Ohio Restaurant Closes One Week After Obama Mentions it in Speech

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio restaurant mentioned last week by President Barack Obama as an indirect beneficiary of the government’s Chrysler bailout will go out of business Sunday after a more than 70-year history.

Co-owner Richard Lawrence of New Chet’s Restaurant in Toledo says business has fallen victim to the economy and the workplace smoking ban approved by Ohio voters in 2006. He told The Blade newspaper of Toledo on Wednesday that auto industry cutbacks also hurt.

Lawrence says he used to deliver up to $300 in food per week to Chrysler Group LLC’s Jeep plant in Toledo, but now that’s down to about $100 worth.

Obama visited the plant on Friday and told workers that without them, who would eat at Chet’s or patronize other local businesses?

“And this plant indirectly supports hundreds of other jobs right here in Toledo,” President Obama said to hundreds of workers in Chrysler’s Wrangler plant. ”After all, without you, who’d eat at Chet’s or Inky’s or Rudy’s?”

Well, that’s “Hope” and “Change” for you. Our power-hungry president Barack Obama supports a financially-strapped small business, and not too long after that, it closes up shop. It’s all part of his Marxist/Communist blueprint. Mr. Obama wants the American folks to become unwaveringly dependant on those taxpayer-draining handouts so that he and his partner-in-crime, the government, will be able to maintain their unconstitutional rule of law. No wonder I’ll always view him as the most gigantic red herring we’ve ever had as President.

With a black silk handkerchief covering his face Barack Hussein Obama carefully stepped backwards toward his tide up pony only a few feet away. With a gun in each hand Barack was about out of time and attempted to hang his pouch of gold across his saddle bow. Barack let loose a parting volley of bullets towards the patriots and galloped off through the darkened streets of Washington D.C.
Barack galloped across the prairie trails and tried to lead the pursuing patriots into the river bottom. Through the night Barack led the patriots lower and lower to the bottom and their ending.
In some dramatic and hopeless struggle one patriot turned his horse sharply and simply turned onto a new path. The desperado Barack was now holding up at the river’s edge and held up his black hat as a false lure and the hazardous bullets could be heard in the darkness.
The patriot was tired of hard riding and was ready for hard fighting. As still as a gunman the patriot could see the shooter they called Barack. The other patriots lay flat in the weeds and try to dodge Barack’s bullets as one patriot raised up, seemingly not afraid and held up the U.S. Constitution.
Barack knew it was over as he had failed to burn the constitution as originally planned.

Here’s a reply to the smoking ban in restaurants. First, I’m a smoker for 40 years and still light up. Secondly, I was also a restaurant manager/owner and converted my Florida unit to non-smoking. Business picked up by more than 30% and the place was cleaner for it. As a customer in a restaurant setting, if you can’t go out to eat inside a place without having to light up you’re a loser. You need a lot of work if you can’t wait 30-45 minutes without nicotine. Also, restaurants have limited tables and rely on table turnover, we really “love” people that sip on their coffees and read the entire newspaper for hours. Ever hear of a library or park bench? I wish people would outlaw tobacco in the USA…. we’d all be healthier and richer.

  @Fragglerk – I agree with everything you just said. Smoking kills, eating at a restaurant, or drinking in a bar, that allowed smoking, sucked. Neither am I a smoker. Once, I was trapped for fifteen hours on a grounded flight to Seoul, Korea with 275 other G.I.s – and they all smoked. It is a wonder I am alive to this day. But the known hazards of smoking is not the issue. It is the government response to smoking/smokers, and the restriction to the rights of the people, that is in question. In the end, the Smoking Ban(s) was initiated to gain power and control over Individual Private Property Rights. Walter Williams explains it best.

another little fast food restaurant hit the bricks and closed in the modest town nearest us, 45 miles away. for years it was a ‘treat’ to go there on farm store day.. and none of us can afford to anymore.
——– according to Flotus the Wonder Sow, we are wasting away out here in a ”food desert”. obama plans to sign a RURAL COUNCIL to tell us how we should live in rural America. what we should do, what we should eat. yet we are standing here looking at our significant herd of beef cattle right now, and our drive home is flanked by red wheat, corn and soy, and other farms with victory gardens like ours all the way. . obama has stabbed America in the back so many different ways already, he just hasn’t been able to finish us off yet. maybe the signs on both ends of America’s heartbelt towns should go back up. we can modernize them. DON’T LET THE SUN SET ON YOUR (NANNY BUTT) IN THIS TOWN”.
