2 Hollywood Heavyweights Quit TV Caucus After Liberal Bias Unveiled

Two prominent, conservative Hollywood producers have resigned in anger after it was revealed that members of their TV Caucus were caught on tape admitting (and even celebrating) the liberal bias in film and television.
Lionel Chetwynd and Norman Powell both resigned separately from the Caucus for Producers, Writers & Directors, which The Hollywood Reporter (THR) describes as “an honor society founded in 1977 by Norman Lear, James Komack, Aaron Spelling, Richard Levinson and others to promote creative freedom and quality and diversity in television.”
Chetwynd and Powell quit on principle after some of their colleagues in the caucus gave damning statements to Ben Shapiro for his new book, “Primetime Propaganda: The True Hollywood Story of How the Left Took Over Your TV.”
Read our original report on the book.
Listen to exclusive audio of Hollywood execs admitting bias.
Hear Glenn interview Ben Shapiro.
Powell, who once ran CBS Entertainment Productions, sent a statement to THR:
“Certainly the fact that our industry has a liberal bias is no surprise,” he said. “What is troubling is that now it seems discrimination is an acceptable practice to stifle divergent opinions. Speaking out against this is specifically on the Caucus Mission Statement. Our First Commitment is ‘promoting the artistic rights of the creative community,’ not solely the rights of the liberal creative community.”
Chetwynd, whose TV credits include “DC 9/11: Time of Crisis“ and ”Ike: Countdown to D-Day,” was much more scathing in his resignation. His was in the form of an open letter to the Caucus, and he targeted remarks made by Vin Di Bona, creator of “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” who admitted the TV industry is anti-conservative and that he’s happy about it:
“Mr. Shapiro interviewed a large number of our Hollywood notables on the subject of diversity — not the sacrosanct melange of race, religion, gender orientation and the like, but a more challenging diversity: that of opinion and policy,” he wrote. “The vast majority felt quite comfortable endorsing discrimination against those whose political philosophy was not rooted in the reflexive Leftism of Hollywood.”
Chetwynd, in fact, was instrumental in bringing prominent Republicans, like John Thune, Tom Ridge and Eric Cantor, to speak to the Caucus, invitations he now views as an “embarrassment.”
“I knew most of my fellow members looked upon the political positions of these people as distasteful; what I now understand is the disgust was not for their views, but for their very person,” Chetwynd wrote. “Such people, Mr. Shapiro’s sources make clear, must be silenced and it is therefore proper to make them suffer discrimination.”
Of Di Bona and others who were caught on tape tolerating political discrimination in Hollywood, Chetwynd writes: “Shame on all of them. Their sickness is an infection that belongs in Europe of the 1930s.”
Chetwynd acknowledges that he has spoken to Di Bona, whom he refers to as “a Caucus leader,” and has forgiven his remarks, but it didn’t alter his decision to leave the group.
“Until now, the Hollywood culture kept mean-spirited and odious persecution carefully discussed out of earshot of we lepers; now, however, there appears to be no problem in openly admitting to cheap and easy prejudice,” Chetwynd writes.
[...]
“If the Hollywood Left has no compunction in publicly proclaiming its creed,” writes Chetwynd, “then for the sake of those Americans who have a different vision for our country, someone must shout, ‘Stop!’”
[...]“As I believe you’re aware,” he writes to his former Caucus colleagues, “I experienced overt blacklisting for my views as a
conservative — at the very hands of those who piously deplore the blacklisting of Communists in a former day.”
Near the end, THR notes, he writes, “I no longer belong in your midst. I shall miss you all.”

Many view California as akin to the Titanic, at the point in it’s sinking where only the stern section was above water, and at an extreme downward angle.
They view your pleas as passengers would a crewman on the Titanic demanding at that point that they all start hand-bailing with buckets to save the ship, rather than getting to a lifeboat.

Likewise, smart people in Hollywood tend to not want to work with rabid “conservatives” [like the bunch who recently lost about $12 million producing "Atlas Shrugged"] – is that a surprise!

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 2:19pmHow Roger Ailes Built the Fox News Fear Factory
The onetime Nixon operative has created the most profitable propaganda machine in history. Inside America’s Unfair and Imbalanced Network
[excerpt:]
Rounding out his senior news team, Ailes tapped trusted Republicans like veteran ABC correspondent Brit Hume and former George H.W. Bush speechwriter Tony Snow.
Ailes then embarked on a purge of existing staffers at Fox News. “There was a litmus test,” recalled Joe Peyronnin, whom Ailes displaced as head of the network. “He was going to figure out who was liberal or conservative when he came in, and try to get rid of the liberals.” When Ailes suspected a journalist wasn’t far enough to the right for his tastes, he’d spring an accusation: “Why are you a liberal?” If staffers had worked at one of the major news networks, Ailes would force them to defend working at a place like CBS – which he spat out as “the Communist Broadcast System.” To replace the veterans he fired, Ailes brought in droves of inexperienced up-and-comers – enabling him to weave his own political biases into the network’s DNA.

First, you disregard the NUMEROUS liberals that work on Fox news as commentators (ex-Clinton/Carter administration cronies, NPR contributors, and former Air America hacks). Second, this idea that there cannot possibly be ONE SINGLE conservative news outlet to counter 60 years of a Progressive monopoly on the ENTIRE industry.
Guerrino and Cpt.foolish……..Just two more Progressives who absolutely detest free speech and opposing views. Go pound sand and enjoy your frustration, that after 60 years of propaganda and an iron fisted control over the ENTIRE American media, that this country is STILL a center-right nation.

