‘Miracle’ Dog Survives 40 Gun-Shot Wounds & Being Buried Alive
When Mason — the incredible dog from Alabama — survived being tossed about by a tornado, crawled home on two broken legs, and then went through incredible surgery to repair his injuries, I’ll admit I was nearly positive I wouldn’t find another heartwarming dog story for a while.
I was wrong.
Meet “Star.” She’s the mixed-breed dog from Malta who was found not only buried alive up to her face, but also found to have 40 gunshot wounds, including several to her head.
The New York Daily News explains:
Officers investigating an unrelated case near the city of Birzebbuga last week heard faint whispers from under a plank with a tree stump on top of it. After removing the plank, they made the gruesome discovery: a dog buried alive in dirt up to its face, its snout and limbs tied up, and multiple bullet wounds in its head, The Times of Malta reported.
The dog, a female mixed-breed that rescuers named “Star,” was dug out and taken for emergency surgery at the Ta’ Qali hospital. Doctors were able to save her life, despite removing more than 40 gun pellets from her skull.
Malta news station One News has posted a video of the incredible canine. While you may not be able to understand the language in the report, the pictures say it all:
According to the Daily News, Star has received several adoption offers from around the world. She even has her own Facebook page and her story has led both TIME and HuffPo to dub her the “miracle dog.”
Officials are still looking for those responsible. In Malta, an animal cruelty conviction can net up to one year in jail.

I have 4 rescue dogs AND I work with foster children AND underprivileged children ALL AT MY OWN TIME AND EXPENSE. Government can not take the place of caring neighbors. I do not look for glory or reimbursementt from anyone. I strive to do what is right and help those less fortunate than myself. I can not belive the absolute disregard for life that who ever did this has. And your solution is a well placed bullet, I am sorry that you feel the way you do.You are a sad excuse for a human being. I wonder how much you help those in need. Those who caste the first stone are usually those who criticize to make up for their shortcomings. One thing about dogs, they have an amazing ability to forgive and give love, Can’t say the same thing about alot of humans. God Bless those people who saved this dog and exhibited their humanity.

Also, killer whales have been filmed tossing seals around for sport before finishing them off. But yes, this type of cruelty is exhibited by only the darkest of human beings.

Oh, and I DO wish theblaze would pick up on Weinergate – try putting it in the “Have a tip?” box at the bottom of the screen. I imagine they are waiting for facts and/or for Tuesday – the news cycle is a vacuum on weekends and holidays – that’s why the WH dumps all the bad news on Friday at 5:00pm – they hope it will die down by monday when people start paying attention again. So, it would be wise to put it in a headline on this TUESDAY when people are back from their long weekends. Sure, it is supposed to be about remembering those who have fallen on our behalf, but in reality, most people will just barbecue or go see Grandma.

When it comes to evil people doing evil things to innocent animals then I believe in an eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth. This type of things makes my blood boil! People who do this kind of thing do not deserve humain treatment but should be treated the very same way they treat animals. If that was done then I think we would see a lot less of this kind of treatment! Thank God I am not God for I would created something worse than hell for these people and those that kill innocent babies in abortion. Remember if you think I am wrong in this; Proverbs 8:13 “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil….” Not just dislike it, not tolerate it with displeasure, but to HATE it. treating animals like this and other forms of tourcher for whatever reason and especially the killing of the most innocent of children the unborn is evil, and while I do not condone anyone going out and killing another for evil to animals or the abortion doctors, I sure would make them suffer if I was God! I am not and I humbly thank Him and trust Him for Him to deal as He pleases with these people. I am not just and nor do I have the infinate grace and mercy He has. BUt still it makes my blood boil to read stuff like this. I thank God for those that treated this dog with kindness and got it treatment. I pray that it gets a home that will restore faith in humankind.

Isn’t it crazy to think that we have people living among us in society that are fully equipped with the personality and hatred to do something of this magnitude? In the near future, when civil unrest becomes too much for many to bear, acts like this will become more common, and unfortunately, they won’t stop at dogs.

Just because you regard animals not worthy to live does not mean they are not. I’m not saying they are of the same value of human beings but that’s not the issue here. The issue is whether that dog deserves to live and it obviously clung to life after such abuse. Yes, it deserves to live. We spend (our country, our government) spends money on FAR less worthy things than saving an animal. If you want to bark about spending go to Capitol Hill.

Today’s kids think going to school is a game, not for learning for a job or for higher education. Sad!

Democracy, there are people in this world who care about God’s creatures. If you were a dog and that had been your mother, would you still feel the same way?
Would you have liked being shot with pellets, your hands and feet tied, and buried up to your nose? I doubt it. But what if someone had found you and asked if you had insurance before they saved your sorry ass?
My dog is my ears and nose. He’s the man of the house. He will also bite you if you come to my door and I know it’s you, because he will hear the tone in my voice and he will have heard your vehicle in my driveway. He depends upon me, and I depend upon him.
That little dog in the story is a victim of animal cruelty. If you don’t understand that, you need to find another site. You’re disgusting to people who love animals.

up to their head in sand (after I’d shot them with 40 pellets) only I would make sure no one found them.
SORRY… I gues they won. Brought out the hate in us. EVIL is running wild in the world now. WHO WOULD DO THIS? I hope they find the bastards and do to them what they did to this dog. I know the dog will have a decent home.

Posted on May 30, 2011 at 3:44amHey everone agrees with equality, find out who they are, shoot them 40 times (non fatally of course, perhaps in the **** where it will only cause some brain damage). Then bury them up to their snouts. That way they get equal treatment with the dog.

Posted on May 30, 2011 at 3:59amI don’t understand why people do this to a domesticated animal—that WE domesticated. They are nothing but loyal to humans for the most part, and I agree with someone else’s comments, that the evil bastards should be dealt with. This story makes my heart hurt.

There really is something missing in the brain chemicals that could allow someone to be able to do this. They have no remorse or feeling, but I hope God sees that they get the kind of punishment that is needed.If the law gets them they will only serve year or two. They need a lot worse than that. I will pray that this animal will heal completely and I also will pray that the authorities find them and give them their punishment while God is deciding what to do with them. I hope they NEVER have another good nights sleep for all eternity.

I know we should value human life over that of animals but I will be honest, if I caught someone doing this to a dog I would have a strong sensation to put them down.
