Posted on September 30, 2010 at 10:12amMr. Floyd bemoans the fact that his members have sacrificed so much, but does he think about where his public sector’s members salaries are coming from? Does he not think it ironic or hypocritical that his members earn. on average, twice what an employee in the private sector makes and then has to pay taxes to pay Mr. Floyd’s members. Is it not ironic that he bemoans the state of the American worker, but he is the International VP?! As to the “have to, want to” question about attendance at the rally, the big difference with the 8/28 rally is that individual Americans paid for their trip out of their own pockets, not from the union slush fund!

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 10:11amA bunch of self entitled jerks. They should break all the unions and start over with more reasonable leadership. Im tired of fat-cat union bosses making 6 figure salaries demanding that the tax payers foot the bill for entitlement programs that are billions of dollars in the hole. How about my retirement? I dont see them marching for the state to pay me what im “entitled” too. When did these people become a higher class of citizen?

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 10:23amIf they cause a stir – they will be blackballed from jobs. If they are now working…they wouldn’t be for long. Where do you suggest they go to get a job….the unemployment line with everyone else? It isn’t as simple as you think. These men and women have to feed their families and pay the bills like everyone else. What do rallies really matter?? They can ship in every American….it still doesn’t change what happens behind the voting booth curtain.

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 11:02amGee, Heidi–wait until the strikes in 2011. How many of these families can afford to go on strike? There are choices to make in life and choices have consequences. To me, joining a union is like trading freedom for security.

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 11:08amdon’t ASSUME ANYTHING.. You did notice there are NO JOBS didn’t you?? so those who would speak out will lose their jobs they are ALREADY basically owned.. the ONLY way they can speak out is in NOVEMBER . I know it seems easy to say they should just take the job loss or another job for less money but realize this many have other family members who lost their jobs and they are helping them out too.. right now the unions aren’t the only ones in this situation many private sector workers have the same thing in their lives..the unions aren’t the only ones with leadership that is PROGRESSIVE..

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 11:33amWaiting4George – I’m sorry, but many of us who are union families are no different then you and yours. My husband is up at 3:30am to travel 3 1/2 hrs, one way, to work; so he can keep food on our table and pay our bills. This after being laid off for over 9 months. I have no idea what strikes in 2011 your talking about…my husband has never taken part in a strike and never will. I will agree with you that everyone has choices to make in life and there are consequences – my household chooses to work…and pay our way. We will also choose to vote against any person that stands against the defense of the constitution and what it stands for – Dem. or Repub. The union has no control over how we vote; and that is the foundation of our country. I’d also like to point out – there are plenty of construction companies that are run by non-union liberal Dems. I’ll also add that picking and choosing your job right now….really not an option – there is hardly any work to be had. Sometimes you can’t just walk away….I don’t think losing our home and filing bankruptcy would solve the nations problems.

Most union people are hard working, loyal Americans. When attacking unions, one must rememebr we are by in large talking about the leaders who milk the system.

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 11:25pmFor all the UNION FOLKS here; Don’t worry about continuing to work in the Union jobs that you rely on. Those jobs are already doomed to extinction anyway, along with a hundred times as many Non Union ones. The Economy we have is based on nothing more than the “ILLUSION” of real wealth, and has been for a century+. All that has kept it going was blind faith by the masses in the Federal Reserve System and the Phony Dollars they have used to steal eveything that they could. Bottom line, your Gig is about up one way or another, PONZI SCHEMES have alway failed under their own weight throughout history. Point of fact, just in the last few weeks, the new “Smart Move” has been to get into Gold, but to SELL IT SHORT now, instead of buying into the continued up “Bubble” it’s been building. This weekend’s Communist Extranzagava may well be the “Tipping Point”, and if not then certainly the Election will be. So enjoy as many “Paychecks” as you can get between now and the final collapse of the dollar. After that happens, If you can’t grow your own food, well a Paycheck will certainly be the last thing on your mind.

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 10:10amThis is exactly what’s so wrong in our country. The unions think the remainder of America should work to support them and their excessive salaries and benefits. It has to stop and stop now while any of us still have a job. Sorry but non-union workers should not have to support union workers who make double what the rest of us do.

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 10:08amExactly. Its all about choice, and the freedom to choose which events to participate in. The left wants to govern and dictate in every area of our lives and it’s a classic case of the blind leading the blind. No matter what they say or do at this rally, just know that they can only be successful if we stop fighting and standing up against them.