Leland Vittert, Shepherd Smith, Julie Banderas, Greg Burke, Greta Van Sustren, Alan Colmes, etc etc etc. Again, a journalist can report on a story how they see fit (applying their own slant), but the editorial decisions of what stories are covered, are made by a Conservative, Brit Hume. There is NO discrimination there. However, at the other “news” organizations, their is rampant discrimination along ideological lines. Fox picks up many of these reporters, contributors, and journalists who are discriminated against (many of which are Progressive, but made the mistake of questioning your messiah or a particuliar aspect of your bent ideology).
You have yet to address any of the Progressive hypocrisy that I have pointed out spewing forth from you and your beloved Leftist media. Why do you fear free speech or differing opinions, so? What’s wrong with an opposition network, especially when Progressives have had a 60 year monopoly on the industry (it’s only one network, after all)?
Not only do you need to study history more, you also need to learn the definiton of Propaganda, and the difference between journalists and editors. I always thought you Progressives question authority at every turn, I guess that’s not true. You devour your propaganda joyfully, all the while obeying obediently, like a good little boy.
I would quit now, and cease making yourself look even more foolish and infantile.

January 2013
One sunny day in January, 2013 an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue. He spoke to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said, “I would like to go in and meet with President Obama.”
The Marine looked at the man and said, “Sir, Mr. Obama is no longer president and no longer resides here.”
The old man said, “Okay”, and walked away.
The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, “I would like to go in and meet with President Obama.”
The Marine again told the man, “Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Obama is no longer president and no longer resides here.”
The man thanked him and, again, just walked away.
The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same U.S. Marine, saying “I would like to go in and meet with President Obama.”
The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, “Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Obama. I’ve told you already that Mr. Obama is no longer the president and no longer resides here. Don’t you understand?”
The old man looked at the Marine and said, “Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it.”
The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, “See you tomorrow, Sir.”

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 1:10pmMay I suggest these two fine gentlemen, go out and start their own production company, built from the ground up for web production and broadcast? That is clearly the future after all. This is a perfect opportunity to seize upon! The honest people in the business would flock to it as web streaming chokes the life out of cable and satellite television subscriptions.

We have seen two movies in the past 26 months and we made sure it was a Conservative message, author or something of the sort. Only buy used Dvd’s from friends or trade..I will give my money to people that do good and don’t mislead kids.

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 1:21pmArtists and other creative types wish for a world that doesn’t exist (without a lot of effort) without the discipline of work. They tend to be very immature. In the way they think. In the way they plan their productions (which is why business people needed to come in and took over the planning for most film projects/handing the finances) . They are dreamers without the discipline of work. Many of them come to Hollywood with no college, no trade school, just their bodies/looks. LA is a brutal town. Everyone has an agenda. Everyone has their own project. It’s not like Nashville where everyone wants to win for themselves but has enough sense to know that those they help will some day help them too. So we have ambitious, uneducated, self-centered, immature. Then we have the prep school cuties and bratty sons who are farmed out to Hollywood by Daddy who pays their expenses to let Hollywood “baby-sit” for these ‘hot shots’. VERY few in Hollywood care about creating the next great movie ; writing the next great script. It’s all about money; status; who you know. Writers don’t allow youngsters with great scripts to get a foot-hold (neither do the major Agents). What’s funny is that the video games now take in about 100 times what the movies take in business-wise. This is not everyone…this is not the crews who have seen it all, work hard and for the most part, are Conservative…I’m talking about the Tabloid Freaks. I know. I’m part of it and have be

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 1:22pmGood for them! I for one have quit going to the movies (physically not enjoyable) so they are not getting my money there. I‘m sure there are many more people that have just stayed home instead and Hollywood is feeling the ’pinch’. Time to turn in another direction fellows because I for one am looking to see movies that portray ‘the truth’, uphold morals, not afraid to show God is living! Let Hollywood fester in their own self made delusions of grandeur that have turned around and bitten them in the (bleep)!
Can‘t wait for the ’real’ show to begin!

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 1:45pmThe entertainment industry is no more than a propaganda arm of the radical, far left fringe in this country.
We quit going to theaters long ago, preferring to choose and pick DVD‘s after we’ve had a chance to get a full synopsis of their content.
Right now the entire entertainment industry depicts just EXACTLY the opposit of reality. How many movies are out there that portrays whites…especially white males….as evil and stupid, while blacks are depicted as stunningly brilliant scientists, lawyers, doctors and othe professionals, even though there is no such corresponding representation in the real world of any significance? It’s pretty obvious the makers of these distortions despise white America. It is hate at its finest.
How others can sit through such abysmal trash while they’re being lied about and insulted is beyond me. Truly they’re the products of mind control in one form or another.

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 3:48pmYou guys gotta be kidding me. The liberals/conservatives in Hollywood care only about one thing. The bottom line. If you make money with your films liberal or conservative you get hired back. If you don’t you get stuffed back on the “we’ll call you” list. The conservatives have been riding high on the Westerns of the 60‘s and 70’s. Any time they want some more credability they drag Clint Eastwood out and put him in a marginal Western to fill their pockets again. Now they have found Matt Damon as the next John Wayne/Eastwood character. The libs will fund these films just like the conservs. Neither of the sides have any scruples, only money..

The sad thing is, if you boycott these clueless naifs, they will scream that you are trying to stifle their freedom of expression–even though they have no qualms about trying to stifle yours. They behave like a bunch of spoiled children–and have just about as much perception about the real world as a kumquat.
I’ve always thought it was proper to keep politics and entertainment separated, and tried to take the view that their ultra-liberal views were simply the result of being out of touch with reality and more than a little immature. But if they are gonig to insist on injecting leftist propaganda into everything they do, which has an effect on impressionable minds like the nation’s youth, then they should pay at the box office for their stupidity. Most probably consider themselves good people trying to do the right thing–but because they have influence and visibility, they are only doing more damage by influencing the uninformed to follow them down the clueless road to ruin.
