yanez, was reported missing March 6. The investigation turned up the altar site in the Sonora city of Nacozari, about 70 miles south of Douglas, Arizona, according to the AP.

Those arrested include Silvia Meraz and her son Ramon Palacios, who Larrinaga said were leaders of the cult dedicated to La Santa Muerte. He said Meraz allegedly spread the blood around the altar while Palacios allegedly killed the victims. The suspects, many of them relatives, ranged in age from a 15-year-old girl to a 44-year-old woman.

“We all agreed to do it. Supposedly she was a witch or something,” Meraz told reporters Friday, referring to the woman victim.

“Note also that any one of his possessions which a man vows as doomed to the Lord, whether it is a human being or an animal, or a hereditary field, shall be neither sold nor ransomed; everything that is thus doomed becomes most sacred to the Lord. All human beings that are doomed lose the right to be redeemed; they must be put to death.”

get real, of what you speak is the act of giving something of value to the Lord, as part of a sacrifice. The sacrifice of the only son was not carried out and was allegorical any way. Now it is just a 20 dollar bill or some such thing. The old testament is full of symbolism and such. When was the last eye removal ceremony official carried out by anything but some drug crazed cult.

(same origins as santeria, which was the way the caribbean peoples hid their true faith from Christian missionaries and their forced conversions) The precise origins of the cult of Santa Muerte are a matter of debate, but it is most likely a syncretism between Mesoamerican and Catholic beliefs.[1] Mesoamerica had always maintained a certain reverence towards death, which manifested itself among the religious practices of ancient Mexico, including in the Aztec religion. Death became personified in Aztec and other cultures in the form of humans with half their flesh missing, symbolizing the duality of life and death. The Aztecs inherited from their ancestors the gods Mictlantecuhtli and Mictecacihuatl, the lord and lady of Mictlan, the realm of the dead, who died of natural causes. In order for the deceased to be accepted into Mictlan, offerings to the lord and lady were necessary. Many of the offerings given then are the same as those offered to Santa Muerte today.

This is a resurgence, in a Christian guise, of the Aztec Gods Mictlantecuhtli and Mictecacihuatl Lord and Lady Death. Human sacrifice to these gods was a major part of the Aztec religious calendar. It it is still seen in the Dia de los Muertos celebration. Right down to the candy skulls. According to the Aztecs, the gods needed human blood to live. It is also an offering for the help of the gods. Somebody wants the help of the gods of death. I would guess they want someone dead and want help in doing it.

This is not a Catholic issue. Paganism still flourishes around the world under the cover of the outside religions be they Catholic, Protestant or even Islam.

      @ Caveman74

      Acts 9:4-5
“He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
“Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.
“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied.”

So Jesus is asking why Saul (Saint Paul) was persecuting “HIM”. But lets put this in context…by reviewing prior passages.

      Acts 8:3
“But Saul made havock of the church, entering in from house to house, and dragging away men and women, committed them to prison.”

We see here that Saul is persecuting the “church” and members of the church, which to Jesus is just like persecuting him. This is the same Catholic Church that has been around for 2000 years. These early Christians were the Catholic Church…same Holy Tradition as we have today…same moral authority. There were no protestants at this time. Just one True and Holy Church. The Church that Christ instituted on earth. In context we can see that this is True…to persecute the Catholic Church is to persecute Christ Jesus.

Religion and Christianity are not necessarily synonymous. True Christianity requires a change of heart, from self worship to love of God Who loves all and would have His own show mercy and tell that God Himself, (Jesus said “I and The Father are One”, meaning He wasn’t the child of God as we are through accepting His sacrifice and being adopted into the family of God, but rather THAT GOD.Who looked down with love and mercy on a fallen sinful world, and said “I will go and pay the price of their sin with My own death.”) because He Is God and can separate His different personalities. (most of us are son or daughter, brother or sister, cousin, etc and friend, we just can’t separate those personalities to be in more than one place at once, God can!)
He caused just His shadow to hover over a virgin and it was enough for the Creator, to become the created, and God the Father still in Heaven to form the body of The Son within her womb. Thus our Savior was conceived, and born, grew, taught, healed, and paid the price for your AND my sins! It takes faith to believe, but it also takes faith to believe an all-powerful government cares enough about each of us, to handle EVERYTHING CONCERNING LIFE AND DEATH CALLED HEALTHCARE! DON’T TALK TO ME ABOUT RELIGION BECAUSE THAT FITS THE DEFINITION BETTER THAN A CHANGE OF HEART AND BEING FILLED WITH LOVE FOR OTHERS!

