It sure is easy to go after the “old people” when the issue of medical costs comes up. Wonder why the same attack-mentality is not applied to the BILLIONS of gov’t dollars for “healthcare” wasted on crack addicts, illegal immigrants, impoverished having babies they can’t afford, etc, etc.

Bill, so then saving how many crackheads = firing how many teachers?

Beautiful ALL4114ALL…. but then again, they’ll say your argument is so “unintelligent” becuae they are sooooo much smater than us “small” people… we just don’t understand…

Probably just the medical care for illegal immagrants alone would pay for ALL the teachers and ALL their bloated pensions that they feel so “entitled” to.

Welcome to the progressive club where you can tell everyone else where there money and life needs to go, of course, only after you like the rest in the club made their millions.in the small government free market enterprise.

Who is to say whether or not that old person may do something miraculous for the world in their last days. Ordinary people often do amazing things. This is no one’s decision but God.

It’s a matter of loving the almighty dollar more than your fellow man. Besides, there are some teachers that aren’t good enough to kill your dog for.

I just thought about those teachers who were sitting in limbo and getting paid for it. Do we want our elderly to suffer for them? I don’t think so. It’s just not up to us to decide who is valuable and who is not.

I think we need to decide on where we stand on the matter of the Individual or the Collective. Is the Individual more important or is the Collective more important.
I might choose to give up my own life for the good of the Collective (Society, or whatever group), but I don’t want someone else, like the government, making that decision for me. It should be my free choice.

He forgot to mention that PUPPIES WILL DIE! Yes PUPPIES WILL DIE if we don’t let old people, and sick children with cancer, and sick parents with cancer, and sick Dad’s with heart disease, and sick Grandma’s and sick Grandpa’s die. We need to let them all die! Or teachers will be fired and PUPPIES KILLED! There is definitely no other answer- NONE- what is wrong with you people suggesting we lower costs or look for waste in the system? Bill Gates is a BRILLIANT man and you must realize he is right. It is teachers and puppies versus sick kids, moms, dads, grandpas, and grandmas. If Bill Gates say’s it is so, it must be so.

“THE MAN IS BRINGING UP an argument.”
The same one that Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin brought up during the Public Health Care Insurance debate, and still bring up today. So where are you going with this?

“IT IS something legitimate to discuss,”
And yet you keep shutting down “Right-Wingers” for asking that VERY SAME question.

“but INSTEAD the RIGHT WINGERs SCREAM DEATH PANEL and scare people.”
Uhm, Billy Gates just used Death Pannels. OH NOES! IS HE A RITE WIGNER TOO?! (I meant Wigner, no spelling error there.)

“THIS IS BECAUSE THE GOP>TEA PARTY AND RIGHT WING are incapable of intelligent discussion.”
…Right, so we bring up the issues months before, and during the debate in Washington, we continue to bring it up (and many others) but it’s moronic ninny dribble until someone like Bill Gates brings it up?
Further more, I try an have discussions with you, I won’t use intelligent because I don’t believe pond-scum has brainwave activity, but none the less I try; yet you fire back with insults and question my patriotism, so I fire right back with. Just to show you what being a pretentious ass gets you!

Tomburpee: There were many indepth, thoughtful and intelligent pieces written on the topic of end of life care, it’s costs and “death panels”. If we found them on the internet, I’m sure you could as well.
I don’t recall the left wing being “shut down” anywhere.
As for Mr. Gates, his argument between old people’s healthcare and teachers seems to be a kind of “apples and oranges” thing regarding money.

Exactly, It is better to pull the plug on old people than to pull the plug on unions who are sucking the life out of this country. If there was no Obamacare, we could make our own decision instead of some buerocratic panel telling us when we have lived long enough. Of course we trust the government to make so many other wonderful decisions for us and look where that got us.

They have families and lives. As smart as you are, you are an idiot…you lack common sense. Perhaps if you thought for a moment, you would realize that it shouldn’t cost a million dollars to stay alive for three months. Instead of having to “allocate” that money to “teachers” how about ideas to bring costs down. Gov’t regulation is what brought the costs up to begin with..now those same people are the ones saying we have to have death panels. Stop regulation, bring costs down, save grandma and the teachers…common sense.

