If you thought the controversy surrounding NBC’s editing of the Pledge of Allegiance was over, think again.
While the network officially apologized for cutting out the words “under God” from a recitation it aired during the U.S. Open, a new debate is raging. Earlier this month, in a radio interview, Missouri congressman and GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin said the following:
Well, I think NBC has a long record of being very liberal and at the heart of liberalism really is a hatred for God and a belief that government should replace God. And so they’ve had a long history of not being at all favorable toward many of things that have been such a blessing to our country.These powerful works have liberals enraged.
Liberals have since demanded an apology, with ThinkProgress (TP) publishing its own rebuttal to the politician’s statements. According to TP, Akin does not plan on backtracking on his statements:
Akin’s communications director, Steve Taylor, told the [St. Louis Post-Dispatch] that Akin was commenting on a difference between the two ideas: while conservatives believe rights come from God, liberals think they come from the government. Taylor said Akin was not referring to any individual’s beliefs, only the “defining principles of two political ideologies.”
TP quotes a number of religious leaders who have come forward to rebuke Akin’s comments. Among them is Vicky Trippe, a voting rights activist. Trippe takes particular issue with the notion that leftists do not embrace faith, saying, “It’s because of my faith in God that I’m a Liberal Democrat.”

Scientists can’t explain first effect and I’m not talking about the big bang theory( it is a theory). Where did matter come from, did it magically appear in the vacuum of space. Atleast the Bible has a explination. Yes there is evidence for both creation and evolution. Read books your proffesors don’t or did’nt want you to read. Anyway the brilliance of our founders knew if they put our rights in the hands of God these power hungry men couldn’t get there hands on them and instilling in the people to fight for what has been given to them.

I am an agnostic atheist, because I have no knowledge of gods, hence I do not believe in them. Personally, I’m not sure it’s actually hatred of God so much as it’s a desire to cut God out of the material world, & their public, daily life. I’ve plenty of liberal friends who believe in God but he’s not very high on their priority list & certainly not part of their public life.

Those are philosophies that have replaced God with self. If there is a God then there are absolutes, there is good and evil, right and wrong. If there are such things then one is answerable to that higher power. But as they have rejected God they are only answerable to themselves. Hence, for example, their ability to knowingly lie to demonize conservatives as racist, bigot homophobes to advance their agenda. And if you were to make a list of moral issues you would probably find progressives and conservatives on opposite side there as well. Consider recent current events. When that Republican House member came under scrutiny for whatever sordid, unsavory thing he texted or tweeted, he was gone in one day. It took Anthony Weiner what, a month to finally come clean and go away? And that was only after he became a liability to the party.
No, Congressman Akin, if they can stand in front of cameras and with a straight face lie and slander, de-humanize and demonize us, then they certainly don’t deserve an apology when you have spoken the truth.
And one more thing, Rep. Akin must have really struck a nerve with that comment or Think Progress would not be screaming for an apology.

Jun. 27, 2011 at 8:54pmWe had a friend in our prayer group who was a liberal. The lot of us were in agreement on ALL the issues except for her. She was like the square peg. She was the only one of us who did not regularly give to at least one charity because she believed the government was there to take care of the poor. We kept confronting her about her way of thinking being socialistic and completely in opposition to God. We knew she was not saved.
Thank you for bringing this up. I haven’t thought about her in a while and because of your reminder, I will keep her in prayer.

I agree with what Akin says, except I’d replace ‘hate’ with ‘do not know’ God. God, to them, is how they imagine Him to be – by their own measure of justice and/or love.
Before I was a Christian, it was difficult to decipher what was right or wrong. I struggled with many social issues. I didn’t want to condemn or judge (liberal speak), yet it seemed wrong so I did not know where to stand (on homosexuality, the ‘right’ to die, etc). Almost immediately after accepting Christ, it was like a veil had been lifted – like I was given the answer sheet to the test questions. What an experience.
God is who He is. We are the ones that need to be molded like clay by the potter.

