(Updated) Shocking Vid: Police Shoot Robber Using Human Shield

Dramatic video shows an alleged bank robber being taken down by police after slipping and falling on ice.

The incident happened at the Capital One Bank in Takoma Park, Md. around 9:00 a.m. on Friday.

Police had the bank surrounded when the alleged robber came out of the front door with what looked like a gun to the head of a female hostage.

As the robber made his way from the bank with the hostage he appeared to slip on ice that covered the parking lot after a Wednesday snow storm.

Police immediately moved in and fired shots at the alleged robber.

Video shows the suspect falling to the ground and police taking him away.

His condition is unknown at this time.

The hostage escaped uninjured.

UPDATE from the AP:

Police in Prince George’s County in the Washington suburbs said Friday three other people were injured. The suspect’s condition was not immediately known.

Police spokeswoman Lt. Tammy Sparkman said one civilian, who was not the suspect, was taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds and a police officer also was shot, possibly in the leg.

UPDATE:

The AP is now reporting the robbery suspect has died as a result of his wounds. The wounds of the other injured victims were not life-threatening.

The First cop mearest to the robber should have caqpped him right when the woman ran, or at least clothes lined him on his way by.

The Head shot would have been the cheapest……….Where were the snipers in this “Hostage” Situation?

  Proper placement for a sniper with a weapon on a human sheild, would have been a brain stem……Problem is it always goes right through, snipers use rather potent calibers. Downrange makes that a no-go. I agree though,a sniper could have ended that sooner.

I don’t think that all police should shoot first and ask questions later, but when the guy has a gun to an innocent’s head, he’s guilty and needs to be taken out. Think about how much $ they saved the taxpayers. I would rather they spend $1.00 on a .45 slug, than house and feed people like this for years.
I truly believe in “Innocent until proven guilty”, but when you walk out of a building with a hostage or a house carrying my television, then you’re guilty.
The BEST way to NEVER BE SHOT BY A POLICE OFFICER, is to NEVER BE IN THIS KIND OF SITUATION!
Don’t be a criminal and you will (probably) never be shot by a cop.

  Your advice for not being shot by cops is spot on. I hope the cops here don’t get persecuted by the usual criminal sympathizers, but nothing surprises me any more. We hire cops to protect us, then they get in trouble when they do.

  Yeah, I don’t need to see it either, but it is morbidly fascinating. I guess when I read “Video shows the suspect falling to the ground and police taking him away.” in the accompanying text, I expected to see that. Even my crappy local news channel’s website isn’t that inaccurate with it’s reporting (and it is bad).

  UPDATE: Democratic Senators on Capitol Hill have proposed legislation banning winter storms, that potentially create unsafe footing. One Senator proclaims: ” This violence has got to end – had ice not been present, this man would not have been shot by authoriitites.” Further legislation is expected next week to outlaw the use of firearms by police.

  I’ve created a Task Force that will be charged with understanding what lead the victim, who was apparently trying to withdraw money from the bank, to be shot by the stupidly acting police. They will also try to determine why there was an uncivil white woman evading police and fleeing the scene.

  I’ll never forget reading back in the 1970′s when airliner hijacking first became ‘popular’, that the Saudi’s stormed a plane that had been hijacked and was being refueled. They captured the hijackers alive. All the pasengers were then removed from the plane except the hijackers. The Saudi police wrapped towels around the throats of the hijackers and slit their throats right there in their seats. They never got off the plane alive. I don’t remember anyone howling about their rights being violated… I remember admiring the Saudis for that.
  
  AS long as this hostage taker had a gun in his hand, he was a threat to everyone around him. If he didn’t want to get shot all he had to do was toss the gun away and lie down. Had he done so, we the taxpayers would pay a million-dollar tab for his trial and another million to incarcerate him alive… That is something a lot of posters here feel is a bad ‘investment’ (to use B.O.’s favorite term), but we’d do it anyway to honor our constitution.
  
  Yes, our constitution guarantees the right to a fair trial because we’d rather ERR on the side of justice,,, but notice that for perps caught in the act – we still acknowledge that we know that we are making a MISTAKE to give them a trial – that’s why we call it “ERRING” on the side of justice. Just because we promise everyone a trial doesn’t mean it isn’t a mistake… and that seems to be obvious to everyone here who’d rather see the guy get shot than get a trial – because paying for this guy’s medical bills, trial and incarceration are a bigger MISTAKE than shooting him in the act.
  
  A good example is that P.O.S. Major Nidal Hasan currently on trial for slaughting all those unarmed men and women who were serving our country. Everyone knows he’s guilty as hell – We’re wasting our money on his trial because it’s a huge mistake to have left him alive… but that’s what we’re gonna do.
  
  The thing that frosts my shorts with you liberals is that despite the fact that we already waste $billions to guarantee criminals’ rights, that is never enough. No matter how much society does for you, IT IS NEVER ENOUGH…
  
  Notice how you referred to us wanting to save our “PRECIOUS money”… Yes – it IS PRECIOUS to US because WE EARNED IT you snivelling dripsnot!
  
  It is obvious from the sneering word you chose that you DAMN money as something you dislike – Why? – because you’re unworthy of it?…unworthy of the bond that money represents between HONEST men?