Of course he’ll have the finest medical care known to man with access to all the latest treatments. The hypocracy is staggering. Here we have arguably the most successfull capitalist of the last century whom advocates a socialist system for everyone else when he knows he’ll have a platoon of the best and brightest private doctors at his beck and call. I also love how he targets the argument on old people. How about looking at some real burdens to the system. How about the fat @$$es eating doritos and twinkies 5 meals a day while they sit on the couch and smoke cigerettes? No it’s just fine when they develope diabetes the tax payers will subsidize thier miserable existence. Wow here’s a revolutionary idea lets go to a real 100% free market system without any stupid mandates that are the real cause of excalating costs. That way you can pay for coverage that suites your needs and nothing more. And if you’re a chain smoking fat @$$ sorry but your cost’s are going to be 10 times what mine are. Can’t afford it? Quite smoking, eat real food and get off the couch. For that matter disolve public school systems and let the private sector thrive. Failing schools will go out of business and test scores will skyrocket. But what does Gates care? He got his and all he gives a crap about is being the coolest progressive kid on the cocktail circuit.

Oh. And pension ‘generosity’. But let’s not focus on that. Let’s focus on the expensive medical treatments that might just work. Or that might, at least, give folks a little bit longer to be with their loved ones. I’ll bet if Bill was given the choice of whether to try an experimental procedure or a course of treatment to extend the life of a seriously ill family member vs. making another large charitable donation, he’d choose the family member. Or at least I hope he would.

The real issue is too much Government. How about we privatize healthcare and education so we do not need the Government to decide how to spend our tax dollars? The last thing I want is the Government deciding between my life and a teacher’s salary.

      Small Government is the answer.

Not the right to be uspet, just the opportunity to have a microphone and express his veiw. Give the same microphone to thousands of middle class folks and we all know the story will change.

My mother is dying from Pancreatic cancer. She has been fighting it for 3 years this December. She worked hard her whole life, EARNED her current health benefits by paying for them herself. She may well spend a million dollars in care her last three months but that is her right. Refusing her care and not spending the Insurance companies money, (a product she purchased) is NOT going to save any teacher there job.

I think the conclusion was implied:

Old, sick people use a lot of money.
Without this money , teachers will be laid off.
I don’t want teachers laid off (given a choice I will take the teachers rather than the old folks)
Therefore, I don’t want the old folks to get the money = “death” panel

Chapters 10 – 12, as for the importance of context, didn’t change anything. Gates mockingly referred to this sort of talk as “death panels”. He reinforced this opinion by stating there is a reluctance to examine “…huge medical costs, which have no benefit whatsoever.”

He did not state he wanted to trade ill people’s lives to save teachers’ jobs. He stated that there are some end of life medical procedures that are proven to have no live-saving or life-improving benefit and that those costs should be eradicated. He didn’t say that the medical costs that ARE beneficial should be done away with.

Debrabate, I too visited the link you provided and Gates did not say he wanted to see Death Panels, at least in the portions that were not totally blank, he didn’t say that. There were many “blank” spaces in the audio as well as the transcript so we really don’t know all he did say! And you’re probably right in stating that he likely doesn’t support Death Panels; however, the gist of the comparison he made between the teachers pensions and the medicare/medicaid payments to those who cannot contribute to society (my wording, not his) in their last 3 months of life was based on a monitary value. How can you equate life to a teacher’s pension? My question is why this article was even included for debate on The Blaze? There are far more important issues to discuss than what Bill Gates thinks about education!!!!

Debrabate, I too visited the link you provided for the “full” video. It wasn’t really a full video nor was the transcript a full one, for there were many blank spaces in both. So we truly don’t know all that Bill Gates said since both the video and transcript are incomplete. To me, the fact that he would compare monetarily a person’s life to the pension of a teacher is ludicrous! What I’m wondering is why this article was even posted to The Blaze. We have far more issues to discuss than Bill Gates’ opinion regarding education!!!

