Shock Classroom Video: Teacher Watches As Student Beats Classmate in Head

If you ask the local union, the teacher in the following video did the right thing by standing idly by while one student in his geometry class repeatedly punched another in the head. But that hasn’t stopped the outrage.

Last Thursday at Seagoville High School in the Dallas, TX area, Michael Milczanowksi said he was targeted by a classmate who beat him as fellow students and especially his teacher looked on. And it was all caught on video:

“This kid was actually trying to hurt me, and I could see it in his eyes,” Milczanowksi, who is seen just standing and taking the beating in the video, told WFAA-TV. Regarding the teacher’s non-action, he said, “I expected him to physically intervene to keep that from happening, but I guess I was wrong:”

According to the local teachers union president, the teacher’s response was warranted.

“Teachers have intervened in the past,” Rena Honea of theΒ  Alliance/AFT union told WFAA. “They have been injured. They have not been able to return to work. They have been reprimanded for intervening. So there is a huge question mark as to what’s truly appropriate.”

According to the Dallas Morning News, the district has spent a lot of money on “assault leave,” which is “relief pay mandated by state law for employees seriously injured.” How much? The paper says the district spent $1.2 million on assault leave “for 42 employees from January 2004 to November 2007.”

β€œIn today’s society which is a violent society, you do not touch the student. That should be left up to the administration,” she added to KDFW-TV. β€œI believe that that is for the safety of number one the students, but for the individual teacher as well.”

According to the Dallas Indpendent School District, which is still investigating the incident, it doesn’t have a policy on teachers intervening in student altercations. In a statement, the district said, “The altercation on the video shot at Seagoville High School is clearly inappropriate. The district has zero tolerance for violence in the classroom and has responded accordingly.”

That “response” has included disciplinary action against the attacker, who could also face criminal assault charges. Milczanowksi has since pulled out from the school.

The district told KDFW it would not comment on whether the teacher is facing any action. “It’s a personal matter,” it told the station.

Fire that STUPID TEACHER. What is going on in that school when a teacher stand by doing nothing while one of his charges is being assaulted>>>. I hope the teacher and the school board is held accountable and maybe even charges filed against that teacher who allowed this to take place. as for the student who got hit, LEARN TO DEFEND YOURSELF, obivously the adults who are there are to afraid to get involved

The BLACK teacher is not only racist but is aiding and abeding the kid doing the crime. Send the BLACK RACIST to jail. Put him in a tank with a bunch of skinheads see how well he does. Expel the kid doing the crime and send him to juvi if hes under 18, jail if not. Geeze that was easy. On the qestion of defend or not defend yourself I say defend. Grab anything with any weight to it and a swing it at the head of the guy beating you. Or take your pencil and jam it somewhere deep in his body.

I am a teacher. I am a parent. This just floors me that the teacher did nothing! I shared this with my principal and made sure I had clarification as to our campus policy. He was in agreement that the teacher in the video was out of line.

Dude needs to be fired. If he has such a lack of control in his class that one student feels he can stand up in the middle of class and “punk out” another, while two other students can video the incident, then he is not a very effective motivator of student behavior and they do not respect him.

I cannot believe this kid didn’t even raise up his arms and hands to protect his head. Has the survival instinct been completely bred out of our kids? Certainly this kind of violence isn’t an isolated event for the perpetrator. Sad state of affairs that children seem to be so violent in the schools today. Thanks teacher’s unions….winning!

Then you would have been fired, brought up on charges of assault and sued by the parents. In 35 years I have broken up my share of fights, seen teachers beat up, had to have HIV tests and now in Ky a teacher was fighting for his life after trying to break up a fight between 2 boys. You have to judge each one separately as to what you do. I agree you certainly do not sit there with your hands in your pockets and do nothing however. Would you expect a female teacher 5’0 tall and 100 lbs to step in and break it up?

The problem with stupid zero tolerance policies, which are designed to protect weak-minded, cowardly school adminstrators, is that they snare children who decide to fight back. If the teachers and administrators do not intervene to protect a child refusing to fight back in obedience to the schools’ policies, then we have effectively turned the management of the school over to the bullies.

I’ve written about this before on the The Blaze. I’ve taught my children to fight back, never to start a fight but to defend themselves even if it invovles a disproportional response. They understand the consequences of fighting back, that they’ll be punished by the school system.

The teacher’s and the union’s logic escapes me on this issue. If the teacher didn’t intervene — avoiding physical contact with the pupil — and the aggressor severely wonded, maimed, or killed the other kid, wouldn’t the teacher also be liable? On the street are citizens not under some demand to protect the helpless?

