Jason Mattera, editor at Human Events, is well known for his ambush interviews of liberals. And he’s struck again, this time confronting self-admitted socialist Senator Bernie Sanders.
In his new video, Mattera decides to confront Sanders about whether or not Sanders is profiting from his new book, The Speech: A Historic Filibuster on Corporate Greed and the Decline of Our Middle Class. It’s a printing of his eight and a half hour filibuster speech in December decrying the president’s tax deal with Republicans.
In the “Acknowledgements” section of the book, Sanders says his “authorial proceeds” will be donated to a children’s charity. But Mattera wanted to make sure that was true, so he showed up at a recent book signing to ask about it. And while he does ask Sanders about the proceeds, he also asks a very interesting question: will Sanders sign Mattera’s copy of the book to “capitalism, the greatest economic system on earth?”
The answer? No, and then yes — sort of. See below:
To be fair, Sanders conveys the same message to Mattera as he does in the book’s acknowledgements — the money will go to charity. That’s commendable. But in his write-up of the story, Mattera makes an interesting point:
Meanwhile, if Sanders follows through on his pledge, there’s no word on whether or not the Senate’s only (admitted) socialist will use the “donations” to lower his taxable income for 2012.

May. 19, 2011 at 1:32pmI’ll tell you what.. The people that make the technology that keeps us safe and saves lives in the process deserve all the profit they can get.. You can always become a socialist, communist, or a subject of a tyrant- But you can almost never get your freedom back.. It would be a whole lot less expensive both in dollars And American lives to just carpet bomb our enemies – Which is exactly what people who want the tax dollars in the entitlement check advocate! Won’t be any entitlement checks for long without our military! Coveting is the worst kind of greed!

May. 19, 2011 at 11:51amPlease, leave this country while you still can. Join the Pakistani Taliban and catch a JDAM with your teeth, you 9/11 truther, traitor, Marxist, whacko. You hate America sooooooo much, why not move to Cuba or Venezuela? Just another weak-kneed Leftist without a clue….could survive two days in Caracas, you probably don’t even know Spanish (I do). You know what the Taliban, Chavez, Castro, and China does to their homosexuals don’t you? What a hypocrite fool you are. Eating and drinking your Capitalism, while railing against it. You’re a traitor and a moron. Grow a spine and move to N.Korea or China, and try out your Marxism for a year, then come back let us know how great an experience it was. Have you ever tried to buy bread or milk in Venezuela since Chavez took power? I have, and it sucks. What about the rolling brownouts in Cuba? Don’t lecture us until you have tried it, you well-fed coward. Traitorous fool.

May. 19, 2011 at 9:17amI’ve been looking up stuff about Vermont and found this on gun laws
The term “Vermont Carry” is widely used by gun rights advocates to refer to allowing citizens to carry a firearm concealed or openly without any sort of permit requirement, however this term is being replaced by the term “Constitutional Carry”. Vermont law does not distinguish between residents and non-residents of the state; both have the same right to carry while in Vermont.

May. 19, 2011 at 10:57amHaving lived in Vermont for 15 years, I watched business after business close up, reduce their workforce or leave the State. The sad part of it is that liberalism is not the ideology of what is commonly referred to there as a “Vermonter.” The only way you can be a Vermonter is if you were born there. The problem is that Vermont was invaded with a-holes like Dean and Sanders (both originally from New York) and a bunch of social engineers from other places like New Jersey, Mass and Rhode Island.
Vermont taxes its residents to death with a heavy income tax and sales tax, while right next door in New Hampshire there is none. Even the now largest employer in the state, Killington Ski Area,at one point jokingly (I think) wanted to become part of NH (they are 40 miles from the border). The once largest employer in Vermont, IBM has about 4,000 less employees then it had at one time. The reason was that Vermont did not want to build a road to help the plant move product. After 10 years of fighting this, IBM gave up and decided that no new investment will be made in Vermont..
So, after paying $7,000 in property tax a year for no services (no police, no full time fire, no water, no sewer, living on a dirt road and watching a school budget go up 7% a year graduating illiterates, I moved.
For those that can afford it, the skiing is great, the pace slower, and the taxes are crushing. But even Bernie didn’t vote to the left as many times as Obama….go figure.

May. 19, 2011 at 4:16pmAh yes let’s keep giving attention to the growing number of “critics” in the world who add nothing to society or the human experience. Place Mattera in the same group as Palin, Gingrich, Bachmann, etc. The art critics of our time who are so adept at telling us where someone else is wrong or failing, but say and do nothing that actually adds value. Other than to make money themselves by feeding the angry mob.