Lets have a discussion. Here are the differences on this issue.

The Democrats will dictate how to spend our tax dollars on all the people, no matter whether we agree with it or not.

The Republicans do not want the government involved in how to spend your tax dollars on the people. “Individual choice.”

This movement wants to restore our Country to self reliance. The whole entitlement system is a failure because we cannot pay enough taxes to cover the costs without destroying the economy. Those that have allowed themselves to become reliant upon entitlements has made themselves vulnerable. This is why We The People must not accept anything from the government. It is better to make the choices you need to make based upon your own individual financial position.

People do you want to be pushed in the water against your will or will you go ahead and jump in the water knowing the outcome. Do not go down with your hand out. Have some HONOR.

I would have discuss living wills and medical proxies to limit life support. For one, I will not be burning up precious teacher salaries to sustain my life. Besides, I would rather those millions be used for something more substantial then our failing school system. We have been pouring billions into them since the 60′s and it is only getting worse. Let’s take it to the next logical step. One of the the biggest costs on state’s is the unfunded retirement funds for the unionised state workers. It cost states as much as 3 trillion dollars. Think of how many teachers and other projects could be paid for if when state workers reached retirement age we just KILLED THEM. First though we could go to all of the retirement homes and KILL THEM. They are old and not productive. Then we can find all of the handicapped people, who are not productive, and KILL THEM.
Is this the type of world you want to live in? My cousins wife has a brain tumor and was told she has 6 months to live. That was over 3 years ago. Instead of growing larger, with chemo and other drugs it has grown smaller, even though that wasn’t supposed to happen, and hopefully it will continue to do so. If they had just said forget it, she would be dead. How about old age? You get old and they take away all of their medication and let them die. So much for the caring and loving liberals. They will “love” you to death.

Umm no. I love when stupidly wealthy people feel they have a right to tell the rest of us what’s right for us. I say fire the teacher, they’re not doing anything much better for the students than the guy with 3 months to live. Actually the way our kids are learning nowadays, they can be expected to live shorter lives due to underemployment and unhealthy lifestyles because they’re too stupid to receive gainful employment after leaving the government controlled schools. So maybe in a way the teachers are doing Obamacare a favor. Hmmmm.

If the Leftist government had consulted an obscure, ancient document that once had legal standing in this country (just to save you time on Google…it’s called the U.S. Constitution), they would have found that those powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution nor prohibited by it to the States shall be reserved to the States, respectively, or TO THE PEOPLE. (OK, technically Bill of Rights, but it is “Amended” to the Constitution)

Dangling Bags (Such an imaginative moniker!),
Of course it is a legitimate discussion. However, in case you missed it, the context of his claim is that those of us who disagree with him are the ones who won’t allow it to take place, just as you are claiming we are not capable of lucid participation in said discussion. Both tactics are transparent attempts to denude the opposition argument before it can be evaluated – a typical tactic, used when one’s own argument has little or no basis.
It is interesting to note that you use ad hominem attacks (name calling) and CAPS, a textual form of “screaming”, in an attempt to convince someone – anyone – that those who oppose your positions are dangerous and irrational, and that they should, therefore, be scared of us, while you accuse your imaginary opponents of the very same. It is a fascinating example of combining denial, displacement, projection and regression. You could be a case study for arrested intellectual development through pathological neuroses.
Now, if you would only stop your hysterical harangues long enough to hear what the other side actually has to say, you might learn something. But, alas, you will not. You are simply a mindless provocateur, not intelligent enough to form your own cogent position, but so full of anger you feel a need to interfere with the discussion at hand. So, be a good little rebel now and go play with your manifestos. The grownups have some issues to discuss …

