CA Senate Passes Bill Mandating Gay History in Public Schools

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The state Senate has approved legislation that would require California’s public schools to include gay history in social studies lessons.

Supporters say the move is needed to counter anti-gay stereotypes and beliefs that make gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender children vulnerable to bullying and suicide.

Opponents said it would burden an already crowded curriculum and expose students to a subject that some parents find objectionable.

The bill, sponsored by Democratic Sen. Mark Leno of San Francisco, passed Thursday on a 23-14 vote. The measure now goes to the Assembly.

It leaves it up to local school districts to decide what to include in the lessons and at what grade students would receive them.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

    I cannot wait for “The Big One” to hit CA. On another subject relating to schools. I was just helping my son with his ss homework and the question was to compare/contrast MalcomX to Martin Luther King Jr. The text book completely left out any reference to Islam with MalcomX…..actually made him sound like a Capitalist. It was only after reading the info online (provided by the publisher) that you find all the Islamic info on him. What is going on?????

      Gay hisotry, Ok Google Jessie Dirkhising 13 year old boy kidnapped tortured raped and murderd by two homosexuals/The top six U.S. male serial killers were all gay:

      • Donald Harvey claimed 37 victims in Kentucky;

      • John Wayne Gacy raped and killed 33 boys in Chicago, burying them under his house and in his yard;

      • Patrick Kearney accounted for 32, cutting his victims into small pieces after sex and leaving them in trash bags along the Los Angeles freeways;

      • Bruce Davis molested and killed 27 young men and boys in Illinois;

      • A gay sex-murder-torture ring (Corll-Henley-Brooks) sent 27 Texas men and boys to their grave; and

      • Juan Corona was convicted of murdering 25 migrant workers (he “made love” with their corpses).

      Two gays compete for the spot of “world’s worst murderer.” During the Nazi reign of terror, Auschwitz executioner Ludwig Tiene strangled, crushed, and gnawed boys and young men to death while he raped them. Though his grand total is uncertain, he often murdered as many as 100 a day. Gilles de Rais (Bluebeard) brutally destroyed the lives of 800 boys. Each lad was lured to his home, bathed and fed. Just as the poor boy thought “this is my lucky day,” he was raped, then killed by being ripped or cut apart and either burned or eaten.

    It’s official, I will never be visiting California, they got issues. And so do public schools, I attend a public school (and will soon start homeschooling next year) and the lies they teach there are amazing, it’s horrible, because all the kids believe it, but me, because they don’t know any better! This is just sad.

      Awesome! All praise and support to you and your courgeous parents!

      I put my kids through private Christian schools and it was the hardest thing I ever did. It cost so much, some days my wife and didn’t eat at all and for the first two years each month we ate pancakes for every meal. The kids all ate well, but the truth of it is there was too little left for us, and their kids’ growing brains needed the meat/protien. We were pretty creative – making sort of a home made syrup out of powdered sugar and the cheapest butter ever seen. While at first it was really rough, it sure was worth it to ensure the kids received a quality education. Three are done with college now, and the rest are working through their 2nd, 3 and 4th years.

      Honor your mom and dad for doing this for you – as I am sure you do. We are proud for you and your hard work!

      Well technically, every act of sexual perversion or disordered desire falls under the sin of adultery according to Christ in the Gospels and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. I believe that most sane Protestant communities still follow some semblance of this, though it varies from denomination to denomination.

      anniyan428 – The question isn’t about whether gays are somehow less human because of their decisions, so much as questioning the wisdom of people who seek to mainstream sexual immorality as being normal and playing on people’s over-self indulgences. This is generally applicable to ALL people, whether hetero- or homosexuals. For example, it wouldn’t matter if I had anal sex with another man or a woman because the act is intrinsically disordered and in violation of the function and intended purpose of sex. In any event, what reasonable person would attempt to place lust on equal scale with love, and furthermore, do people even understand the difference in our currently oversexualized culture?

      ( I sincerely hope this comment is not removed, as ChristianLayman made a very good point concerning immorality. I’ll try not to be vulgar in explaining things.)

      @ChristianLayman,

      If the concern is purely anal sex, then what about homosexual men who simply do not have it? If two men fall in love and they never do more than kiss, then there is no problem?

      And while it can be argued that anal sex is the norm for two gay men, I think it’s fascinating that it’s mostly heterosexual couples having it. I think we should direct our ire towards pornography and heterosexual couples equally- there are far more straight people having it.

