It seems to me we are having trouble as a country precisely because we tried to be like the other nations. The progressive era brought European-style Fabian socialist ideas into America and we have been going downhill every since. Going back to the foundations of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence is the way out of the dilemma

Actually, some of his ideas are correct. We must change the tax code (Fair Tax). We must have longer terms and LIMIT THEM. We have to have Citizen Legislators. We NEED to go through the entire “US Code” (our Laws) and get rid of those that inhibit States from exercising THEIR rights. Shrink the Federal Government and bring our power back to the local level.

Fareed Zakaria and his little ideas became obsolete when Ronald Reagan became President of the USA and Margaret Thatcher became Prime Minister of the UK …. this reactionary nonsense that Zakaria spouts needs to be overcome so the world can get on with the business of building an economy.

Jesus was here to save our souls. He was not on earth to stir trouble or to cause a revolution. He was simply proclaiming God’s supremacy and mercy. And it was through Jesus’ sacrifice that our souls are saved. Do not put a label or political slogan on Christ because he was not here to meddle in man’s politics. He was here to open our minds and hearts to his Truth. In his own words he said “Render unto Caesar’s what is Caesar’s and render unto God what is God’s.” – Jesus Christ

Many Democrats and blasphemers will rush to claim that Jesus was a socialist. That he was not. He is God. And to paint him and/or associate him with a political cause or movement in any way form or fashion, is simply not right. Politics are for mere mortals.

Oh Please, Jesus was NOT a Socialist!

“All of the misery created over the last hundred and fifty years by socialist ideas stems from one single anti-Christian idea popularized by Karl Marx and his followers: you are a victim of the world you see.

Once you believe you are a victim of the world around you, you are likely to invent illusions of being oppressed or seeing an oppressed people, as Barack Obama and his church have done”.

Really Jesus a socialist. So he made man to depend upon the state for his needs and not God. He commands you to take the fruits of your neighbors labors and give it to those who will not employ their own God given talents to provide for their own needs. You are a fool, a bum, a thief, or all three. Did Jesus tell us to look to the wealthy and covet what they have and plunder it under the cover that this is now charity? Charity belongs to those who can not help themselves not those who will not help themselves. God commands the individual to look after the orphan, the widow, and the lame not the state. On the day of judgment the nations do not stand before God to give an account for what they have don or not done… MEN DO, women do, each one individually. You socialists will be the goats that say but didn’t I feed the poor. Socialism is idol worship and denies from men their God given talents to provide for their own needs and demands that men worship the state. It is not just despotic, it is demonic. You socialists deny from men their God given right of self determination and render Gods greatest creation, human free will, to be nothing more than drones to the state or parasites. And when men do not give the state their free will you will have them purged.

The US Constitution has a self defense mechanism built in it to protect it from enemies foreign and domestic. It can only protect itself if only the men and women that take the oath to defend it are honorable and true. Allen West would be one man that I would trust with this responsibility.
I would like someone to explain to america how Islam can co-exist with US Constitution?
The liberals spent their life separating religion(Christianity) from government.
But now they embrace Islam, which would controls everything in their lives?

What in God’s name could this clown be thinking, or smoking? Better? Better? Let me ask one question: name ANY OTHER country on this planet more than THIS ONE that people from all over the planet RISK THEIR VERY LIVES to get into, legally, or illegally, EVERY SINGLE DAY.

The U.S.A. is not perfect, certainly, but I can assure you that at the (social) pace it’s going, it is, and will continue to be, LESS perfect than it is, was, or was founded to be.

This kind of thinking falls under the “no good deed goes unpunished” category. I, for one, am sick to death of apologizing, and giving away the farm. The backbone of this country is pretty much done having its historically generous nature being chronically, exponentially taken advantage of.

Because of that pesky Constituition and 1865(Civil War) we have not had a war on our grounds except for atackers. The Civil War was all about greed, couldn’t give up them slaves, would have to put them on the payrole(black and white). You can count on your fingers a few countrys that has a track record like us and obama and this nut belittles us.

