Georgia Town Raises Nearly $4,000 Off of Saggy Pants Fines

It's a good look on you. No, really . . .
Authorities in Albany, Ga. may have found a solution to the national economic crisis.
The answer? Fine people with laughably bad fashion sense that borderlines on “indecent exposure.”
On Nov. 23 of last year, the city of Albany instituted a ban on anyone wearing pants (or skirts) more than three inches below the hips.
The first saggy-pants ordinance violator less than nine months ago started a cash flow to the city, reports the Albany Herald
Under the ordinance “the municipal court shall have the same authority as the superior court to enforce obedience to its orders, judgments and sentences.”
“The Municipal Court advises that 187 citations have been issued and fines collected of $3,916.49,” since the ordinance went into effect Nov. 23 says City Attorney Nathan Davis.
First-time offenders must pay a $25 fine. On subsequent offenses, the fine can run as high as $200.
Considering that the Albany Police Department is averaging more than 20 citations a month for the indecent exposure saggy pants ordinance, it is possible the rest of the year could add another $1,500 to the city’s general fund pot, reports the Herald.
Although the ordinance prohibits arrest or imprisonment for violations, it can impose 40 hours of community service to be completed in lieu of fines.

Disregarding polite society is not a constitutional right.
The inhabitants of Albany are not only spared the uninvited parade of drawers, but they will also have clean roads.
Doesn’t sound like a bad deal.
But wait! There’s more!
Albany is not alone among the cities that want to do away with the pants-around-the-ankle look. It has been reported that other cities in Georgia including Dublin, Hawkinsville, Plains, and Rome have similar ordinances or are considering them.
Furthermore, other states such as Florida, Virginia and Louisiana also have cities with the ban or are considering a ban, according to the website USATODAY.com.
If this trend were to catch on, then towns and cities across the nation could generate the revenue they need to operate and at the same time instruct fashion-challenged citizens on the benefits of wearing a belt.

Posted on October 5, 2011 at 3:53pmAt no other time in my life has the job market been more favorable for a intelligent, educated, respectful young man to easily get a job and build a career where he stands to make a lot of money. This is so because the competition is probably at it’s thinnest. As a person who has interviewed and hired hundreds of people over a 35 year career, I’m jealous. With all these idiots roaming around wasting their lives the smart ones must be smiling all the way to success.

Posted on October 4, 2011 at 10:35pmSaggy pants are more of a statement of the moral decline and glorification of the thug culture. Bleep your rights cause I got mine. In the Roman times the rule was that for every right there was a responsibility. They forgot that and look what happened. Do you think we’re any different?

UPSIDEDOWN FLAG....DISTRESS start flying them
Posted on October 4, 2011 at 6:14pmDon’t know why I even want to clarify this but, this trend didn’t start in prison. It actually started in the inner cities as a poor thing. See the younger kids would have to wear hand me downs and they would fall off the backsides until they grew into them. For some reason it became a trend how pathetic (kinda like the sock hat in warm weather for the grunge generation). Anyway its bad and glad my kids are all close together in age and the same size so the hand me downs don’t fall of their a**.

It actually comes from when you are in prison and are one of those “fun type boys” and are advertising. I never seen anything so funny than like when you are watching “Cops” or something like that and those fools try to run w/their pants like that! lol! They waddle like a duck with a cob up its rear and after two or three steps fall flat on their face! LMMFHO! Real beainy smurfs arent they ! lol!!! Haaaaa… So whats the next coool thing in the hip-hop world? Gonna start wearing your shoes on your hands or ‘suntin’? lol, morons!

Posted on October 4, 2011 at 3:37pmWhile I think this sagging looks moronic the fines for wearing pants this way may be too much. If they are showing skin that’s one thing but I don’t want the government telling me or anybody else how to dress.