      From Wikipedia (not a great source, I know, but easily referenced):

      “In terms of overall numbers of survey respondents, seven times as many women as gay men said that they engaged in anal intercourse, with this figure reflecting the larger heterosexual population size.[43] According to the National Survey of Sexual Health and Behavior (NSSHB), although anal intercourse is reported by fewer women than other partnered sex behaviors, partnered women in the age groups between 18-49 are significantly more likely to report having anal sex in the past 90 days.[44]”

      So, again, the issue is not homosexuality but anal sex. If Oscar Wilde is being taught in school, it would be very fair to explain that his homosexuality was a large part of his identity and important in relation to his place in history. I don’t think the teacher would be implying, “Anal sex is great!” by teaching that. He or she would be teaching that a literary figure was imprisoned for his orientation.

      Would that be a fair point to make on this issue? Though we may not agree with it, gay historical figures (as well as the gay and lesbian movements of more recent times themselves ) would certainly be mentioned and factor into the tale of the country we love. So long as the sexual acts themselves are not glorified, it should be acceptable, correct?

      They should teach the facts, for sure. They should warn the children that this 1-3% of the population (so-called ‘gays’) commit 33% of the child sex crimes in this country. That means a gay man is about 30x more likely to molest a child than a straight man. Common sense to those that have any, but backed up scientifically as well.

      Doc,
      Your list is laughable. You justy throw a list of names of anyone who someone somewhere might have said that that person possibly was gay, without a shred of evidence.

      Queen Anne was gay? She was married and had 5 children, but eighteen pregnancies.

      The filth that you gay propogandist throw out tarnishes all freindships by implying that they are evidence of homosexuality. You trade in rank rumor and sleaze. I’m pretty sure that is exactly the kind of putrid lies that will be taught.

      Let’s refrain from name calling, DOC! That seems to be your primary weapon throughout this thread. Just because I don’t want to hear about it does not make me a BIGOT. That is the problem with your mentality. Do you think the CA schools should give equal time to Bible study as it is going to give to gay history? If not, you must be a BIGOT. Liberals think that bigotry can only be against blacks, gays, etc. Not so, my friend and BIGOT!

But, how does knowing who Barney Frank is and that he is gay strenthen the argument that gay history needs to be taught in our public schools? If you knew that Waslaw Nijinsky was a 20th century Russian dancer, perhaps your name belongs on that list too.

      Message being…”Hey Susy, would you rather party and spread your legs for every “dime a dozen” boy with a good line, wind up pregnant, tattooed, wearing spandex and living in a trailer park? We are destroying ourselves. Now you union thug teachers go out and teach all our youngins about how much gay history means to our country and forget about all those oldsters that pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor so you could one day teach all about gay sex.

      Most kids rebel against their parents beliefs and authority…you just took it a few steps further by becoming a non-procreating, sexual deviant, lacking the desire to make it on your own…and expect others to do the same.

      All of this stems from a lack of faith in our creator. For a long time the liberals have dumbed down our Lords teachings in order to make our failings in life “OK”…they are not OK…and we will one day be called to answer for them.

      At a time in a childs formative years, when he/she is impressionable and exploring their beliefs and opinions…why encourage them to stroll down the wrong path by having them attend “Tutti Fruiti 101″?

      If there is a “gay gene” or whatever you want to call it (I don’t believe there is) then they’ll become rump riders soon enough on their own. They don’t need some class or teacher saying “Hey kids, look at this and know that is OK to do!” …Because it isn’t.

      Here’s my idea for a Constitutional amendment;

      Public schools may not teach any child a single thing that has not been approved by the parents of that child. Lazy parents can sign a blank waiver, but parents who actually might care how their children’s mind might be poisoned in school can insist on approving every lesson, subject and textbook.

      This would force schools to get back to non-controversial basics.

      Although I realize I’ll probably end up on the same terrorist watch list as military veterans and fundamentalist christians, I’ve got to say this. I see a simple solution to 90%+ of the foolishness we are witnessing in this country. We need to require all public servants to submit to a drug and alcohol testing program. Since our government administrators, representatives and court justices are clearly in “safety-sensitive” positions, it is only fitting that we put them through pre-employment drug screening and random testing. These people would certainly have to pee in a cup after their “reasonable suspicion” episodes.