While I agree with your final sentiment, Turkey…. I take issue with your assertion that the Civil War was about greed and the South having to put slaves on the payroll. Remember, there were just as many abolitionists in the South as there were in the North. The shot from Fort Sumter was fired in protection of State’s Rights. While economics was central to the conflict, it wasn’t just labor — it was also that the Federal Government at the time was requiring Southern states to purchase manufactured goods from their Northern brothers in order to prop up the Northern economy. It was then, as it is now, the Federal government usurping state’s control in order to manipulate economic outcomes as it saw fit. Part of that manipulation was control over the labor force (e.g. slavery), but keep in mind that only a very small percentage of Southern land owners were slaveholders and the country didn’t go to war over that small percentage. Also, please remember that Lincoln while morally opposed to slavery didn’t emancipate the slaves as a moral declaration. Slaves were emancipated as part of political and military strategy to put an end to the war, not to right a wrong.

        @TURKY 13, AND GAMECOCK97

Gamecock was right on except for Lincoln being morally against slavery. Lincoln didn’t give a flying fig for slaves emancipation. The Emancipation Proclamation was a speech intended to start a slave rebellion in the south will the war was going on. But Lincoln as a figurehood for the freeing of slaves is just another example of how history gets changed to reflect the meme of the times. Growing up in Kentucky, I was always amazed how even the teachers here would get it wrong. As another strange fact of the Civil war, Quantrill, the famous guerilla fighter for the south, was from a staunch abolutionist family.

Lincoln knew slavery was morally wrong. He was interested in preserving the Union and letting slavery fall out of favor over time. It was inevitable that Americans came to terms with and turned against slavery, in fact this was already happening during Lincoln’s time. Lincoln did not feel as President it was his place to order Americans not to have slaves. In hindsight many folks tend to think Lincoln did not have a problem with slavery because he did not “order” it to stop. Well it ain’t that simple. The Emancipation Proclamation declared slaves in SECEDING CONFEDERATE states to be free and allowed recruiting those former slaves into the Union Army. This proclamation technically had little if any power but gave the Union Army something to help unite them.

Ironic, today we have a pResident dictator who thinks he can tell Americans what they can and cannot do. Lincoln did not think that way.

Lincoln is quoted in many places as against slavery. Here’s one quote from a Lincoln letter, you can find the original letter online:
“I am naturally anti-slavery. If slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong. I can not remember when I did not so think, and feel. And yet I have never understood that the Presidency conferred upon me an unrestricted right to act officially upon this judgment and feeling.”

Yes it is because we carry the responsibility, other countries can play their social games. I listened to a fool on NPR this week talking about how Canada’s foreign policy is one of business not military. That the US needs to learn that foreign policy is not military oriented. Well we could if someone else would protect us like we protect the world. Most of our allies spend little on defense because they know we’ll rescue them.
Yes, Fareed our tax code is a joke and you want to know who made it that way, the bleeding heart liberal progressives. Our number one and two problems right now are entitlements that constitutionally should have never been launched.
Our governance problem is that Congress believes, and the voters believe, that Congress should act on every issue every time there is a slight hiccup. This goes for the President as well. Are you listening voters. Stop demanding laws for everything.

Zakaria’s facts are correct, his conclusions are wrong. The tax code is a joke, Congress is a joke, the United States is a failing nation on the brink of collapse. The solution is not to copy the Europeans, the Canadians or the Chinese, the solution is to return to the Constitution, to limited government, to federalism, to states rights.

The moron is right about one thing this country is a mess, but that’s where the logic ends. The situation we’re in is from moving away from the constitution and joining monetarily with other countries and the world, so if they go down , we go down. The first thing we need to do is sever any relationship with the federal reserve, and world trade agreements that have removed most manufacturing from this country. Progressives has driven us into the ground with regulations, taxes, and big government grab for power, all positioning us further away from the constitution. Our need is to get an ax and start chopping, the EPA, the Education Department, Homeland Security, and many many more useless and over burdening Departments of regulations and squanderers of our taxes! Growing government and taking away our freedoms with regulation is not nor will ever be the answer!

Where he is incorrect is that the Constitution is still viable, if people like Barry, and the DEMOCRAT party follow it’s tenants. Just like a progressive. A whiner and complainer. I am thankful for the constitution, and I value it greatly. The founders were great men who deserve honor along with God for giving us a clue as to what some men would try to do if the constitution were not in place. The founders knew that men are eternally hungry for control and power and eventually this hunger would enslave the citizens of our country. This is why I have so much respect for the Constitution of the United States. It tries to keep the power of government in check by the citizens. It is also why I have such a unfavorable opinion of those who try to spit on and mock the constitution daily. IT IS A TELLING SIGN OF WHO THESE PEOPLE ARE !!!!!! The enemy is within the gates of our own country. I stand against them.

