If you haven’t yet heard about the now-infamous “Have you had sex with Rick Perry” advertisement, you may want to catch yourself up. To summarize: Self-proclaimed Ron Paul supporter Robert Morrow placed a disparaging ad targeting Texas Gov. Rick Perry (and his sexual history) in the Austin Chronicle.
On Friday morning, GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul appeared on Fox News where he was asked to comment on the controversy.
When Fox’s Martha MacCallum asked, “What’s your campaign’s response to this coming from one of your supporters,” he was dismissive, claiming that the issue was of minor importance and that it doesn’t deserve the coverage it is being given. He said:
“Well, I don’t know how something like that qualifies as a question on national TV as if it’s something serious…it speaks for itself…I don’t know anything about it.
“This is news to me…for me to address that would give it too much credibility…it’s rather silly. How could this be a significant issue in a presidential race?”
As the interview progressed, MacCallum pushed a bit harder, asking, ”Would you encourage this person [Morrow] to stop saying he’s one of your supporters.” Paul’s response:
“My first impression would be, why pay attention to it? Why give it credibility? There’s a lot of things going on like that in a lot of campaigns…This whole thing doesn’t invite me or incite me…”
Paul says he has never discussed the advertisement among his campaign staff, nor has he ever asked anybody who Morrow is. Although, he never outright says so, his words seem to indicate that he doesn’t know Morrow personally. Watch the interview, below (the ad controversy is addressed around 6:00):
As an extra bonus, be sure to catch audio from “The Steve Gill Show’s” interview with Morrow. You’ll hear his claims (which are somewhat graphic) that a source told him that Rick Perry once abused cocaine, among other bizarre accusations. Listen below:
