Murkowski Camp Claims Endorsement of Late AK Sen. Ted Stevens
During her unsuccessful primary election battle for the Republican nomination, Alaska’s Sen. Lisa Murkowski received an endorsement from former Sen. Ted Stevens just days before the Senator passed away. Murkowski went on to lose that battle to tea party favorite Joe Miller, but that hasn’t slowed down her re-election campaign as she now fights to maintain her seat as an Independent, and polls show the two candidates in a tight race.
But with the primary election in the past, Sen. Murkowski has pulled out the old message from the late Sen. Stevens, claiming it as an endorsement for her current candidacy. Would Stevens have supported Murkowski’s Independent bid for re-election, or would he have supported the GOP nominee, Joe Miller? No one can say for sure, but this controversy isn’t stopping Murkowski and the Stevens family from using the late senator’s name to support her:
What do you think — is it appropriate for Murkowski to use the primary election ad for her general election campaign?

Posted on October 16, 2010 at 1:24amI find this so very sad, I always loved Uncle Ted, I believed he did the best for Alaska. And he did, but at what cost. There was a time for his type of politics, the money game. No one was better at it than Uncle Ted. We benefitted greatly from it. But now, our nation is at risk, our very survival. We cannot do this anymore. To all who watched the Memorial to our Senator Ted Stevens, remember what Vice President Biden said in Eulogy…”often Teds colleagues would come up to him in the hallways after a vote and say, how can you vote this way when it endangers our National Security? And Ted Stevens would reply, What is good for Alaska is good for the Nation. My question is…IS THIS REALLY TRUE?

Posted on October 16, 2010 at 1:12amThis is tacky but not nearly as bad as back in 2002 when the DFL in Minnesota turned Paul Wellstone’s funeral into a democrat rally. Of course Stuart Smiley holds that seat now. Don’t know if Wellstone endorsed him but I’m positive he voted for him.

Posted on October 16, 2010 at 1:11amShe’s running campaign ads from SIX years ago, when she was running for election for the first time after daddy appointed her Senator. Stevens would have supported the Alaska Republican Party’s nominee, Joe Miller. This is a disgusting ploy by a petty women throwing a tantrum.

Posted on October 15, 2010 at 11:52pmTypical progressive tactic, make a statement that you can’t disprove. Sure, I was endorsed by Sen. Stevens, just like if we hadn’t done stimulus, etc., it would be much worse. As one who travels to DC, I can say, they don’t pass out the mind altering drugs at the airport, nor when you visit a government building, so I’m trying to figure out where they get them to make these types of statements with a straight face.

Posted on October 16, 2010 at 1:00amAgree with you Red Penny, people running for a seat do not have a right TO the seat; they have a means to WIN or LOSE the seat. The people make the choice to vote them in or not – or for those canidates running for a second or tenth time (depending on the case) to keep them or send them out to early retirement.

Posted on October 16, 2010 at 7:13amLet’s see, we have a write-in candidate being endorsed by a former senator that was killed in a plane crash just before the PRIMARY ELECTION. Did Ms. Murkowski consult her CRYSTAL BALL to find out if Mr. Stevens continued to support her candidacy??? Maybe he really didn’t support her. Maybe someone should do what THE PEOPLE told her they wanted, when they FAILED to ELECT HER to run in the mid-term election. Talk about people that can’t take no for an answer………!!!