Those of you who pass on false information about the Catholic Church (worship of Mary and Saints) sound more distant from God than your claims about Catholics. We know why you do this. Protestants and secularist are in rebellion. Some of you have come so far in rebellion that you claim that a Christian need only read the bible, and not congregate with other Christians. Satan has done his work in keeping Christians from unity. That has made it much easier for attacks on the Church. Divide and conquer! And you totally play into it.

You do not see that we are now in the forefront of battling against evil and carrying the cross for the rest of you. If the history of the Catholic Church was not that of child molestation, genital mutilation (castration of boys), waging countless wars, torturing hundreds of thousands in the multiple eras of inquisition , denying scientific discovery, denying the congregation to read a Bible in their own language, and believing that you physically consume the blood and body of Christ, then I might be tempted to believe you. However, my family is Catholic and my Grandfather has even been in a recent book from the Knights of Columbus honoring men of the Catholic faith based on their works. I have no doubt that there are decent and good people in the Catholic religion, but the Catholic religion is not itself decent or good. In fact, the Catholic Church and indeed the Pope himself support communism and a single world government and monetary system. Most people do consider religion as a form of government and the Catholic Church (along with Islam and a few other religions) seek to control as much of the human population as they can.

Remember, a church is any place that two or more meet in prayer. And anytime you pray, you are praying with the Lord, so all you need is a Bible. Personally, I think that most people just use Church as a way to network and gain social status, so I totally reject your argument.

I am not Catholic, but I do believe that Mary was a sacred vessel in which Christ came. She was chosen because of the woman she was. Even as young as she was, she was recognized a pure and goodly. She deserves sacred recognition for the role she played, because I know no one now would be able to do it. She was nearly stoned to death because of this. Joseph also deserves sacred recognition for his role in accepting her pregnancy, and the role he played as Christ’s earthly father.

However, I strongly believe that we are only saved through Christ, and even He states that He is the way, the truth, and the light, that no one can come unto the Father but by Him. I pray to Jesus Christ as the mediator between me and my Heavenly Father. (I do not believe in the trinity because there are far too many scriptures which point to the fact that Christ is a separate being from God the Father. Such as when he is resurrected and he is speaking to Mary Magdalene, and he tells her not to touch him for he has not yet ascended to his father, but to go to His bretheren and say unto them “I ascend unto my Father, and your Father, and to my God and your God.”)

The problem with the Mary worship or Maryolotry is I Timothy, Chapter Two Verse five: For there is one God and One mediator between God and Men, the man, Christ Jesus. The Catholic Church takes tradition and the inspiration of the Pope and raises it above the Bible. The Catholic Church has killed hundreds of thousands of people who want only the Bible as the true source of the will of God. The Catholic Church has killed people for the sin of translating the Bible to the common tongue i.e. Tyndale. The sins of the Catholic Church are mostly against God.

“If the history of the Catholic Church was not that of child molestation…”
Given and answered. If you don’t want to accept that the Catholic Church is working diligently to prevent this from continuing then nothing will satisfy you.

Everything else that you cite in your tirade deals with history (from 109 years to an eon ago) and will never occur again. In addition you are judging from our current morals and ethics which we value today and are utterly different than the historical societies in which those events occurred.

“…believing that you physically consume the blood and body of Christ…”
If you believe that all you need is the Bible (aka Sola Scriptura) then I don’t know what you do with the direct quote from John 6, “55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.56 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.” Jesus’ own words.

“However, my family is Catholic and my Grandfather has even been in a recent book from the Knights of Columbus honoring men of the Catholic faith based on their works.”
I don’t know how citing that will add weight to your argument. It’s not germane since you distance yourself from your Catholic heritage.

      ——
WHOA! That was a greeting message, NOT a prayer. BIG, BIG difference. No one in the NT prays to or worships Mary. In fact, Jesus himself, knowing the idolatrous tendencies of fallen humankind, made it very clear that Mary was not to be worshiped or viewed as a sacred being:

=> “And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!” But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” (Luke 11:27-8).

Can you picture that? The Son of God himself is preaching to the crowds, and instead of praising GOD, that carnally-minded woman starts praising Mary. So I guess you are partially right. Those who “universally” put religion and idolatry before God and his Word, have existed ever since Adam and Eve chose Satan‘s words over God’s commandments. Thank God someone dared protest that.

      ——-
We interpret it the way Jesus meant it. If you read further on, He summarized what He had preached: “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.”

Those who interpreted Jesus’ words literally took offense at him. Unlike Roman Catholics, Jews were very aware that God forbids the drinking of blood. Jesus, and later on the Apostle Paul, both explained that the bread and the wine are taken in remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice.

