Obama Quotes Scripture to Push ‘Moral Imperative’ of Immigration Reform

In making his case that immigration reform is morally imperative, the president quoted the Book of Deuteronomy – comparing illegal immigrants to the Jews in Egypt.

“Immigration reform is a moral imperative, and so it’s worth seeking greater understanding from our faith,” said Obama. “As it is written in the Book of Deuteronomy [10:19], ‘Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.’ To me, that verse is a call to show empathy to our brothers and our sisters; to try and recognize ourselves in one another.

  It is a strange choice of scripture given Obama’s anti Zionist position on the state of Israel. The preceeding verse in Deutoronomy 10: 11 “And the LORD said unto me, Arise, take thy journey before the people, that they may go in and possess the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give unto them. ” Thus Obama is saying illegal aliens are rightfully possessing a land promised to their ancestors by God.   If you understood his perspective you would know he is practically quoting liberation theology. The scary side of things is realizing the other side of the story. Liberation theologians believe God is only for the ‘oppressed’ because God was for the Israelites and Jesus was for the poor and inflicted. When it comes to Israel, realize what God did to the ‘oppressors.’ Egypt didn’t do to well in the Old Testament with the plagues and all. In a liberation theology perspective, what could he be thinking about in regard to the USA, the ultimate ‘oppressor?’

  I agree that it should be easier for spouses to be united w/o having to wait for years in Juarez for paperwork to be done. I have a friend whose wife is Mexican, lives here illegally w/him and their daughter. To do it lawfully, she’d have to go to Juarez and wait for years w/o any family support. That’s not any more “right” than claim jumpers who jump the border and claim a stake in the US.

And the moral thing to do for Illegals, and for Americans, is to have them to come into this country the legal and moral way. It is because we have learned the lessons of our past that it is time that we do the right and moral thing for anyone that wants to come to the USA. It’s right for them and it’s right for us.

  SNOW, I certainly will check her out! So sorry you are still suffering with allergies. Maybe Obama will issue an executive order banning pollen, or maybe he will call on God, since he seems to do that when it suits his agenda (not that the problems ‘We the People’ have matter). We are expecting rain storms tomorrow night preceeding the cooler weather next week so I am hoping it will wash the balance of the pollens away. Hopefully you will get some rain too.   This is called eisegesis, where you take an interpretation from a text which is not consistent with the context.
  
  In fact, eight verses earlier, it says this in reference to the Jews:
  
  Deut. 10:11
  
  “11 And the LORD said unto me, Arise, take thy journey before the people, that they may go in and possess the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give unto them.”
  
  So, while the Jews were told to be kind to strangers, the land of Israel still belonged to them. And under the the direct rule of God under the Jewish theocracy, they had direct promises from God regarding their safety. (FYI, there are no more theocracies since Christ’s resurrection.)
  
  So, not only does this passage not apply to anyone today, but it doesn’t even say what Obama says it says.
  
  Such inattention to detail as it applies to religious books is common with proponents of Liberation Theology (like his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright).

  I’ve read a lot of hatred from the good Christians on this website. But I realize the hatred is based not on the poster’s religious views but on their hatred of the President of the United States. You’ll have to look into your heart to find the source of that anger.
  
  I’ve also seen time and time again that Conservatives are outraged by someone quoting the Bible on any passage that contradicts their conservative views. To me that shows the triumph of political beliefs over the teachings of the Christ. I see the idolatry of the rich such as Donald Trump, and the disparagement of the poor as worthless, lazy human beings (not found in Christ’s teachings). Although Chirst taught tolerance and acceptance, I see the good Christians here expressing their hatred toward other religions, and towards anyone who does not agree with them politically, regardless of their religious beliefs.

  Not only is merely being rich not frowned upon in the Bible, and not only is self-sufficiency a Biblically economic goal, but the Bible in fact does speak of some poor people as being the cause of their own poverty.

  First we need to understand and accept what is occurring at our boarders….
  
  First, we are responsible for our actions…We have the Statue of Liberty with an inscription at her feet…I ask you read it…
  
  Second, yes there are many many many fleeing to the USA, the beacon of Liberty, for jobs, a better life, to smuggle drugs, and to harm America…Not all are the same…
  
  Third, Mexico is a narcoState…A state run by Cartels and persecutes it’s people at will for standing against them…
  
  America, this is reality…How one deals with problems is dictated by their faith or lack of faith…
  
  Ignore bad BO…He is using God’s Words as manipulation…
  
  Yes we should help those seeking help…We should encourage all to experience Liberty and we should up hold our laws…
  
  Our laws contradict each other and consulates are corrupt…Go to one and see….Our leaders send money to NarcoMexico instead of dealing with the problem themselves making the problem worse and the hatred from Americans seeing those breaking the law is destroying our honor and faith….Satan is winning…We will find a solution when we are ready..

  First, only individuals can be Christian – there is no such thing as a Chritian Nation.
  
  Second, redistribution of other people’s wealth is theft, and theft is not Christian.
  
  Third, we are not a nation like you think of the term “nation”. We are several sovereign States in mutual compact under a Constitutional Republic (The writer of the Pledge of Allegiance was a Socialist, by the way).
  
  The whole point of being several sovereign states under a Constitutional Republic is to keep most of the work of government DECENTRALIZED, contrary to the socialist/fascist notion of “nation” of which you’re thinking.
  
  And to the argument that the Constitution provides for a stronger general government than did the Articles of Confederation (“… in order to form a more perfect union …”), it must be noted that State sovereignty and the recognition of individual inalienable rights was always the goal, and that the purpose of the Constitution was to make each sovereign State more unified with each other in their respect of these inalienable rights.
