Obama Says He Won’t Release bin Laden Photos: He’s ‘Not a Trophy’

The world will not see the Osama bin Laden death photos any time soon.

CBS News is reporting that in a “60 Minutes” interview set to air Sunday, the president will say that he will not release the reportedly gruesome photos of bin Laden’s death.

Excerpts of the interview will air on Wednesday night’s “CBS Evening News.”

“It is important to make sure that very graphic photos of somebody who was shot in the head are not floating around as an incitement to additional violence or as a propaganda tool,” the president told Steve Kroft.

The risks of release outweigh the benefits,” the president told Steve Kroft in the interview. “Conspiracy theorists around the world will just claim the photos are doctored anyway, and there is a real risk that releasing the photos will only serve to inflame public opinion in the Middle East.”

“Imagine how the American people would react if Al Qaida killed one of our troops or military leaders, and put photos of the body on the internet,” he continued. “Osama bin Laden is not a trophy — he is dead and let’s now focus on continuing the fight until Al Qaida has been eliminated.”

“We don’t trot out this stuff as trophies,” he reiterated. “The fact of the matter is, this is somebody who was deserving of the justice that he received.”

The president also turned to a sports analogy to explain his decision: “we don’t need to spike the football.”

According the president, the “graphic nature of the photo” would “create a national security risk.”

“We discussed this internally,” he said. “Keep in mind, we are absolutely certain that this was him. We’ve done DNA sampling and testing. And so there is no doubt that we killed Osama bin Laden.”

“There is no doubt that Osama bin Laden is dead,” he reiterated. “Certainly there is no doubt among al Qaeda members that he is dead. So we don’t think that a photograph in and of itself is going to make any difference.”

“There are going to be some folks who deny it,” he added. “The fact of the matter is, you will not see bin Laden walking on this earth again.”

Fox News White House correspondent Mike Emanuel explored the decision when it was announced:

Yesterday it was widely speculated that at least one photo would be released in order to prove the terrorist’s death and bring closure. In fact, even CIA director Leon Panetta said yesterday that he thought a photo would be released.

“I mean, I think it will be,” Panetta said. However, he added that “the White House makes that final decision.”

It seems now it has.

My 10 year old does the same thing to my 7 year old when she wants to see something. Only to make the 7 year old mad. “get your own picture” “MOM!!!!” Yeah. that’s our president. An absolute child. He’s got em. You don’t. SO THERE!!! By 15 or 16 they will have grown out of this. He hasn’t. Very sad.

I have conflicting opinions about this. On one hand, the image of UBL with his head blown open could incite a response from the opposition, but on the other, showing the photo with the caption “Don’t F@(% With U.S.” at the bottom might be a deterrent. I think in the best interest of national security that it is probably better not to show it. Obviously, if we didn’t actually kill him he would be on every television and radio from Istanbul to New Delhi by now.

  After the news leaked prior to BHO appearing on camera I had only one wish. That was that a large FED-X box be on the podium and that BHO would reach in and pull out the head of OBL.   That’s all this was, a political move because the messiah’s….I mean Obama’s approval ratings were way down….of course he only got 10 pts for this and it will quickly drop after this decision. But don’t forget folks, George H W Bush jumped to 90% approval rating for kicking Saddam out of Kuwait and still lost to Billy boy Clinton because of the economy, so Obama won’t be able to pull off a win with this even if he does show us the pictures…unless he’s thinking he’ll wait until 2 days before Nov elections 2012.

  He then proceeded to throw that election against Clinton.
  
  I watched that election closely. It seemed like EVERY DAY one would answer the other assault from the previous day and then return fire. The next day was the other guy’s turn. And so on. At one point it seemed like Bush Sr. just quit defending himself.

The whole story of Barack Hussein Obama is one of hiding everything he can that would prove anything he’s done. Right now he’s afraid of any retaliation from the Islamic Muslim community for fear of reprisals he now like a coward cowers in a corner in the White House, with his thumb in his mouth, waiting for Valerie Jarrett to pat him on the head and tell him what to do next, the poor boy.

  So would I! But it’s possible that not much was left of Osama’s head, depending on what sort of rounds were used and how he was hit. If all we have to show is a mass of blood, bone and brain matter, perhaps with a long scraggly beard attached, all we do is encourage people who want to believe it wasn’t really him.

  that’s what I was saying just last night to my wife, he’s suddenly out of no where ordered the assassination and immediate burial of bin Laden, everyone has been a buzz about that….to make sure the buzz doesn’t die down too quickly he waffles on the decision to release/not release the photos…..what’s going on behind the scenes that he doesn’t want us to see? Also, call me a conspiracy theorist nut job if you want but this man has lied to us all too often for me to buy into the story without proof.   No, they are just doing what they do best… causing trouble to get people worked up. Once enough people cry conspiracy theory (even if there is something shady going on) they will release the photos. By then, the conspiracies will be tied (in the eyes of the media slaves anyway) solely to the photos, and nothing else. Once the photos are released, everything will be considered debunked by association.
  
  Just watch. They will release the photos just like they released the birth certificate. Maybe their (Rahm Emanuel supporting) friend Trump will help them with that too. Trump, the supposed “birther Republican presidential candidate” can get even crazier and get smacked down a second time. Oh, those crazy Republicans.

The photos will be released close to the 2012 elections to remind Americans that he, the Messiah and uncontestable military genius, was alone responsible for taking out OBL. Besides, the muslim world didn’t worry too much about releasing their videos of the horrendous beheadings of more than one American.   Of course they won’t show the pictures of his dead body not until they are finished with him at CAMP WATERBOARD. Anyone who thinks the military is so stupid as to kill someone who is unarmed and know more about the terrorist plots and cells around the world is an idiot. The financial collapse and bank bailouts, along with the $ trillion deficit run rate was what Bush left for Obama. You can’t throw a $350 billion a year war and cut taxes and then blame deficits on a few minor social programs. Medicare and Social Security are paid for separately.   This is the Freaking United States of America, since when did we start censoring our news and media coverage? Oh that’s right, November 2008. Muslim radicals have already vowed revenge on America and will probably make good on that threat. Does this administration really think censoring the photo will stop their retaliation? I personally don’t believe they have a “picture,” I want to believe it but this administration has lied so many times their credibility is shot to hell.