      Here you want your gay history? I can sum it up in a few sentances so you dont need to waste any more time or money on the subject. In the begining there was nothing. Then GOD got lonely and made animals and finally Man. Then GOD made woman for Man but the Man didnt dig the woman so he made another man for him to be with. One day Adam said to Steve I wonder what we can do with these things between our legs. And Steve came up with a wonderful idea. He noticed that there was a hole in the back end of both of them that excrement comes out of. And thought what goes out must be able to put in. And so GAY history was made when Steve put his penis inside of Adams excrement hole. And they both thought it was good. The end.

      If God was handing out punishments for what happens in the privacy of our own homes then you would be at the free clinic and at the front of the line.

      This is a waste of money. To learn about gay history, all you have to do is read the newspapers. Example: Republicans like Larry – wide stance – Craig. Or Republican evangilists like Ted Haggard. Students should just read political news if they want learn about homosexuality. There are the Democrats who don’t care what people do in private, and there are Republicans who in public support family values, and vehemently hate homosexuality while the cheat on their wives (Gingrich) and have trysts with muscular guys in hotels.

I wouldn’t put it past some of these loons we have as teachers like the one with the slave auction. I need to seriously check into home schooling.

      I find this quite revolting. The wife and I have scratched-off California as one of those states to visit before we end up in a retirement home (in about another 50 years). There is NOTHING in that state we want to see or do.

      Be a part of “the” grassroots Tea Party event of 2011, with all 50 state’s Tea Party and 9.12 groups attending… http://www.americasteapartynews.com/freedomjamboree.php

      Governments like this one are turning me against gay people. I personally don’t have a problem with them living the life they want to live, but I DO HAVE A VERY BIG PROBLEM WITH ANY GOVERNMENT RAMMING IT DOWN MY THROAT AND FORCING PEOPLE TO ACCEPT IT.

      Time for RECALL PETITIONS TO GET THESE LOSERS OUT OF OFFICE.

      Let’s refrain from name calling! Just because I don’t want to hear about it does not make me a BIGOT. That is the problem with your mentality. Do you think the CA schools should give equal time to Bible study as it is going to give to gay history? If not, you must be a BIGOT.

      yeah, even though I live here, this state’s leftist activism is known all over the world. We voted for Prop 8. Marriage is for man and woman (only) we won, twice! What do they do, they take it to the activist, left wing judge who strikes it down as unconstitutional… then when he gets caught and asked why he didn’t dismiss himself from the case because of bias, he says he saw no bias that would not allow him to judge properly… WT?? Give me a break… ONLY in California…

      If it weren’t for a blended family and custody issues, we would NOT be living here.

      We do have both our kids in private Christian school where it is OK to read the bible, Honor God and then Ten Commandments…etc…so we don’t have to deal with the puss that oozes from the poison filled classrooms of California Activist School System.

      My kids (at private Christian School ) learn BOTH world views… the Creation World View and the Everything From Nothing World View (a.k.a. Evolution – never observed, but often quoted )

      Quite a lot of nonsense has been posted on this comment board, so I’d like to take the time to eliminate some of it.

      First of all, what divine right is bestowed upon parents that they have absolute authority to determine what values their children have, and would therefore have the right to determine what should not be taught in school. I specifically say not taught in school since I would assume that everything should be taught in school unless there is a reason not to do so. From a Utilitarian perspective of education, that idea would be utter nonsense. From what I have observed in my own experiences, home schooling at best gives a person a decent education while hindering their people skills, and at worst home schooling indoctrinates children into false presumptions, quack science, and harmful ideologies. Therefore, I think that before anyone decides to home school their children due to their disagreements with the curriculum, they should think long and hard about whether what they are doing will be beneficial to the children or not from as objective a viewpoint as possible, and that they should also question whether it is ethical for them to shelter their children from “dangerous idea,” which in my opinion is the worst kind of censoring. If one truly believes that something like evolution, gay rights, socialism, etc. is being taught in a biased manner in school, one should teach what one believes is the correct perspective, and if it’s true, then children will accept what is said because no untruth can bear the brunt of the equivalent truth. So, in essence, I disagree with the entire basis of homeschooling on the grounds that its manipulative, counterproductive to education, and harmful to society as a whole.