Under the law, the blood of animals was applied in the natural realm for the atonement of sins. Similarly, the blood of Jesus is to be applied in the spirit realm to wash away our sins. There was no drinking of blood under either covenant, because it is an abomination to God (Lev. 17: 10-14), and one of the few ordinances of the law that was carried over into the dispensation of grace (Acts 15).

Okay, to be as brief as possible… will cite the passages which you will either know or have to look up. In the end however, it is a matter of Faith that Jesus meant what He said. Oh, by the way, there wasn’t Roman Catholics when Jesus said these words, so that part of your argument is irrelevant, but you are correct in the matter of drinking actual blood from animals. And as for taking Jesus’ words literally, they did so because He meant it literally.
1 Cor 11:23-29; Mk 14:22-24; Mt 26:26-28; Lk 22:15-20; Jn 6:53-56; 60,66…. All of these are one in accord in that they state directly Jesus’ intent… that the bread (real food) is His Body, and the wine (real drink) is His Blood. As you note in John 6:60,66 that Jesus did not call back the disciples that found his declaration to hard to accept. Indeed He stated that what He said was a matter of Faith given by the Father, “He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.” “[U]nless the Father has enabled them.” is a direct reference to Faith, for Faith is a Grace from God. You are right to bring up the Oblation Sacrifice. Under the Old Covenant blood and fat were appointed by God as an atonement, and were therefore reserved for God. Jesus fulfilled the Old Covenant (Matthew 5:17-18) and established a New Covenant (or Testament, Matthew 26:28).

The blood in which you speak of in Acts 15:20,21; 29 is blood from animals and does not pertain to the Commemorative Meal established by Jesus Christ during the Last Supper.
Now the question remains, does the bread turn into real flesh and wine into real blood? In this we go to the nature of things. The bread and wine remain unleavened bread and the wine remains fermented grapes in it’s appearance and natural qualities. However, through the Grace of the Holy Spirit in the utterance of Jesus’ words the bread and wine take on supernatural qualities. That being His Body and Blood, for His Glorified presence is supernatural and a Sacrament, given that He is the perfect Oblation Sacrifice for the sins of the world.
This New Covenant is not figurative. If it was, Paul wouldn’t have stated in 1 Corinthians 10:16-17; “Brothers and sisters: the cup of blessing we bless, is it not a participation in the Blood of Christ? The bread we break, is it not a participation in the Body of Christ?”, and further, in 1 Corinthians 10:29; “…because a person who eats and drinks without recognizing the Body is eating and drinking his own condemnation”. Paul is speaking directly to the Passover meal in which Jesus Christ commanded His Apostles and Disciples to commemorate His Oblation Sacrifice.

If you want to continue to insist that what Jesus was speaking of was a metaphor for spiritual matters the by all means go right ahead. But remember Paul’s warning in 1 Corinthians 10:16-17;29. As for me, I accept His word at face value.
John 6:47-50 says “I tell you most solemnly, everybody who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the desert and they are dead; but this is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that a man may eat it and not die.”

Remember who the Spanish priests converted in south America? They were using human sacrifice, and the church was trying to stamp it out. For which I give the catholic church a plus. If the hadn’t been there stealing the gold and silver for the church, as well as land, they would have gone on their merry way worshipping “their gods”. There the catholic church and Spain get a huge negative. When I hear those from Mexico talk about stealing land I almost have to laugh. The church had a very brutal way of dealing with those who didn’t worship their way, but all in all it was kind of a different world then. Bringing us to today, you would think people would know better, but living with the real hell that Mexico is now with cartels, they have “backslid” maybe as a defence against the evil they live with. Still, evil is evil and my heart tells me they are pure evil to murder-especialy children

WHAT? You dare to compare Spain’s record in South America to our SLAUGHTER of natives in North America?

The only place that significant indigenous people survived in this hemisphere is where the Spanish taught, fed and cared for them.

The so called “Christian” nation here in the US murdered the native people and stole their land and resources.

SPOT ON, SPOT ON, SPOT ON!!!!

Human sacrifice to the god of human secularism performed daily by the supposedly the most enlightened society in the world. Murder a child and you get jail time. Murder a child in the womb and you get government grants, accolades from the liberal press and even a nice clinic to work from.

Americans, sooner or later, the chickens will come home to roost. It has already started. Because of our worship of the god of Secular Humanism and the rejection of the GOD of the bible, America is on the slippery slope to self distruction just as every major civilization has in the past.

