Obama Vows To Hold Those Responsible for Fast And Furious Accountable

Operation Fast and Furious continues to be a thorn in the Obama administration’s side.

Ever since the story of the gun-smuggling operation broke, facts and details have slowly leaked out to the public including Attorney General Eric Holder’s alleged intimate knowledge of Fast and Furious and the fact that border agent Brian Terry was tragically murdered with a gun used in the operation.

Perhaps in an effort to do some damage control, President Obama has agreed to an interview with ABC’s Jack Tapper, reportedly telling the newsman that the “people who have screwed up will be held accountable.” He also allegedly went on to say that whoever gave the green light for the Operation would be held responsible.

“It’s very upsetting to me to think that somebody showed such bad judgment that they would allow something like that to happen,” he said. “And we will find out who and what happened in this situation and make sure it gets corrected.”

As Business Insider points out:

Obama’s remarks are a marked divergence from the White House’s previous comments on Fast and Furious, which is currently under investigation by the House Oversight Committee to determine who in the DOJ was aware of the gun smuggling program.

Republicans on the committee have accused the Obama administration of stalling the investigation.

Considering how silent the White House has been up to this point, this recent decision to sit down for an interview on the subject certainly does mark a new attitude towards the scandal.

“Our overarching goal consistently has been to say we’ve got a responsibility not only to stop drugs from flowing north, we’ve also got a responsibility to make sure we are not helping to either arm or finance these drug cartels in Mexico,” Obama said in the interview with ABC News senior White House correspondent Jake Tapper that will air on “Nightline.”

With Eric Holder remaining in the hot seat, having been recently issued a subpoena regarding his knowledge of the operation, will Obama continue to remain by his side?

It was as recently as Oct. 6 when the president said in a press conference, “I have complete confidence in him, and I’ve got complete confidence in the process to figure out who, in fact, was responsible for that decision and how it got made.”

With Obama’s new “get tough” stance, will Holder still have his confidence?

  Let me see, this has been all over the news for 4 or 5 months and now obama is going to take care of thr problem. Makes me think of the oil spill – after millions of dead fish , people losing their jobs, and oil balls on the beaches and no tourist he finally did something!
