CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (The Blaze/AP) — The Marine Corps says two crew members have been killed in a helicopter crash in a training area at Camp Pendleton in Southern California.
A Marine statement says an AH-1 Cobra belonging to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing went down at about 1 p.m. Monday.
The statement says the two personnel aboard were pronounced dead by emergency responders.
A fire is burning at the site in the southeast corner of the base, near the community of Fallbrook, and firefighters are working to contain it.
This is a breaking story. Please check back for updates.

Posted on September 20, 2011 at 9:13amI used to watch them rain hell down on the VC in VietNam. It was a beautiful thing. Sorry for the loss. It would be nice to see them doing the same thing in arab land there instead of just sitting on the deck at air shows. thanks there king ovamit.

Posted on September 19, 2011 at 7:39pmThoughts and prayers go out to them, their families and all their fellow Marines. Seems like we have way too many of these accidents? at the different bases and with the military in places other then the war zones. Maybe it is just my imagination but seems like a lot. My heart breaks for our amazing heroes.

Posted on September 19, 2011 at 6:49pmGreetings, been a long time, but have to comment to this. First, my condolences to all, affected by this accident.
More details required, was it a ‘twin’ blade cobra? They are tough to control especially in adverse windy weather. The quad blade is way more stable, but not 100% like the Longbow…… A sad day.
Comfort – Cherish.