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 11:35amI am an SEIU member by default. I would rather not. When I told my employer I don’t want to join for conscientious reasons. I was told that I had a choice but the choice was to work somewhere else. It is few and very far between to find an employer in my line of work that is not unionized. I have attempted to divert a portion of my dues to something other than the union but have run into roadblocks. If someone knows the way to divert dues in Washington state, I’d like to know.
I assume that some in the crowd this w/e will have “Stop the Hate” signs. I just hope that Andrew Breitbart is there to interview them.

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 11:45amSBISH: I can only speak about the construction Union trade that we are involved with. What happens is a company/business joins the union. When a person is employed by the company they must become a union member in order to work…with that membership you gain health insurance, retirement, further education to keep up with trade advancements and employee protection from unfair employment practices (such as overtime, breaks etc.) A union member must pay dues in order to work on the job site…people come around and make sure you have your up to date due card with you on the job. Dues are paid to the local and the national level. Local dues are usually kept local to run the hall, hold classes and pay bills….it is the national dues that go to crap like this rally. One does have a choice in the beginning on taking the job or not….and in a better employee atmosphere one could quit and start their own company or go to work for a non union shop….at this point and time…hands are tied. It is sink or swim time.

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 10:30amI fear we are going to have to resort to the RICO statutes to loose the hold of these corrupt unions on our free market and local governments. I think we ought to. If the unions in this country, particularly the seiu and the teacher’s union, do not completely fall under the term: Racketeering, Influence and Corrupt Organizations, will someone PLEASE explain to me what possible difference there is between the union’s management and the mafia? I am a very well-educated human being with a great command of the English language, and I can’t see where they are any different, except that the government is a great friend of the unions, whereas they detested the mafia. I don’t understand, because the mafia was probably willing to pay MUCH more money to the government than the unions for the privilege of “doing business.” Is there some reason why the honest, hard-working members of the unions who are forced to join in order to provide for their families can’t rise up and urge federal prosecutors to charge the union management under RICO? I have been researching that for some time, and I can’t see why not. What say you union workers who are good Americans who hate what your union management has done to the American workers start asking the district attorneys where you are to look into it? You could purge your unions of corruption and hold you new leaders to a high standard, just like the rest of America is doing in November. The unions are responsible for at least as much unemployment as Obama’s policies. The unions destroyed the steel industry in Pittsburgh. I know, I lived through it. Demolibersocialcommies will argue that point loudly like the buffoons they are, but I was there during the entire thing, I had many family members who were steel workers and I know very well that the unions were responsible. Who among the union workers is willing to make a stand and demand that your management be purged of corruption? Unions don’t have to be a bad thing. They could go back to their original purpose and protect their workers from poor working conditions and inadequate wages, instead of concentrating on milking John Q. Public for every drop of blood they can get.

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 3:59pmThank you, Federalist! I honestly have been researching that for some time, and if you got enough members to make the unions understand that there’s too many of you to retaliate against, and you had actual information of crimes under RICO being committed, why wouldn’t a prosecutor take up the cause? There are ways of forcing them to if they are reluctant and there is evidence. Keep the faith, all!

I am pretty “anti-union” and have been all of my life, but I’m not anti-American and know the rank and file are good hard working American people that just want to live their lives, love their families and enjoy the freedom that IS this country. Every group has their trash, just be sure to keep your distance because you cannot play in the trash and not get any on you. Honor first, and the rest takes care of itself.

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 11:35amI too, belong to the National Air Traffic Controllers Union because the management at the FAA doesn’t care about labor laws or fairness. Right now I am fighting them to cover my medical bills for an on the job injury that they claimed didn’t happen to the worker’s compensation board, while at the same time they are trying to permanently medically disqualify me from being an air traffic controller because of the same injury! However, when I heard that they joined up with AFL-CIO affiliations, I was deeply disappointed. I have seen much more political pressure and activities over the last two years. I guess I am damned if I stay and damned if I quit.

Unions have outlived their usefulness and they could more accurately be called PACs or enforcement arms for the Demoncat Party. I call them the destroyers of the U.S.A., a country that I happen to love and want to save.