Posted on October 4, 2011 at 3:37pmSo much for limited government. These articles are great for identifying who is really for limited government and who is just for less government when it is convenient to them.
We have 187 citations which probably took a half hour each in time taken by officers who are out to “protect and serve” the public but are instead becoming big brother and telling others how to dress.
So you have about 95 hrs of police time wrapped up in this enforcement or approx. $2000
Plus any lawyer fees and city council time wasted in writing up this dictation, and you come up with making a few bucks by selling away a little more freedom. Hopefully next time the city doesn’t find carrying a bible offensive. They could probably make a killing on that one. Just line the cops up on Sunday and the government could really be raking it in.
The idea is right, I hate sagging pants as much as the next guy. But when we impose our will on these people it does not do anything but fuel their rebellious engines and we are worse off than when we started. How about talking to them and educating them about why we don’t like seeing that sort of thing in society? How about mentoring or inviting one of these guys into your life to show them what being a man is. All these neocons here just want to throw the book at them, but then don’t understand when the infestation comes back twice as bad.
Wake up people! FREEDOM is why this country has any greatness at all, and we are throwing it away

Posted on October 4, 2011 at 9:03pmI agree full heartedly with you. Well said! The government doesnt really have business telling us how to dress. But I do think that local governments like a town can have ordances like this one if it’s in the intrest of the citizens of the town.

Posted on October 4, 2011 at 1:04pmIf I knew my son was wearing “saggy bottoms”, I would have him grounded. If a fine was involved, he would be the one paying it, not me. Respect for those around you has been thrown out the window. It’s a shame that police need to be involved. It’s the parents that should be.

Posted on October 4, 2011 at 12:15pmYears ago didn’t we take pride in trying to look as nice as possible? So why is it nowdays that some guys and gals try and look as cheap and/or disgusting as they can? If this is a ‘fad’ it’s a sick fad! I don’t care to walk down the street and see a guy’s back-end hanging out of his pants! I think he should be ashamed of himself! But I’m not sure how many young people today even have a sense of good taste and decency when it comes to clothing or how to wear it. And when I see how some young girls dress the only word that comes to mind is ‘slut’! Then they wonder why some guys view them so cheaply? So where are the parents in all of this? Do they even care? Are they afraid to say something? Finally, what’s with guys entering restaurants, etc., wearing hats and caps? I’ve even seen it in a couple of churches! Where’s the common courtesy and respect?

The answer? Fine people.
Typical Nazi Dictatorship.
Criminalize non-criminal behavior and then fine people for it and use the money to line our Nazi Pockets.
What’s new? The “authorities” (they’re not anyone’s authority, they’re public servants) prey on the public for revenue. The entitled public workers get to have something do after sitting under a billboard for hours eating donuts and harrassing prostitutes and minorities.
And you idiots don’t even feel safe, but you sure keep on shelling out those salaries every year… and those Nazis just keep asking for more and more to pad their incompetence… more power, more money, more more more…..

Posted on October 4, 2011 at 10:48amThis is not a racist issue…people of all colors do this and it is disgusting, indecent and just generally dumb. I witnessed a 2 yr old wearing his pants just like his daddy the other day…do you think that child is learning to walk properly? I can not wait for this law to come to my small town..we already have eating establishments that will not serve anyone in pants hanging off their butts. Way to go Albany!!!!!

Posted on October 4, 2011 at 10:43amI remember when “sagging” came into vogue. My boys were both teenagers. My first reaction was “There will be no sagging or baggy pants in the “Marupis” household!” After pleas from my wife on their behalf and the fact that she didn’t want them to be taunted and in fights, I relented…somewhat…however, there were two rules.
#1 If I can see your underwear….Instant wedgie! And I mean an ATOMIC wedgie! I don’t care where we are so you’d better wear a belt!
#2 If I can drop your pants, I WILL! I don’t care where we are. I will bring them down to your ankles.
Knowing me as well as my boys did, they knew I was completely serious and would deliver upon my word. They did not test those rules.
None of it lasted very long. They both soon dressed like thinking human beings and laughed about “how stupid” they looked with “those dumbass baggy pants”
hehe….Plant a bean…get a bean.