Although the basis for his argument is completely illogical and false, he is mostly right about the problems with the government and the tax code. Instead of returning to proven principles of American success he wants to further develop and progress a government that has way overstepped its bounds.

The constitution is like the bible ;you can interpret it any way you like and where you can’t you can ammend it.The most meaningless “meme” on the planet.Innocent till proven guilty [except if we really hate you then you're a "enemy combatant " or terrorist and can be shot on site.Due process for all except if you're a fetus then we just say you're not human and can be dismembered at will.Religious freedom for all except if we hate your religion then we say its not a religion and anyone who subcribers to it is existentiallty evil[as the Fox media machine says of islam] .Then we can pass laws prohibiting houses of worship for this “non-religion”.Five minutes after 9-11 we became a nation of surrender monkeys to our much tauted values. We previously bragged how we were better and different from all other human beings who ever existed on the face of the earth – 5 minutes after 9-11 we became rabid nationalsts and our much tauted yet never really tested “values” went out the window and made way for torture, indefinite detention, assassinations, ,intrutions in our private sphere and no longer able to travel freely unfettered by the government. The constitution is the most pompous, Rorsach test going.Changes are made by people in positions of power[media, courts and legislators] who may or may not follow the will of the people. They can change attitutes of the people through legislation, propaganda[media],agitation or the rulings of a handful of people on the supreme court

Everything that comes from the mouth of these people and many foreigners isn’t because they really dislike the founders, but because they must break you from your foundation and traditions in order for them to strip away the country and land from you. Fareed is a Muslim – that’s why he’s saying these things — and probably being used as one of the left’s media “tools”. As Glenn as said, they’re getting more bold and public with their beliefs. So that’s the good news and bad news. I’ll take it as good since it’s finally getting out in the open and people can make the necessary decisions to hopefully get rid of this dangerous problem.
Yes, of course – I agree that maybe some of his statements are true – but it’s only bc we’ve gotten away from the Consititution & our Christian roots…that’s what the Tea Party is about and why they hate them with a passion also. These people are irrational and have no common sense and are driven & helped by satan – but they’re stubbornly blind to all that. We must include them in our prayers for enlightenment/salvation/healing. I’m hearing from many missionraies around the world that Muslims are getting supernatural dreams about Jesus and are converting. That is the answer. Jesus is always …the…answer.

        @ROSE-ELLEN

1] The constitution is only open to liberal-progressives who want to further an agenda. IE. (the 2nd amendment does not give you a right to own a gun, or bullets. IE: The right to abortion is based on a ruling that cited a “shadow of a penumbra”.
2] The assumption of innocence is founded one of the most basic building blocks of logic, that you can’t prove a negative.
3] Enemy combatants have been treated much harsher in history. They were called spies, and shot summarily on the battlefield. As far as torture, see the comfy chair sketch by Monty Python.
4] Abortion: see we can agree on somethings. Its wrong to kill except in the protection of innocent lives. ( so what should we do with the “enemy combatants if you wouldn’t have us execute them? Life in prison seems like a good deal to me)
5] Islam is NOT a religion. It is a list of orders written by a 7th century pederast, on how you can do any evil man can think of, and pass it off as “religion” In the past 5 years, every rape in Norway has been committed by Muslim men. Islam condones pederasty, misogyny, slavery, usury, lying, killing, maiming, etc…
6] They can TRY to change our attitudes about freedom, I myself always thought Ben Franklin was right,” those who would give up a little liberty for a little security deserve neither liberty or security. (an armed society is a polite society {see 2nd amendment }).

        Fareed Zakaria said:

“So, I think that – it’s not just Congress, but – as a society, as a country, we have to ask ourselves, are we willing to accept that there’s a big world out there, other people know a lot about what’s going on, we are a successful parochial country, we are a large country with two vast oceans, two weak neighbors, with a history of success; Those are bad conditions from which to learn. We’re like IBM or General Motors in 1975.”

Fareed acks like our Founders didn’t have these discussions at length.

The fact is that our Founders had brilliant minds, were well-read, were historians (and were quite aware of the argument for what we call Communism, and of the tactics of agitation, by the way).

They discussed Montesquieu and the Republic of Lycia (Federalist Papers #10).

They discussed the turbulent democracies of ancient Greece and then modern Italy which were offered as examples to dissuade them from forming our proposed Republic, saying “Under the confusion of names, it has been an easy task to transfer to a republic observations applicable to a democracy only;” (Federalist Papers #14).