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 5:55pmMy wife has just recently joined a Union because she had to in order to work there (she didn’t have the seniority to be grandfathered in. And the Union is doing little more than collecting the dues. It’s aggravating, but in her case, the union was warranted. they weren’t getting fair pay or benefits in relation to the rest of the industry in the area. Their contract right now is worthless, but renegotiation are in progress so hopefully, things will turn around.
I think rarely in these days is a union needed, but sometimes it is. for example, if one managed to get into Wal-mart, i would support it because they treat their employees as sub-par at best most of the time. I know first hand. And actually I recall there being only 2 Wal-marts that are unionized and i think they are both in Canada.
Anyway, I hope that more union members stand up for their choice in the matter and deny going on the grounds that they are Required to go.

My mother and father worked for Dupont MANY years ago and they went union and at one point the union BOSS told the rank and file that they HAD TO attend a rally-like gathering. My parents didn’t believe in what the gathering was standing for, so they didn’t go. They were harrassed for several weeks by their “brothers and sisters” in the union. They later said that they “got off easier than others that failed to attend”. I have no idea what that meant, but it scared the crap outta me.
Still does.

Most union members are honest and hard working men and women who want nothing more than fair wages and benefits for their labor. They are not politicians. There is no place today for “Jimmy Hoffas” and “Walter Reuthers” and other thugs like them that once dominated the labor unions.

I would love to hear one of Obama’s “backyarder’s” ask him directly if he believes that unions are or are not considered a “special interest” group in his opinion. The LEFT is steering this Country towards a serious clash between classes. The future of our Country is at stake right here and right now. Conservatives need to come out en masse this Nov and in 2012. We need to break all voting percentage records to link up arm and arm against the scocialists. Posted on September 30, 2010 at 12:53pmthe propaganda system is designed, has been for years, to demonize unions, which makes a lot of sense. Unions are a democratizing force in which the mass- one of the few ways in which the large mass of the population can pool limited resources and work together for some common good. So that’s that bad thing: democracy. So naturally you want to demonize and destroy unions, and that’s been going on forever.
And the other leading propaganda theme – and I don’t mean by that, you know, like, just what you hear in the newspapers- read in the newspapers and so on, like the entertainment industry and television and everything else – is anti-politics. Meaning, setting up a picture — it’s called anti-politics — the picture — but a very specific kind of anti-politics — you have to establish the image, you know, get into people’s heads, that the Government is the enemy- the Federal Government. State Governments are okay, because they can be sort of controlled by business anyway, so it doesn’t matter. But the Federal Government is sometimes a little too big to be pushed around, so it’s the enemy.
And it cannot be, nobody can dream of the possibility, that the Government is of, by, and for the people. That’s impossible. It’s an enemy to be hated and feared.
Not that there aren’t a lot of things wrong with it, but that’s not — what’s wrong with it, from their point of view, is it has a big defect: it’s potentially influenceable by the population, and big enough to stand up against private power. And that’s the defect.
So, you have to regard it as the enemy. It cannot be of, by, and for the people. It’s a kind of a, Them versus Us business. “Them” is the Government which is the enemy. “Us” is all of us nice people, you know, sober working man, his loyal wife — maybe, extra job these days — the hard-working executive toiling twenty hours a day, you know, for the benefit of all, the friendly banker who’s out there trying to find — to give you money. That’s “Us.” And then there’s “Them.” “Them” is the outsiders, the un-Americans, you know, the agitators, the union organizers, big government, and so on. And it’s sort of, Us versus Them. That’s the picture.
That has been rammed into people’s heads for at least fifty or sixty years by intensive propaganda everywhere. Movies, television, textbooks — just constant.

Why do people like you think that you can simply shrug off opposing views by making lame attempts at impuning the motives of those that hold them? You can sell stuff like that to union members, they’re the ones that are stupid enough to be led around by the nose and allow their well being to be used as a bargaining chip for the union royalty. I just watched the documentary about DeLorean last night…perfect example. They are ramping up the factory for production. They just hired all their workers. As soon as they’re hired they have a meeting saying they were recruiting them into the unions, and told them it’s their choice but they wouldn’t be allowed to work there if they didn’t join. Then the next scene is the union chief telling a group of workers that the company offered them 6.98% annual salary increases. Without even a single word of discussion he tells the workers that he went ahead and told them that he was declining the offer and he needed someone to propose the motion to decline it and someone to second it so that he could do it officially. That is not the union working on behalf of it’s members, it’s a union using it’s members as bargaining chips.
People have good reason for not liking unions. At one time unions were a good thing, even necessary. But they are obsolete now. They are no longer serving the public good, at least in civilized nations with established economies and fair labor practice laws. They hold businesses hostage with unreasonable demands, and they have become nothing more than a quid pro quo partner for politicians. Votes for money.
