2 Cops Arrested for Drunk Driving in Squad Car While on Way to Funeral

Two Aurora, CO police officers were arrested in Wyoming this week after they were caught drunk in a patrol car, throwing trash out their windows, and driving erratically while on their way to a funeral.

But they weren’t just driving drunk. The officer who arrested them told KUSA-TV he found a cooler of beer in the car, too:

KUSA reports:

The officers were arrested in Goshen County about 6:30 p.m. They were heading to the funeral of two officers from another department who were recently killed in South Dakota, Goshen County Sherriff’s Capt. Brian Morehouse told 9Wants to Know.

Morehouse stopped the officers’ car after a volunteer firefighter called dispatch to say he saw a police car speeding, a passenger throwing trash out of the car and the officers using the vehicle’s emergency lights to pass other cars.

When Morehouse stopped the police car, he said he could smell alcohol in the car and found beer in a cooler inside the patrol car.

“These officers will be placed in a non-uniform role when they arrive back to work next week, where they won’t have contact with the public until this serious discipline is reviewed,” a police spokesperson said.

Anyone else caught driving while intoxicated would have been thrown in the jail.

Why did they not go to jail?

They should at least be relieved of duty pending trial. They will be charged and tried, won’t they?

typical…. cops protecting each other, no matter what…. we had a drunk cop “pulled over” but then let go..and when the news media confronted the police chief, his reply was that it was “a show of professional courtesy”.. the reporter then asked if he to would have been “shown courtesy” and the chief laughed and said he didn’t think so. as the reporter pressed a little more, saying that this cop was in fact 2 1/2 times the legal limit…. the response from chief was “it’s not like he was falling down drunk”. These cops always talk about how they aren’t respsected by the public…. it doesn’t come as an automatic… it needs to be earned ….. and for all you cops that are going to reply to this saying how WE just don’t understand your “sacrifices” and whining about “we’re just lucky to make it home every day”, I say BULLCRAP…you chose this job, you weren’t drafted, you wear a sidearm and have access to more firepower, wear a bullet resistant vest, then bitch about the PUBLIC (those people that you WORK for ie. your boss) having guns. when someone calls 911 you will take your time, citing your own safety concerns, leaving an elderly person to? at the same time let one of your buddies call out for help and you will have 200 cops from the neighboring 6 counties busting ass, putting public in jeapordy, in an effort to get close to “the action”. START MAKING YOURSELVES ACCOUNTABLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS AND ACT IN THE PUBLIC’S INTEREST. respect will then fol

As society has changed, the cops have changed. REally. Have you noticed how different cops are today vs. ones just ten years ago?

Watch any episode of “COPS” from the last few years. They funble with words, stutter, can barely speak, use brief sentences. Now, check out a random episode from the first dozen or two episode of the series back in the late 1980′s. What a shcoking difference, no?

I’m positive there are good cops. Smart cops. Cops that read poetry and listening to classical music, are well read, etc., but I’ve seen none here in my city. What I’ve seen:

One cop shoot his girlfriend dead; what about the psych test? How come none of the other officers knew he had problems?

Another cop resign before the crap hit the fan.

One and a brothel — that news hasn’t leaked yet.

I witnessed one throw garbage on the beach, then bury it with sand. Way to go, officer.

A few days ago, saw one hiding deep in a GRAVEYARD, watching for speeders. How unbelivably disrespectful.

Non uniform job. Like that is a good way to prevent it from ‘being seen’ the next time. Both should be fired immediately.

It should tell you a little something that they arrested both of them. The passenger sure is not drunk driving…. could that have been for drunk in public? Thank goodness I was not the officer pulling over another patrol vehicle. That is embarassing. By the way, I have never driven my patrol car while impaired! In 23 years of law enforcement, I have never heard of anything like this.

Were they really planning to attend the funeral of this wonderful young officer who lost his life while on duty, or were they looking for time off with some fun (Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is this week)? Were they really going to show up to the funeral with alcohol on their breathe? The state of South Dakota has been mourning the loss of the two officers, one died at the scene and the other died five days later, and the shooter died at the hospital.

They should know better! Take their drivers license and fire them.
The law is too lenient on drunk drivers.

That’s right. This action is indicative of a growing attitude among law enforcement in local, state and federal government that laws do not apply to them. Almost like old Soviet style party members or German Nazi party political and industrial leaders.