They discussed the Monarchial, Democratic, and Republican forms of government as it relates to their ability to preserve the freedoms of their citizens; both the Monarchial and Democratic forms fail – which is why we are not a Democracy (Federalist Papers #48).

And they allude to the “pestilent effects of paper money” (Federalist Papers #44).

This man can’t appreciate the greatness of the people that founded this country nor will he embrace it because it has nothing to do with his people or his culture. And I challenge him to find another country inwhich the people actually hold the reigns of government. Sure lots of country say it but ours is the only one with it written in our charter of government. More over if you look at the heart of what is destroying our country morally, economicly and corrupting the government it all has one thing in common Progressive/Socialist legislation and amendments. Not one of principles on which this country was founded.

        Fareed Zakaria said:

“We’ve really got to ask ourselves why can’t we do best practices – businesses do it all the time.”

Federalist Papers #10 is ALL ABOUT best practices.

        They said of factions:

“There are two methods of curing the mischiefs of faction: the one, by removing its causes; the other, by controlling its effects.

“There are again two methods of removing the causes of faction: the one, by destroying the liberty which is essential to its existence; the other, by giving to every citizen the same opinions, the same passions, and the same interests.

“It could never be more truly said than of the first remedy, that it was worse than the disease. Liberty is to faction what air is to fire, an aliment without which it instantly expires. But it could not be less folly to abolish liberty, which is essential to political life, because it nourishes faction, than it would be to wish the annihilation of air, which is essential to animal life, because it imparts to fire its destructive agency.

“The second expedient is as impracticable as the first would be unwise. As long as the reason of man continues fallible, and he is at liberty to exercise it, different opinions will be formed.”

        …

“The inference to which we are brought is, that the causes of faction cannot be removed, and that relief is only to be sought in the means of controlling its effects.”

That’s exactly the problem …they create all these problems, then say they want to fix them with more of the same laws and policies that created them … and those who don’t pay attention … believe them, just because they say it. It amazes me, how many people have an opinion, without knowing what it is they are expressing an opinion on. And what makes this Fareed think he can comment on the success of the republic we have built, that his kind are trying to destroy … I would expect nothing else to come out of his mouth … I’m just surprised people listen to a foreign muslim. Fareed is the result of the 1965 Immigration Act probably the 2nd most detrimental piece of legislation to the Constitution ever passed in America. It has never worked in the history of mankind and is certain not to work here in America.

        @techengineer11,

“Thanks for the thoughtful comments. The situation really looks hopeless to me.”

As has always been the case, if we can claim to be able to argue the case for our Constitutional Republic as our Founders did, and as Glenn Beck implores America to do, then we can still change minds.

Our Founders have already argued the merits of our Republic over Monarchies and Democracies, and we have plenty of resources from the Austrian school of Economics.

The most powerful thing the Collectivists have over us is that we are currently stupid ignoramouses – and that’s our fault that we can’t argue these things. It’s our fault we hate to argue with people because it’s “impolite”.

The United States as our Founders set it up is the BEST form of government – we just don’t know why, and our ignorance of the dangers of central planning will destroy us like it did many other countries before us.

We constantly profess to be superior politically, economically, religiously, etc. Yet our investment in weapons and intrusion into numerous sovereign countries and constant ignorant comments about all religions other than Christianity make us increasingly look like 18th. and 19th century England. The world has shown us that it can’t be colonized by capitalism, western culture, Christianity even when it is cloak within a military action. Time for the US to worry about and invest in itself and leave the rest of the world to be what they will be. If they attack us or a non-deserving ally then we should respond quickly and harshly. That will work much better than our made up ideological and capitalistic pseudo wars.

A Doctors Labor Is Not My Right: I didn’t know from your posts that you were a Paul supporter. I steered away from him in the last election because of his stance on Abortion. I do believe that our Founding Fathers had a moral code in which guided them in Governing and that code was Christianity; hence, the reason Abortion was illegal for some 300 odd years here in America.

Regardless like you said there are much bigger fish to fry now.. We have to get back to the Constitution if we are to slow down this push towards collectivism.

The reason our Constitution is great is because it was written by common men who were imperfect
and seldom agreed with each other. It was an attempt by common man to rule himself. Our
Constitution was not perfect then (18th cent.) and it is not perfect now, but I am not being held here
        against my will.

What Fareed doesn’t understand is that Americans don’t want to be governed by an elite self-righteous all-knowing self-appointed ruling class. We now share that in common with
the rest of the world and we need to rid our gov’t of these people.

