US Airways Flight Makes ‘Unscheduled’ Landing After Small Dog’s Biting Rampage

A small dog caused a very large ruckus on one USAirways flight which took off from Newark Monday morning, bound for Phoenix, Ariz.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, one passenger’s tiny dog managed to get loose and bit two people before the plane could make an emergency landing at Pittsburgh International Airport. The dog was on board flight 522 which carried 122 passengers and bit a flight attendant and one other passenger.

USAirways later said the passenger with the dog was supposed to keep it in its cage under her seat, but she took it out and the animal ran loose. Although the dog is small and the injuries were minor, the Post-Gazette reports, the captain felt it was best to divert the plane.

The few ruin it for the many. Pretty soon, no one will be allowed to travel with their pooch like that. Leave your frickin’ dog in the carrier, for crying out loud. I can’t understand some people… must have been a lib.

The dog was sedated & managed to chew his way out of his carrier. The owner was 89 years old & the people on the plane were not upset. Glad no-one was seriously hurt. Doo Doo happens.

To some of us, our dogs are our family and while I’ve never flown with any of my daschcunds I’d rather be on a plane with them than the bunch of unruly kids that parents can’t or won’t control. Yes that’s happened to me. I think the pilot overreacted by diverting the plane but I’m glad that the people on the flight kept their cool and didn’t get angry. Yes they were inconvinieced but life doesn’t revolved around us. It’s good to know that there are still kind people out there that understand the embarrasement this poor lady went through when her dog got loose and was terrified. It’s the Christmas seasona. Peace on Earth and good will towards men.

I love dogs but would never take one aboard an aircraft.In this case the dog is probably smarter than it’s owner. A hugh over reaction to divert a flight over this,apparently,minor episode.

from the pic that is not smallof a dog. I am surprised that they allowed it on the plane. It was real stupid of the owner to take it out of the cage. No excuses.

  @Joseph Fawcett I am also surprised they allowed it on, but even more surprised that anyone would take a chance and allow out of cage, They should “fine” her and extrodinary amount, but probably will do nothing., By the was Joseph, I am extremely impressed with your art.I paint a little with oils, but your talent certainly excedes my meaget attempt.   I guess you either didnt pay attention or accually watch the whole video because it clearly showed the dog tore through the carrier it was in. no excuses. BTW I cant beleive they spent the time energy and money to land and retake off in a plane from that dog. Let it be and it will fix itself. LOL

  It was a Manchester Terrier. Bred to kill vermin. (wonder if it’s victims were liberals or democrats?) The toy variety of a MT gets to about 12 pounds. The standard variety can get as large as 22 pounds. A 22 pound dog is not what I consider “small”.
  
  I’d be willing to bet that this dog was not properly socialized. Plus, he was sedated and in a strange place. It was probably scared, and I wouldnt be surprised to find out that it’s ears were plugged from the cabin pressure and might have been in pain. The old lady should have followed the rules and not taken her dog out of his crate.
  
  Dogs should be socialized properly. Meaning that you do some basic obedience training with them and have them interact with other dogs in the training sessions so that they’ll learn how to properly behave with other dogs and with people. I used to have a really large dog (his name was Tiny) and he weighed about 110 pounds. (155 during his fat, lazy dog years) I had to socialize Tiny. He was too big for me not to have some sort of control over him. I also used to have a 12 pound poodle that was not socialized at all. He got mean as he got older and he was a biter. I still have scars on my hands from getting chomped on by him. Little dogs can do a lot of damage, especially since a person’s reaction to getting bit will be to pull away from the thing that’s biting them. Which makes the bite worse because then the teeth tear your skin.
  
  Tiny only ever bit me twice and that’s because I was stupid and got in between him and something tasty on the floor. (I wasnt able to say the “wait” command before he pounced. Too bad, that command was probably the best one I ever taught him.) If more people would properly train their dogs, then maybe we wouldnt have so many news stories about dog bites.

I have a friend that has a Dachshund named Ernie. That little rascal is like a hungry Piranha.
It ain’t much of a bite but he might nail you 4 or 5 times before you can get on a chair or something.