That’s always what “progressives” say if you don’t agree with them…that you are unintelligent. LOL… Is it “intelligent” to spend money you don’t have? Is it intelligent to to say “if you can’t measure it, it doesn’t exist”? Is it intelligent to say, “Ok, now that yo have worked your **** off, sacrificed much of your life and family (perhaps), you must now give over what you have reaped to those who have not sown”? “You reap what you sow”, conservatives are ok with that truism, but progressives are NOT ok with it… LOGICALLY one has two conclusions… that progressives are either unwilling to sow (work) for what they want, or they are massively empathetic towards others… Well, if we give them the benefit of the doubt (which they never give us) we can say they are massively empathetic towards their fellow man…but what the data shows is that the reverse is true… they give MUCH less CHARITABLY than conservatives as a whole. Hmmm…so I guess it is a LOGICAL conclusion that they just don’t want to sow what they reap, they want to reap what others sow and further, they want to be in charge of both the reaping and sowing… Just move to China and join the communist party and you will have your dream life…Hopefully you won’t get too close to the peasants that get shot in the head for reading a bible or uploading photos of their miserable living conditions onto the internet…

With regard to Bill Gates sentiment… it is a totally rational argument if you take God out of the argument. I’m sure atheists think it’s brilliant. The problem is Evolution is a THEORY, not a fact. Any why are they so afraid of us teaching another THEORY (Creation) in schools and letting people make up their own minds? Hmmmm ??? Becuase it’s just not intelligent they say…h ha ha haha A little man, cursing his Creator, telling Him He doesn’t exist… how funny.

        Dittos to that…

        >> “…individual is diminished in favor of the collective.”

This is what is call “reality thinking” in Obama’s America. Obama’s declaration of war against the U.S. Constitutions is becoming a reality.

When Obama said, 5 days before his election, “… we are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America,” he meant that his vision for America is a transformation from and “individualist” constitutional republic into an “collectivist” commune democracy.

Bill Gates is no Cass Sunstein, but Gates seems to be “nudging” the conversation along as if he were on Obama czar.

Class war rhetoric is a societal good, ’cause it’s for the COMMON good and EVERYBODY wins, you see, in a democracy… especially those from whom the collective gets the most bang for the buck.

Shouldn’t the argument be based on why these treatments cost so much? Even in Mr. Gates world, things are very expensive when they first come out, but once the newness wears off…prices drop dramatically. Why is it that medical procedures on aging medical equipment still has the same costs or even higher costs than when they were cutting edge? Probably the same reason that an Aspirin cost up to $100 at any given hospital.

FORGETZ-ALOT, the medical cost so much reason is LAWYERS! Most medical professionals with a private practice pay almost 55% of their cost as Malpractice insurance. Hospitals have to pay for all of the Homeless and Illegals who come to the Emergency Room and use it as their primary care physician. Typical ER wait is 7 hours in most large metropolitan areas. The only way to get fast treatment in an ER is to arrive in an ambulance. Change the law to make the loser pay ALL cost associated with a lawsuit including both sides legal as well as court cost and you will see a lot of cost go down as frivolous suits will stop.

        Danglingbags:

We’ve been observing you for a while now . . . your demeanor, your ability to formulate and present logical strings of knowledge and information, to have a meaningful conversation that does something to bridge the gap between the differences that exist between left and right America.

But take notice, on the “right” there is a sincere desire to coexist with the left as it is the nature of the people that comprise the so called “right.” But also, we’re very much open to discussions and debates of ideologies and ethics and truths . . . but we will not forfeit the integrity of the process; we will insist that only honest debates take place. In other words, the foundation for the logic that liberalism is built upon will be called to the forefront as we expect you will want to do with the constructs of conservatism, of the Tea Party. You will have to openly explain your liberalism, in depth and show your intentions. You will have an opportunity to display your personal evolution, the evolution of the liberal mind and liberal mindset.

And because we understand what that means to the realities that liberalism creates and maintains by way of wide spread cultural conditionings, we understand why, in reality, you and your group will not actually debate or have meaningful conversations. Your call to do this is a feigning at best. It is clear, liberals believe there is no coexisting with the right; and never mind the “radical right wing” that you so infamously profess to know of, the group that doesn’t really exist in any magnitude; but we should and will talk about that, for nothing else but to debunk the myth, the fabricated reality, the cultural conditioning.