I caught a stray punch at a college basketball game when I intervened between two drunk fans. It rang my bell pretty good, but one guy was on the verge of severely hurting another. I knew the risk, but I couldn’t just stand there and watch a pummeling that was turning into an assault and battery.

Parents who have children in schools with zero tolerance policies, should be quick to file assault charges on any perpetrator against their children.

    This is insanity.

I think I remeber you writing on The Blaze after another video of a kid punching another kid twice his size lots of times. Then the larger kid slammed the assaulter. The problem with that is the larger kid was ALSO punished. In this video, if the larger kid would have protected himself, he would have also been punished.

Back when I was in school and you got in trouble the teacher would give you a crack and then get ahold of the parents. When you got home DAD would then commence to whooping that butt. I was a teacher in the Texas School Systems and a highly paid consultant to The Texas TEA and member of the governor’s Select committee on education. I was on the State Textbook Committee and member of many select tiger committees that covered education to the highest degree. I will tell you now, it is highly important to not let these types of situations happen. The teacher must defuse and not let it get to this level. If it does we have buttons in every classroom that signals the administration of an emergency about to happen. finally if it is a life or death thing the teacher should do all he/she can to stop such activity. Parents are held responsible and students are made aware of this as well as the parents. If a student does act, he will be suspended, or kicked out of school. Many large schools have police on campus to also aid in this kind of affair. I personally broke up several fights on campus by grabbing the students and holding them until other teachers and administrators arrived. The safety of the kids is highly important. Ultimately the parents are held accountable.

AMEN to that….I’ve been saying over and over that the parents are ultimately responsible and if my kid was out of countrol and I was no longer able to deal with them…..I’ve told my kids I’ll call the cops on them myself. I won’t stand for an unruly child and the parents of these kids need to be hauled off to jail….maybe then they will start teaching their kids right. I certainly would NOT want to be a school teacher in today’s society. I’d get arrested for disciplinning them. (sorry about spelling errors, not much sleep last night)

I’m curious, The Dallas ISD is “reprimanding” the assaulter – Why wasn’t the student handcuffed and sent to county jail??? I keep hearing about children being handcuffed for bringing aspirin or a plastic knife to school. But when a student beats the snot out of another kid he’s “reprimanded”. Guys and gals WTH?????????

The teacher was a wuss. He should have stood between the kids and said very directly, “This is going to stop and it’s going to stop, now”. Instead, they’re supposed to wait for an administrator? Someone with authority? Since when are teachers not supposed to have authority? He’s just a coward hiding behind his union.

So, our kids must spend their classroom time in fear, being more focused on how to protect themselves (because nobody else is going to) instead of actually LEARNING??

What ever happened to just stepping in and saying STOP THIS FOOLISHNESS! And don’t even get me going on the useless incompetent union in this matter. And we wonder why some kids bring a gun to stop the bullies?? When the kids lose hope and feel that they must do “anything” to protect themselves because the “adults” have failed them…just sayin’

Remember, the union doesn’t give a rat’s a** about the students. Albert Shanker would be proud of this stellar example of abandoning all responsibility for the safety and well-being of the children under an “educator”‘s care. “When school children start paying union dues, that’s when I’ll start representing the interests of school children.”

here is the problem with what the teacher did, he just stood there and watched, made to effort to get help in there. the teacher unions in this country are out of control, they don’t teach (hence the lower the test scores keep going), and when they do teach, its not what us as parents want them to be teaching, teaching our kids that Che Guevara was a hero, when in actuality he was a mass murder.
so i place blame on the teacher and the schools, they have changed the cultural view of they way our children look at the world today. sit down and talk with a kid today and see how the schools a preaching about how an Open Society would fix everything, and we know how wrong that is.

It is for this reason in the video I make sure they know pressure points, joint isolation and how to use other methods of restraint to defend themselves. This teacher has no place in the classroom.

When I was in school (back in the Stone Age, when children were actually taught how to read, write, and do math), Rule No. 1 was DO NOT FIGHT ON SCHOOL GROUNDS. Rule 2 was EXPECT TO BE EXPELLED FOR FIGHTING ON SCHOOL GROUNDS.

A girl picked a fight with me less than a month before graduation. We were in the hall. The football coach grabbed my arm and slammed me against the lockers. My arm bled. I was so mad that I couldn’t see who he was! The girl and I were both expelled (on a Friday), but the principal let me back in on Monday when I told him that my daddy could not be there because of his job and that my mother had said, “Mr. Holiday does NOT want me to be there!” He told me to go to my classes.