        But, wherever a man goes,
        men will pursue
and paw him with their dirty institutions,
        and, if they can,
        constrain him to belong
        to their desperate odd-fellow society.

We already are “better” than other countries. Thats’ why everyone wants to come to America. The Constitution and the love of it, the principles and ideals that this nation were founded upon are the reason that WE are – the strongest, bravest, most prosperous nation on Earth. The nutcase should go somewhere else.

WE need people in office who have AMERICAN VALUES, Principles, and Traditions. VOTE the othhers out – from City Hall to the Halls of Congress and get people in there that have these American Values.

We constantly profess to be superior politically, economically, religiously, etc. Yet our investment in weapons and intrusion into numerous sovereign countries and constant ignorant comments about all religions other than Christianity make us increasingly look like 18th. and 19th century England.”

Nation-building was never our Founders’ goal. I used to figure that it was ok to directly protect other countries from the oppressions of central planning (Marxism, Communism, Sharia, etc.), but I now see that as a sovereign nation, the United States must also respect the sovereignty of other nations (This is why Ron Paul wouldn’t have gone into Pakistan to capture/kill bin Laden).

“The world has shown us that it can’t be colonized by capitalism, western culture, Christianity even when it is cloak within a military action.”

Capitalism isn’t something that can “colonize” – Capitalism is simply the freedom to be as resourceful as you can be without violating the inalienable rights of another. This is true even without regard to foreign trade.

A country can be completely isolationist AND Capitalist, which would be great for every country that did at least that.

        @JRook,

        (continued from prior post)

Further, Capitalism does NOT entail so-called “international patents” – that is actually a violation of national sovereignty. I, for one, have no problem with other countries reverse engineering our products and then attempting to sell them back to us at a cheaper price.

“Time for the US to worry about and invest in itself and leave the rest of the world to be what they will be. If they attack us or a non-deserving ally then we should respond quickly and harshly. That will work much better than our made up ideological and capitalistic pseudo wars.”

I pretty much agree, though I have to reiterate that Capitalism works for everyone, and that it is NOT Capitalism to violate another country’s sovereignty (because trade, then, isn’t free, but forced); AND that it’s not exploitation to engage in Capitalist free trade with other countries.

“Clearly his frame of reference is Europe, which has been chastened by history more than America, and has never been in constitutional lockdown, so to speak. Switzerland, maybe: a free society, a heavily capitalist economy, a broad democracy, a federal system, numerous minorities, like us, but not so worshipful of itself and not accustomed to being the boss of everyone.”

Constitutional lockdown is a GOOD thing, because it slows the spread of factions, as our Founders noted.

        Federalist Papers #10:

“If a faction consists of less than a majority, relief is supplied by the republican principle, which enables the majority to defeat its sinister views by regular vote. It may clog the administration, it may convulse the society; but it will be unable to execute and mask its violence under the forms of the Constitution.”

And our Founders never intended for the United States to throw its weight around, but to respect the sovereignty of other nations. Neither our Constitution, nor Capitalism, is to blame for the perceived faults of the United States, which you mention.

Blame the Progressive’s Marxist ideas of protectionism under the guise of Anti-Trust, and their deliberate misinterpretation of the Commerce Clause, for our businesses setting up in other countries to escape their assault on our economic liberties.

However, if Fareed Zakaria is a naturalized citizen or living in the USA with a resident visa, he took a sworn oathe to preserve, protect and defend the US Constitution that he is publically ridiculing and promoting it’ destruction. If Zakaria is not a natural born citizen why hasn’t he been arrested and deported for breaking his sworn oath and calling for insurrection in America ?

So true! The problem with the country is because of the centralized corruption that exists. Progressives have their greedy hands in everything and have totally fouled the system from the top to the bottom. Less regulation and more power must be given to the individual. Its not the people that are the problem its the Govt.

Fareed is a jackass! Its a God inspired thing that most other people will never get. They can “claim” to be Americans but their only goal is to try and break US down and make us into some other loser Nation. Aint gonna happen pal. ONE NATION UNDER GOD! Living as FREE MEN. Our Nation was establshed by God to be the light and hope of the world. Our history shows His Holy blessings upon ths Nation. SaD THAT Obama does not get that because he is NOT a Christian. He may show up for Church services for photo ops but He and the Fareeds of the world will never understand what Amercia and her strength truly is. The day we as a FREE people stop beleving in Christ, we wll reap the destruction these kind of people seek. God Bless the United States with Famlies that still seek Him.
