Video Shocker: Puerto Rican Protestors Greet President Obama by…Burning the American Flag

President Barack Obama’s trip to Puerto Rico earlier today was significant for a variety of reasons. Obama is the first U.S. president to visit the country in a half-century. With courting Latino voters likely to be a campaign priority next year, the trip has very clear political implications for the president.

But, his visit was significant for another reason: It coincided with the Independence Party’s public burning of the American flag. According to the party’s official web site:

Puerto Rico has been a colony of the United States since 1898, as a result of the Spanish-American War. As part of that War, the United States Armed Forces invaded Puerto Rico on July 25, 1898. Puerto Ricans are still struggling to attain sovereignty and independence.

That’s code for: Puerto Rican separatist group. Below, watch what appears to be party loyalists burn the American flag to shreds:

There’s always been an independence faction in PR. Tried to kill Harry Truman. So give them independence – they immediately apply for couple of billion in foreign aid which the US just can’t wait to pay them and with regular payments live happily ever after on their island in the sun. You’d be crazy not to want independence.

I saw the headline on the homepage and thought it was a teaser. Today is flag day and my shop is next door to a Legion. They were burning flags all day. But this story is really about the desecration of OUR flag.

Cut off funding and let them live the lives they want to.

My wife is Puerto Rican. She explains to me that the feelings of a lot of Puerto Ricans is complicated with regard to the relationship between the US and PR. What can we say, they are conquered territory and they have the right to their opinions. Most Puerto Ricans feel ignored by the mainland and either want to be a state or independent. The status quo won’t do any more.

  I’m confused. I have extended family who are Puerto Rican who have lived in NY for decades. They would NEVER burn our American flag. Truly, I do not understand why so much hate for America that they would burn our American flag!

  Incredible is that there are latinos who really believe this guy wants some improvement in their lives. Can any latin point to a black politician who did anything for the immigrant community? I mean one good deed? Just show me.

If they want independence so bad, why don’t they become their own country. That is right, they want to free load off of the states. I know some puerto ricans and they are pretty cool people. They automatically get U.S Citizenship. Why are they complaining, they don’t pay no federal income tax.

  I’m not too sure that they do not pay some kind of tax in Puerto Rico. IRS has 2 offices on the island so they must be collecting something. I know that they have customer service functions in the 2 offices so taxes must be being paid for something.

  No wonder democrats say that republicans are racist. As some of you act like such. Puerto Rico voters are 48% pro-statehood, 48% pro-commowealth and 4% pro-independence. You cannot tell that pr’s hate the US based on a minority composed of college students and commies. More puertoricans have died in US wars per capita, since WWI than an other state of the nation. They live better than most states of the Union. Obama thnks he will get a democratic vote from the people of PR. Funny as most are conservative. The people of PR will never be independent as are proud to be american citizens as well as puerto ricans. They do have sovereignty of their island. Educate yourself or maybe take a trip overthere and you will learn how this small super race has made themselves stand out over most in the world throughout history. Specially you Brasil2520! Most islanders dissassociate themselves from Newyoricans for the bad reputation they have given to the islanders.
  Also the US invaded Puerto Rico after Puertoricans begged for help to get rid of the tyranical domain of Spain. Go back to School! They have been the US concubine for 113 years, the oldest colony in the world. The US needs PR as much as PR needs the US. They are as american as any of you, so be carefull to whom you direct your hate to. This people has been very loyal to the US specially when they dont get to vote for president unless they are living in the US, eventhough he sends their children to war at will.

  Puerto Rico has more people on welfare and food stamps than any of the fifty states. We should grant them independence and save all that wefare money. A couple of years trying to support themselves and feed their people might just remind them how good they had it. I believe they would miss the US citizenship that comes with being a territory. Obama would like to make them a state, (the Dems tried it a few years ago), because he thinks they would all vote democratic.

  I’m shocked that anyone would think that Barry would be offended by anyone burning an American Flag. He probably felt they were doing it in his honor. As far as Puerto Rico is concerned, cut them loose and let them make it on their own. If they find their status as a commonwealth is too onerous then GO.   Gee, that is a shocker. I heard three or four protesters clap to the speaker. Puerto Rico has four million people. And yet these FOUR people, out of four million, seem to be protesting against America. I take that for granted because I don’t understand Spanish, and have no clue what the guy was saying and neither do you. But the Blaze gets the video and you think those four people speak for the other four million are also against Obama.
  
  But okay, let say 10 people out of four million protested Obama’s visit. That’s .00025% of the population of Puerto Rico’s population. I doubt there is a single other country on Earth with so little disrespect for the United States of America. Based on the evidence here, the country loves President Obama.
  
  It’s a sad commentary on education in America that you guys accept this kind of video as evidence that the good people of Puerto Rico dislike Obama.

  Anyone who missed the Money Pit with John Stossel on Fox News Sunday night should definitely try and check it out when they can. It’s very informative about how the current Governor in Puerto Rico has taken some majorly drastic changes much further right than any Governor here in the US could ever make (including WI). It took a big chunk out of their debt and really cut down on Government employee’s and spending, but some are becoming aware that the changes made to the country are in fact a good thing. It has brought in a ton of new jobs and is keeping their finances stable so they won’t go bankrupt.
  
  Oh, and on a side note the first thing the new Governor cut was his salary. From what I heard on the show I would prefer him to be the President of the United States over any other candidate running currently.
