CIA Hot on Osama Bin Laden’s Trail, ‘Stunned’ by His Unprecedented Visibility

  • Osama bin Laden has been criss-crossing Hindu Kush for a series of meetings
  • CIA launches covert operations in that region
  • Bin Laden’s level of visibility and movement has “stunned” officials
  • Speculation in intelligence circles that al Qaeda could be planning another major attack
  • Bin Laden’s meetings: al Qaeda hoping to capitalize on the Arab revolts

The Asia Times reports:

After a prolonged lull, the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has launched a series of covert operations in the rugged Hindu Kush mountains of Pakistan and Afghanistan following strong tip-offs that al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has been criss-crossing the area in the past few weeks for high-profile meetings in militant redoubts.

The US has been on Bin Laden’s trail ever since he fled Afghanistan when the US invaded the country in 2001 to oust the Taliban, but the 54-year-old with a US$50 million reward on his head has always remained several steps in front.

Asia Times Online has learned that decision-makers have put a lot of weight on the information on Bin Laden’s movements as it has come from multiple intelligence agencies, in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia. For at least two years, little credible news has emerged of Bin Laden’s movements and motives. Now, intelligence officials believe they have top-grade accounts as they come from the inner circles of militant camps.

CIA Hot on Osama Bin Ladens Trail, Stunned by His Unprecedented Visibility

According to the Asia Times, officials are “stunned” by the frequency and visibility of Bin Laden’s movements in and around the Hindu Kush mountain range over the last several weeks.

Officials are said to be “stunned” by the visibility of Bin Laden’s movements, and their frequency, in a matter of a few weeks in the outlawed terrain of Pakistan and Afghanistan, the most unprecedented reports about him since he evaded the US in the Tora Bora mountains in Afghanistan in 2001.

The development has fueled speculation in intelligence circles that al-Qaeda could be planning another major attack along the lines of the September 11, 2001, assault on New York and Washington, and the July 2007 foiled bomb attack in London.

However, extensive investigations by Asia Times Online, including exchanges within al-Qaeda’s camps, point in another direction: given the nature of Bin Laden’s meetings, this appears to be the beginning of a new era for a broader struggle in which al-Qaeda, through its Laskhar al-Zil (Shadow Army), will try to capitalize on the Arab revolts and the Palestinian struggle and also revitalize and redefine its role in Afghanistan.

Tip of the hat to Weasel Zippers.

They will scurry about with little to no worry as they know it will be two years before the hawk will fly again. After all the Afghanistan’s killed by al-Qaeda, the best thing to happen to him would be for the “under-trained”, “illiterate”, “intimidated”, “threatened”, and “underpaid” Afghanistan police to capture him, tri him and incarcerate him until he’s extradited to the US. What could be more humiliating for him and simultaneously gain more respect for Afghanistan?

Good find. Let’s see what we the people can do – in calling the University of Maine – to find out what is up with that – when an unrepentant domestic terrorist has his criminal background concealed as a member of The Weather Underground known for his violent act of bombings in the 1960/70′s – killing and maiming people, destroying state and federal buildings, bombing the Pentagon and Capitol Building –
being treated as an “educator” and “activist” – and paid to speak to students at the University of Maine.

Who is paying for his speaking fee – and what amount is it?

Think of the propaganda platform he would be given, and the further incentive for all the Jihadists to continue their crimes. I hope we can find him and then after the trial, hang him from a rope lined with pig grease. Of course only if he is found guilty and then condemned to death; If Obama is in power at the time, most likely he will pardon him as part of his muslum apology tour.

Where is 007 when you need him? Unbelievable that it has been ten years and bin Laden is still running free. You would think that with all of our resources, there would be a super-agent capable of tracking him down. Perhaps authors of successful spy-thriller books should be consulted for ideas?

Hunting one particular rat in a building full of rats is not the easiest of operations. Couple that with the silk panty rules of engagement, you know hunt him down and kill him but don’t hurt or upset anybody while you do it, makes for a tough hunt. The best way to kill a particular rat in a building full of rats…BLOW UP THE WHOLE DAMN BUILDING AND KILL ALL OF THE RATS!!! After all we are talking rats here and one rat is the same as the other they all carry the same fleas and the fleas bring the plauge.

Well these operations are not secret anymore now that we know about them. I think there is something fishy about this story. Since when does the goverment announce it is running covert opperations against this guy. Kind of stupid, I think. I don’t believe it or we have someone leaking the info to tip him off that we are on his tail. Stupid no matter what, get him and then spill the beans.

Why is this being made public? Why tip Bin Laden off? Why is there not quiet analysis of the information to identify his network? Why is there not a Predator lurking quietly waiting to know which house or car he is in so as to deliver a missile up his rear end? One does not achieve these things by making such information public !!!!! So, I suppose that the information must be disinformation ….. to reassure Bin Laden, where ever he is, that the US is on a wrong trail? Baffles me.
