A teenager in Newport Beach, Calif. digging a hole at the beach is in good condition after five feet of sand collapsed on top of him, burying him for nearly 30 minutes Wednesday.
According to the Orange County Register, paramedics and lifeguards got the call at 3:38 p.m. that the sand had caved in over him. About 40 emergency services personnel and beachgoers frantically dug through the sand to find the teen:
Resident Skip Snead told the Register he was driving home when he saw fire and police cars by the beach and he rushed over to see what was happening. He saw everyone digging, looking for a limb or other sign of life, with hundreds of spectators watching.
“Everybody was thinking, ‘They’re going to pull up a dead body,’” Snead said.
Beachgoers cheered when he was extricated after almost half an hour and moved his body and showed he was alive. He was transported to a local hospital.
“Everyone went crazy,” Snead said. “I think he was in shock.”
According to the OC Register, a 7-year-old boy died in a similar incident about 20 years ago. In 2006, a 13-year-old survived after being trapped under sand as well.

I am so proud of everyone of these human beings in America. This is who the true Americans are. Never give up fighting for an unknown human being they didn’t even know. Amazing miracle with their help. Thanks god their prayers were heard.
I also believe it now is time to stop the charity nonprofit expenses of person who have obtain the presidential seat and are very hurtful and damaging to all Americans sent the bill from us. The party is over that we funded. Excavate party forward..

Aug. 4, 2011 at 3:24pmAlthough this was a dumb idea to dig a hole that big in unstable sand I have to say I’m glad to see a 17 year old doing something physical. It seems to me that these days you will find most 17 year olds sitting on their arsses playing video games or on social network. This was like the good old days when kids did dumb stuff like get caught stuck up in a tree when they climbed up too high. Glad the kid is ok.

Aug. 4, 2011 at 3:20pmI’ve experienced this. When I was 11, a friend and I saved my 10 yr old cousin and his friend after they were buried. They were digging a cave in the side of a pile of construction sand and it collapsed on them. Lucky we came by about 5 minutes before it happened.

Aug. 4, 2011 at 8:47pmYYR – How many women were digging? Were they just running around in circles, or continuing to work on their tan? As long as it wasn’t the guy who was going to buy them dinner, no need for them to get involved.

Aug. 4, 2011 at 3:02pmThat second video ends with the statement “this teen survived… others not so lucky… don’t be like the others…”
What others does this guy refer too? Is this an epidemic at beaches?
Anyway, glad that kid survived and heart warming to see so many bystanders digging frantically to find him for so long.

Aug. 4, 2011 at 3:02pmActually no. You probably read that on Huffington Post or some other propaganda outlet. What we want is for the Government to provide necessary services at a local level that is competitive with the cost of the private sector. We want social programs to have checks and balances to ensure the Government officials are not just trying to reach quotas and are using the money to actually give a hand up and not a hand out. We want local, State and Federal Government to have to operate on a BALANCED budget just like what we would have to in our own homes. (That means they can’t spend more than they take in, just in case that’s difficult for you to understand.) We want all branches of Government to operate with complete transparency so we can monitor what they do behind closed doors. That’s reasonable to expect, wouldn’t you say?

Aug. 4, 2011 at 2:58pmEncinom please present one shread of proof what you claim about the Tea Party.
Isnt the tbagers position……………
If you dont know the position why not find out truth instead of incindiary comments. As a tea party attendee I understand fully we need goverment, but a LIMITED governemnt. Why do so many on the left think we want ALL government removed from our lives?
Anyway, the tea party has their focus on Federal Government. Its state and local government that provides Fire services so trying to link the tea party to your agrument is week at best!

Aug. 4, 2011 at 4:50pmFiremen let house burn over &57.00 fee, by Glenn Beck, Tuesday, Oct 5, 2010 at 2:52 PM EDT
“…this fire went on for hours because garden hoses just wouldn’t put it out. It wasn’t until that fire spread to a neighbor’s property that the fire department would respond. It turns out the neighbor had paid the fee”

Aug. 5, 2011 at 8:54amEncinom, I still don’t see your point. The fire issue is common in a lot of rural areas where you pay a fee is you want the fire department to try to save your house if its on fire. These are usually volunteer departments and the money is used to supplement the government money that some of them get or to buy equipment if they get no government money. Beck was simply stating the facts. He was not applauding the fact that the firemen watched it burn. This is the last time I will read one of your posts. It is a waste of my time (unless you want to pay me $75/year, then I will read them all!

Aug. 4, 2011 at 2:58pmI love Newport Beach, frequented by Conservatives (who do not allow socialist leeches and excessive government services) and it is much more upscale than some other California beaches. The Emergency Rescue Team and Lifeguards are all private contractors, and they hand you a bill after saving your life. They are called the Hassel-Hoofs.
If you do not pay, they can take you to Civil court (but cannot kill you or beat you yet).