Just so. Perhaps to illustrate my point a question would better serve. Have you ever done something that at the time you believed to be right, only to find out later that you were wrong because you misunderstood what it was you should do? That is something I have frequently discovered amongst my liberal Christian friends. They misunderstand charity as the simple act of taking money from your pocket and giving it to another. Of course it is deeper than that, but based on that understanding then they move to support that as a matter of governmental policy. What they miss is that while God asked the rich man to give away his wealth, He did not ask Abraham or David. Because it is not a simple matter of the transfer of wealth, it is the position of the heart. And that is the central problem with liberal Christians. A lack of deeper understanding of Scriptural teachings. Doctrine, as it were. I do not doubt they mean well, as many young in the faith do, but that their training in the faith is lacking. The people I have met are without a doubt Christians, but have some distance to go in the knowledge of their faith. But thankfully, God doesn’t judge us by how well we understand Him, for then we would all be condemned, but by our hearts.
I’m not excusing the actions they are taking, just trying to understand them.

We should hate sin and love the sinner, what happened to that? Please, take a few seconds and remember that you are God’s representative. He will excercise judgement on His own and without our help. Thank you. Yes, that is the issue. It is not the issue of the person, it is the issue of the idea. And there we take our stand. Not against people, but against an idea. And there we must be ready with an answer. Attacks and questions will come. The spirit of the movement is clearly taking a turn and becoming more transparent as time passes. As it does we can illustrate what is behind it. But please my friend, we need to stand against another idea as well. Pride. It is clearly showing it’s face on our side, and we cannot hope for God’s blessing while exhibiting a vengeful arrogance. I have a great deal of friends who say they are liberals and they are God fairing. They are church goers and would give you the shirt of their own back. But at the same time they call themselves liberals, I can’t see them actually being liberal because of their beliefs. The are against Abortion, but for choice… seems a little misguided. They are against Gay Marriage and have friends they are supportive. They want fiscal responsibility but think you can’t take away the huge safety nets because people will die and never grow. They are a black family that through their own experiences knows that there is a mentality that some have that they will never get out of the situation they are in. I think this is sad because it is the liberals that are keeping them poor and not advancing. It those shovelling them welfare that never give them the chance to get out of that mentality.

Best we can hope for:
1) Speak your opinion from your heart…as long as you have the facts and sound judgement first.
2) Ignore that opinion when you are deciding for & voting for your constituents…you represent them and not yourself.
3) When you are wrong…admit it. Whether it is the same day, a month later or a year later. I’d rather back a politician accused of “flip-flopping” because new info has altered his opinion and he says so…rather than one who sticks to what he said like glue…no matter the evidence to the contrary which comes to light.

I think this comment is careless and tries to paint with too broad a brush. If the truth has no agenda we must objectivley look at the reason people embrace liberalism and not just the liberal ideology itself.
Some actually believe that they are doing what’s right for humanity by growing the government and supporting redistribution of wealth. They think it is honorable and caring. I disagree with them but I wouldn’t say that hating God is at the core of their ideology.

Jun. 27, 2011 at 9:11pmWhile I like that the man stood up and said what he believes, I have to disagree with him. Partially. There is definitely a hatred for God that exists on the left. However, there are also many people who love God on the left as well. I do not think for a moment that these people hate God. I have met and spoken with many of them. Remember coopting the church is one of the moves the left is making. It goes beyond the obvious examples like Rev Wright’s church. The Methodist Church is a good example. One of the biggest problems in our church today is the lack of teaching from a theological standpoint. Many Christians do not understand the why beneath God’s commandments. Ignorance is no excuse, but it should make us compassionate to their plight. If we claim to follow Christ, shouldn’t we try and make our love the first thing others see in us? And isn’t that the way to convince those who are sincerely trying to do what’s right?

What I learned was that when you go to Heaven, everyone is equal and everyone is relieved of the motivations that corrupt the world: hatred, anger, greed, avarice, territoriality, bigotry. That’s the view of Heaven I have.
In church, I learned that Christ spoke of helping the poor and disadvantaged. Christ spoke of giving up your wealth, saying, “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.” -Matthew 6:24
Yet Republicans and evangelicals seem to have the opposite view of the words of Christ. The single defining difference between the right and left is who the policy supports, does it support the richest in our country? Or does it support the poor and middle class?
Yes, in Heaven the right says, everyone is equal. But here on Earth we want we support the rich. And we let the poor live in slums, starve, have no access to medical care (Planned Parenthood) and die.
The divide between the rich and and the rest of us is getting larger and larger, further and further from the Christian view of Heaven. Why would God have one thing in Heaven and the exact opposite on Earth? No, Democrats don’t “hate God.” They are much closely aligned with the teachings of Christ than the Republicans.