We can turn it around BUT it starts with cleaning out the House and Senate along with the Oval Office. Term Limits on all elected officials. A total revamping of the Plantation welfare system and a return to GOD’s principles by Americans of every race, color and ethnic background.

It will start when all Americans get on their knees and ask God’s forgiveness for our personal and national sins.

Yes I agree Savethehumans and starman70, but GOD could not have made the prophecies He made unless He knew that mankind would reach the point of no return. If you read revelation and about the day of GOD’s wrath upon all mankind, for all the terrible things that will come; man will still refuse to repent: they will even be so deceived that they will fight against the living Christ when He returns. So what I am trying to say is that this repentance that must occur to save us is not going to happen. You can however save yourself, but this country NO.

On the cross Jesus said, “It is finished.” (John 19:30) Meaning that the price for your sin, and anyone’s sin that will ask Him for forgiveness and turn from it, IS PAID! The sinless One, paid the price of death, and now all of us who have sinned have total forgiveness. So don’t live your life in fear of Judgement, because when you get there, they’ll bring out a book called “The Book of Life” in Matt 26:28 Jesus told His followers that the sacrament of wine which they should drink regularly in remembrance of His death was to be done “For this is My blood, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. (That means totally washing away!) and He told His followers to “Rejoice because your names are written in Heaven!” (Luke 10:20) These weren‘t men and women who’d never sinned, but those who’d accepted His forgiveness! And the minute you prayed for forgiveness, and turned from your sin, Your name also, was written there! So move forward in faith, knowing He paid your price, and serve through LOVE, NOT FEAR!

Seriously. This is what happens? So for two thousand years the Catholic Church has honored Mary, and we’ve seen murderous, devil worshipping, human sacrificing cults crop up around the world as a result. Sorry, but when I honor Mary (I don’t worship her, as worship of anything or anyone other than God is a grave sin), I’m drawn closer to her Son. When will people get that for decades the Mexican government oppressed the Catholic Church? Up until the 1980′s it was illegal for Catholic priests to wear their clerics in public. When Pope John Paul visited, he was breaking the law (in truth). Many Catholics were killed for the faith in Mexico. Why put this at the feet of the Church? It’s not true or fair. And really . . . “not approved by the Church” – as if they for one second considered it? Really? This is journalism at the Blaze?

Catholics do not worship Mary. We understand her to be a creature, as all human beings are creatures. She is not divine. She is venerated as an example of human virture and for being, as the angel states in Luke 1:28, “full of grace.“ The ”Hail, Mary” prayer asks her to pray for us, in the same way that one might ask a friend or a pastor to pray for us, beacuse “the prayers of a righeous man availeth much” (James 5:16). It is not a prayer of worship to Mary. God bless you.

Veneration of the Saints including Mary is not worship. Is Mary not the Mother of Jesus? As members of the Church we are part of the Body of Christ…thus Mary is our Mother also. The Ten Commandments instruct us to HONOR our Father and Mother…so Catholics HONOR Mary. She is not God…Catholics only worship God. You may want to look at Luke 1:48 “For he has looked with favor on the humility of his handmaid. For behold, from this time, all generations shall call me blessed.” If we aren‘t calling Mary Blessed and Honoring her then we aren’t fulfilling her prophecy in the Bible.
Catholics do however ask Mary and all the Saints to “pray for us sinners” (as in the Hail Mary)…just as I am sure you ask or do for your neighbor. Learn a little about the Truth that Christ’s Church Teaches before commenting in prejudice. Educated comments are always welcome!

In the Catholic Church only the Triune God receives WORSHIP, Father, Son and Holy Sprit, three-in-one! Mary is revered for her complete “yes” to God in bearing His Son, the Savior of the World. Do I ask a fellow Christian on this earth to pray for me, yes! Since God and the Saints who have have gone before us are “outside of time” I may ask a Saint to pray for me too, or remember the Saint’s life as a model for my life.

My Father, God,is to be all glorified and worshipped. His Son, the Word Made Flesh, brought us knowledge of the Father and His glorious Gospel, and died on the Cross in payment for OUR SINS–no other physical “sacrifice” is necessary, other than the sacrifice of a contrite heart. The Son was then was Resurrected to New Life through which we have The Hope of the Resurrection! God’s spirit, the Holy Spirit lives within His children and provides knowledge and guidance throughout our life.

And as @SamIamTwo reminds us, many pagan practices have been kept by those who have been “converted” to many faiths. And even abuses by some of Church practices. There are rubrics and other true information availabe for those who WANT to be educated.

Welcome to the TRUE TEACHINGS of the Catholic Church. Didn‘t wan’t others to be as illiterate as you seem to be!