      In regards to whether homosexuality is ethical for Christians, I say that it is non sequitur to say that it is sinful to be homosexual (at least in regards to people of a predominately homosexual sexual orientation). Jesus was completely about love. In Matthew 22:34-40, Jesus even declares that the entire basis of the law was to love God and to love thy neighbor as thyself. How, then, can one say that homosexual people should live without love, or that one should not love and appreciate homosexual people? As empirical evidence, I’ve seen dozens of homosexual people who have lost their way with God not because of their homosexuality, but because of the presumption that homosexuality is not alright with Jehovah. Furthermore, these people express far more love for their fellow mankind than I’ve ever seen from many self-proclaimed Christians (see Westboro Baptist Church for one thing). I don’t believe that it’s really necessary to go into how homosexuality is not a choice, but I feel that many are misguided in this regard. The APA has said that it is not a choice and that it is not a mental disorder (I’ll explain later the reasoning for this decision) which I believe is grounds enough to accept such a proposition. Furthermore, to supply my own anecdotal evidence, I’ve had no issue overcoming masturbation, soda drinking, thinking negative thoughts about people, etc. but I’ve yet to succeed in overcoming my “homosexual tendencies,” despite investing far more time in effort than any of the aforementioned sins/bad habits. To me, saying that one is merely tempted to be homosexual is like saying that one is merely tempted to eat and that people have food eating tendencies (in regards to eating in general, not specifically overeating). So, therefore, I see no reasonable grounds for supporting the proposition that homosexuality is at all a sin, in either regards to the orientation or the actions involved for a homosexually oriented person. How can you say that it is wrong to love when Jesus said it was wrong for one to not love?

      As I stated earlier, the APA’s DSM-IV does not classify homosexuality in and of itself as a mental disorder by definition. For a behavior to be classified as a disorder, it must be atypical, disturbing, maladaptive, and unjustifiable. The crux of the issue for homosexuality lies in the disturbing criteria (when it says disturbing, it means for the individual, of course, not for society). While sometimes homosexuality can disturb an individual (which, incidentally, is a mental disorder) homosexuality is not in and of itself disturbing to homosexual individuals. Furthermore, I’d compare conversion therapy to going to China for some incredibly rare, expensive cure that might not even work when one could much more easily take an Aspirin and be perfectly fine the next day. According to the APA, studies regarding conversion therapy have had mixed results, and almost all of the studies coming out with any significant number of “changed,” patients had some sort of issue with defining “changed,” defining who was homosexual, etc. For instance, one study defined being cured as being physically capable of engaging in heterosexual sex. Well, of course such a study would turn out results, but the individual could just as well not WANT to engage in heterosexual sex while being capable of it. Why, then, is so much time spent on curing homosexuality when the only disorderly part of homosexuality could most likely be fixed with gay-affirmative therapy, which has been shown to actually be successful (and has far less chance for psychological damage than conversion therapy).

      @Avenger- What you describe is quackery of the worst kind. You would, it seems, favor killing off or at least sterilizing those with a moderately low IQ, disabled people (when the disability is genetic), and those with lower athletic ability since such things are also maladaptive and hurtful to society. Sadly, this is not a reductio ad absurdum argument since you yourself precisely described eugenics without actually using the vocabulary term.

      @Snowleopard- You would do well to remember that God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son to die for our sins. The key idea there is that the world is a horrible, sinful place and always has been. Therefore, I think it’s very unlikely that God will reign down destruction on America for its relatively minor sins. In fact, if God did decide to smite America, it would most likely be because of America’s greediness, hatefulness to the poor, aversion to welfare programs for the poor, and general dislike of other people rather than some silly thing like teaching gay history in schools.

      As a final word, I would like to say that while I perhaps don’t think too much time should be given to gay history (just as I think we shouldn’t overemphasize woman’s history or black history), it’s not being taught at all as things currently stand in school. The Stonewall Riots, which were to gay people what the Emmancipation Proclamation was for slaves, wasn’t even mentioned once in my history class. When I went to look up the Stonewall Riots, it wasn’t even mentioned in my history text book. Mind you, this was AP American History, so it should have been thorough enough to at least mention the riots. Furthermore, it’s often glossed over that homosexuality was quite an open, common thing in Ancient Greece and Rome. Here’s a small list (a much more thorough list has already been given)- Socrates, the first of philosophers; Alexander the Great, one of mankind’s greatest military leaders; Vergil, one of the greatest Roman poets; Michelangelo, one of the Renaissance’s greatest artists; and Catallus (bisexual), another and great Roman poet.