• Personal responsibility
• Free markets
• Returning political power to the states and the people
aren’t left or right or dem or repub. They’re what freedom loving people desire. ActuallyMt. 12:33-37 says that we are also judged by our words.
33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? Something to remember especially if you are a believer. I wouldn’t go calling liberals evil with such a broad brush. Some are, some aren’t. Heck some people claiming Christ are evil Jesus said “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’

Progressives count such groups as the Communist Party USA and the Socialist Party USA as allies and fellow-travelers…just look at the sponsors and backers at the “Restoring Sanity” (HA!) rally. Communists and Socialists always seek to suppress/eliminate/co-opt religion, as it competes with the State for power over the individual.
American Progressives seem to combine all the very worst characteristics of Socialism, Fascism, and Communism, so it should be no great surprise that suppression/elimination/co-opting of religion is a central tenant in their ideology.
It’s actually quite a logical tactical & strategic goal from the Progressives’ viewpoint. It’s hard to create a violent, reactionary, and unprincipled mob to overthrow a Democratic Republic from the ranks of a moral, God-fearing people. Therefor, religion *MUST* be stamped out in order for Progressives to assume absolute control.

And Jesus never said you had to “give up your wealth” to serve Him. It’s a matter of the heart, not a matter of how much or how little you have. In fact, there are several occasions in the bible in which you should be prospering (the parable of the talents, and a man that does not work does not eat are 2 that come to mind).
As far as Republican versus Democrat and who lines up with Christianity more closely–what a stupid concept. It’s got nothing to do with party lines. The teachings of Christ and of God throughout the bible are pretty clear and if you’re not personally lined up with that then what difference does it make what political affiliation you are.

They reject the depravity of mankind and believe that people on their own can improve society through a wise, powerful government. Most of this is antithetical to Christianity which states that man is without hope except for the Savior and obedience to Scripture. Lefties hate that! ALL of us hate that until we submit to it, and even then we want to reject it because we are sinful. Remembere, these people are brothers and sisters who do not yet know and submit to Christ. Always remember that. They are not our enemy, the just need Jesus. Like we all do. 8)

Jun. 28, 2011 at 12:36pmJZS, like a lot of people who sat in a church while a child, tend to have a distorted view of the Scriptures they didn’t read. Christ spoke a lot about money, but is never seen giving money to the poor. The reason he told one rich man to sell all he owned, was Christ knew his heart. If you read that Scripture, you find that Christ discussed only 6 of the commandments, and not the first ones about loving God. This is because the rich man loved money, and got his security from what he owned, not from God. Jesus’s challenge was to show the man where he had failed to love God with all his heart, mind, strength, and soul.
I’d ask JZS to read the parable of the talents, and try to square that message with what JZS perceives as an edict to give everything away. It can’t be done. The two ideas are at odds, and it isn’t Christ who has the wrong idea. A Christian can be blessed with riches, but must always be aware how those riches can replace a love of God. The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. But, money is not evil.

Jun. 28, 2011 at 3:29pmYou know what amazes me is that if you read the comments left by the liberals bashing this representative’s statements they say that liberals act out the commands of Jesus better than conservatives because liberals are for social programs that help the down and out. Jesus never said that the government should help the down and out but the church (Christians) should help people. It is easier to say, “I don’t have to help that person because I pay taxes and the government is helping them”, as opposed to helping the needy with my own resources because I am fullfilling Jesus’ command as a Christian. They are using the government as a cop-out so that they don’t feel any responsibility to “love your neighbor as yourself”. The result of the so called Christians relying on the government to help those in need is that the “Church” has lost it’s effectiveness. Who do people go to for help now? They go to the government. They used to go to the “Church”.