This is what 47 years of the liberal’s Great Society have brought us. Face it, liberalism is an epic failure. We need to stamp it out where ever it exists. Tear it down and replace the entitlements with teaching self reliance and self respect. As we have seen, giving people money without them earning it teaches them to not have values. It strips people of their self respect and makes them slaves to the state. To teach a child to be dependant instead of self reliant is cruel beyond words. This is the behavior you get from people who have lost all self respect. It turns them into animals. This is why liberalism is evil.

He would have been dragged by the MALE teacher and paddled by the MALE principal or MALE vice-principal. When the female teachers had problems beyond their control, the called one of the MALE teachers.

Corporal punishment at the hands of the faculty is not the answer. It breeds resentment, hate, and animosity.

There are other more effective means of discipline.

I, for one, rebelled against corporal punishment and it was one of the reasons for my increased rebellion against authority and increased aggressiveness towards authority. It was definitely a problem for me that any adult other than my parents would touch me in any way I don’t like, let alone paddling. The teachers ought to be capable of stepping in between an incident like this to create separation and distance in the interest of the safety of the students.

Next, bully punching weaker kid who is not defending himself. Next, kid not defending himself – I mean, c’mon, duck, cover your head, keep a desk in between you and the attacker, something. How on earth can we be FORCED to enroll our kids in these unsafe houses of indoctrination? Dont tell me that we need to change it from the inside, that doesnt work, you can have a school board dominated by conservatives but still have to run things the way the state in coordiantion with the teachers unions, dictate.

The entire public school model needs to be scrapped, government should only provide services that can not be provided by the private sector, education is not one of those services and in fact, private schools are a proven superior product for usually less cost than public schools.

Typical response by the Teachers Union and School Officials. What happened to the days when while students were in school, the teachers and administration were responsible for your child’s safety? Every situation is different but what if the kid had a knife and repeatedly stabbed the other student? Where do the incompetent decisions, responses, and lack of actions stop? I don’t condone violence but I have always told my kids, I will back them 100% if they are attacked and they defend themselves. Fighting is unacceptable in a classroom but I for one am not accepting that because these idiots refuse to stand up for what’s right and safe, that my children will be beaten because they don’t want to do their jobs.

If I was on a street corner and saw a person getting beaten, I would step in and handle it. The way the laws are written, I would probably be charged with assault and battery but I bet the attacker would think twice about attacking someone again. That kid who threw the punches needs a good ole’ ass whoop-pin! Semper Fi

I believe that these kinds of teachers are another reason that the schools are becoming a haven for these gangster kids that know they can do as they damn well please with very little being done to control them. It is the responsibility of a teacher to intervene when this type of behavior is taking place and it is part of their JOB to be there to protect the weaker students. Are we to let the idiots continue to run the asylum?
This damnable whiny ass liberal government has forbidden us from spanking our children when they misbehave so we end up with children that have no boundaries and then we let them run amok in the school and incompetent teachers stand idly by and watch. One good shot to the temple and we could have been watching the death of a student.
Just sit back and watch, folks, the government will take care of you!

      Sorry piece of crap teacher!
When I taught, I made it PERFECTLY CLEAR, that I would jump right in the middle of ANYBODY pulling this crap. I am 6′ 1″ and 220 lbs.. I am a trained MMA fighter and stick fighter. I made damn sure the kids knew this on the first day of school. I was also the school’s Asst. Wrestling Coach. I apologize if it sounds like I’m boasting, I just want you all to understand that I’m NOT what people think a teacher should look like. I am constantly asked if I am Military or Law Enforcement. Anyway, the other thing I made sure the students understood was that EVERYONE in that school was under MY protection. I hate this kind of thing. I was one who was picked on in Middle and High School because I didn’t reach my current size until my 20′s. I never bullied my students, but they had enough fear of me in them to keep anything like this from happening in ANY class in my building.
A little respectful fear is a good thing. You should have seen the parent’s faces when they met me for parent/teacher conferences. Priceless. Especially the Dad that thought he was going to intimidate me. That lasted until I stood to shake hands with him.
Ok, enough about me. Tell me about yourself…

      @SINISTAMACE,
“I, for one, rebelled against corporal punishment and it was one of the reasons for my increased rebellion against authority and increased aggressiveness towards authority.”

Maybe it wasn’t the corporal punishment. Maybe it’s just because you’re as *******.

What the HELL happened to our country?! Why is it an union issue for doing what is right and moral? How can someone just stand by and another HUMAN gets assaulted just because they might get reprimanded for intervening? They are cowards, plain and simple!

      “it’s a tough call”?

Great … listen to the “lib” … it’s all about the teacher’s job security.

      Just forget the children.

      I’ve had enough …

No, it was the corporal punishment.

Additionally, I was expelled for beating up little snide jerks like yourself.
