‘It’s the Truth’: Producer Defends Pulled Kennedy Mini-Series

After the History Channel pulled his mini-series, “The Kennedys,” executive producer Michael Prupas insisted Wednesday that the eight-hour series was “meticulously researched” and is historically accurate.

“It’s the truth,” he said. “The goal of the script from the very beginning was to tell the family story of the Kennedys.”

The History Channel announced its decision after a leaked script was denounced by former Kennedy aide Theodore Sorensen as “vindictive” and “malicious.”

Rumors have also circulated that the Kennedy family was involved in pressuring the cable channel to drop the series, an effort led by the late president’s daughter, Caroline Kennedy with help from the wife of former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver, daughter of the late Eunice Kennedy.

The series — which will still air in international media markets — reportedly touches on JFK’s infidelities and strain in his marriage.

“There’s much written evidence of what went on in that family,” Prupas pointed out. “They truly were a great family that has a Shakespearian story arc that resulted in many tragedies and many great successes.” The producer insists it was more important to remain true to history than to protect the Kennedy clan’s legacy.

“It is a positive reflection – but we have shown the flaws,” he said.

With the History Channel’s cancellation, producers are now looking for a new media outlet to carry the series, masterminded by “24″ creator Joel Surnow.

i grew up in east boston and i hated the kenedy’s. everone portrayed them as royalty and could no no wrong. anything but the truth. the left has no problem with michael moores and al gores lies nut let the history channel which has mountains of more credibility than either tell some of the truth of the kenedy’s and they want to run them out of the country. its pathetic. kennedy’s father joe wa a bootlegger who made deals with the mafia but dont tell that. it does not fit the agenda. ted gets away with murder but lets forget that. the left is rushing towards what happened when hitler took power in germany. we seem to fail to learn from history. the kenedy’s are one of the reasons i left boston over 20 years ago for massachusetts is a democratic mafia run bu kerry and franks and markey and all through the state legislature as well as the school system. old folks who paid off their homes have lost tose homes because the taxes are so high their social security cant pay for it. the dummycrats their are pure evil and im being nice.

I haven’t watched the History channel for about 2 years now…I don’t trust anything they try to tell me (or my kids or grandkids). Their agenda has been obvious to me. Warn your families…for those who have ears to hear.

There are so many versions of this family’s story, a family that has experienced so many tragedies in such a very short period of time. Who knows how each of us is supposed to interpret everything individually. It’s really tragic, and the Kennedy’s continually get propped up as America’s royalty that never was.

The real truth is that this show will eventually be seen in spite of the Kennedy’s and Theodore Sorensen who might be jealous that he wasn’t able to write it or have a hand in changing the Kennedy family history to be more to the Kennedy’s liking.

  I am sorry but the History channel sucks! They had Cheryl wipe with on square Crowe and the black professor from the beer summit on telling re-written history. Like I am going to believe anything they say. Then they had this thing on there about the donnor family. And as soon as they said typical Americans I had to check their words. They said being typical Americans they killed these two indian guides. I looked it up and that was not true. They filled in the blanks.   hey Cheezwhiz the worst part of this story is the reason why they pulled the program off from airing, it didn’t meet their standards. The History Channel is a bias network and fears that camelot will not live for ever. That family was corrupt and remain so till this day, my opinion is if it tells the truth show it, and follow it up with Teddy’s life after that and show how much of a loser that man was as well. This will be available via cd, and I hope it shows in Canada seeing they’re working on a contract to air it there.

We dont need to be reminded of the drug use, alchohol abuse, infedelity, assualts, rapes and murders that occured within this family. We do not need to be aware of how they not only escaped judicial consequences but also were held up by the media as a great family to be admired by all. We should not reflect on the moral and spiritual caliber of these fine democrats.