But you have to be honest; it’s the least you can do to cultivate a measure of credibility for yourself and the group that you represent. There is no indication whatsoever coming from the left that there is any interest in coexisting with what you perceive as being the right, or too much of the right; there is only talk of isolation and elimination of the right.

Perhaps far too simplified, this notion was framed and made evident by the way in which GW first took office offering an olive branch to Democrats, to the left . . . But the left took that olive branch and beat it over his head for eight years in fits of liberal incoherent misdirected rages.

Consider for a moment that early on Bush in fact sought dialogue from the left despite facing great insult from the very beginning of his tenure; we fully remember no chance was given to him at all. And unlike Limbaugh stating that he wanted Obama’s brand of liberal government to fail, because it will, that sooner is preferred than later . . . as in avoiding a long slow death, that sort of thing, if you missed the point of it all. But it’s your people that actively sought ways and means to see to it that Bush failures were created, that they were fabricated in the media and widely broadcasted throughout the education system, to young America, society at large.

And then, let’s not forget that GW’s difficulties with the left began immediately. It was famously put on display by the way in which Clinton’s staff vacated the WH leaving the offices with sabotaged equipment and unfavorable conditions. For eight years GW turned the proverbial other cheek. And again, at the time of his vacating Washington, he extended another olive branch by conducting the turn over to the Obama administration in a most gracious and efficient manner, giving to Obama a presumption of respect and dignity many of us did not think he was worthy of simply because he represented all the left did during the Bush administration years. The left, Obama, they still carry on with these ill sentiments and activities that foster division to this day. Obama and the left, they can only feign respect for their predecessor(s) as they don’t have any, as you and your group have none for us here, or anywhere else as you make evident by the way in which you speak to us.

The bottom line is Danglingbags, and other liberals that are passing through here, it is fully recognized that the “left” is at war with America because the “left” has decided America is theirs for the taking. And because it’s not being attempted with guns or bombs doesn’t mean that the seriousness of your offenses are not real.

The Tea Party and conservatives, Danglingbags, are simply awake to your dealings. We have been watching you.

Notice how easy it is for someone who has the money to take his loved ones anywhere in the world and pay for treatment for them to tell those of us who can’t that we should put our relatives down like animals so we can give more money to an inner city school where it won’t mean anything anyway.

Looks like Sarah was right. The Progressive’s like Bill Gates can hardly wait to start decieding who should live or die.

He has the money to pasy the teachers himself but he never will as long as he and other Progressives have access to taxpayers money to waste in their plans to make America into a Socialist utopia.

If this is not a clip taken out of context, and Bill Gates is truely suggesting ( as it apperars by this clip ) that society should choose to appoint a “death panel” of such, in order to determine who should live or should die…….then I hope that I live to see the day that his name is added to the list ( that appears on that popular email that goes around & that most of us have probably viewed one more than once) of those celebrities who chose to publically mock God and then die shortly afterwards. Bill obviously doesn’t know what he is really saying, and he is too “worldly-brilliant= foolish ” , to see just what kind of a slippery slope those dangerous suggestions that he makes place everyone including himself on. It appears as though he has become his own God, and he like all of the others will be the demise of his own foolishness……..he needs much prayer!

What is a shame is the doublespeak and nonsense that dribbles out of progressive mouths like yours ProLoveA. Your name alone is an example of the “opposite jargon” progressives use to try and make themselves seem positive. Progressives love the America where they would make the decisions for everyone else because they “know better”.

Removing people’s freedom of choice and equality of opportunity to “fix” the health care problem will only cause it to get worse. But you keep on dribbling your bull, I’m sure all of us here will be converted to your views which seem very similar to something a victim of brain damage might think.

Progresivelovesamerican is correct about the fact that we have death panels in the insurance companys as of late. The problem now exist that the death panel will be transfered from them to the government. This is going to work out great for grandma. We cant fire them or move our our policy somewhere else. We will be stuck and I hope you like your fixed one insurance company. You will not be happy.
