NKorean Prison Camp Survivor: Starving Women Cooked & Ate Their Own Children

Kim Hye Sook Discusses Her Detention in North Korean Prison Camp Kim Hye Sook suffered unbearable pain and emotional suffering when she was detained for 28 years in a secretive North Korean concentration camp. Brutal executions, starvation — even mothers killing and eating their children to ensure their own survival — were regular occurrences.

Kim — who miraculously escaped from the Bukchang prison camp back in 2003 – granted CBN News with the first American television news interview to discuss these horrendous conditions. She now lives in South Korea, with the details of her escape remaining classified for security reasons. This summer, she released a memoir entitled, “A Concentration Camp Retold in Tears.”

When she was 13-year-old, her tragic tale began. The year was 1975 and in the blink of an eye the young girl was captured alongside her entire family. After years of suffering, she didn’t taste freedom until she was 41-years-old. Kim explains:

“My entire family went to prison. Some were taken to the mountains; others were put in different labor camps all because of my grandfather’s one mistake: he escaped to South Korea during the Korean War.”

Today, Kim wears dark glasses to ensure that her identity remains concealed. While she lost seven family members in the re-education camp, she currently has two sisters and a brother who are still imprisoned. She described a typical day at the camp:

“I attended indoctrination classes in the morning. In the afternoon the children were sent to push trolleys in the coal mines, often without any safety gear.

People were dying in the mines. There were numerous mine collapses, so many injuries, people who lost their legs, many who were buried alive. It was horrible.

I was treated like a slave and worse. I hardly slept. It was inhuman. But I never complained. I just followed all the rules. I had to find a way to survive.”

Kim claims that the conditions were so terrible that she thought about committing suicide “hundreds of thousands of times” during her 28-year detention. But because there was always someone watching her, this simply wasn’t an option:

“Each prisoner is assigned to watch four or five other prisoners. So if anything happens, the other prisoners would alert the guards because they didn’t want to get into trouble themselves.”

While her descriptions of executions are absolutely horrendous, nothing is more disturbing than her memories about those individuals who she saw kill their children in an effort to stave off hunger. In one instance, she recalls a mother boiling her 9-year-old daughter. In another fit of desperation, a woman killed her 16-year-old son, chopped him up and took him to a butcher to obtain some corn in exchange.

Kim admits that these details are difficult to share, but she bravely proclaims, “I want the world to see these images and to hear my testimony.” In describing the conditions in the isolated and volatile nation, she says, “I am living proof that there are no human rights in North Korea.” In September, she was invited to Washington, D.C., where she testified before a congressional panel about the conditions she faced.

I saw a picture of obama when he went to china ..in the back ground two chinese soldiers broke facial profile with the looks of pure evil at him lol he thinks hes loved by the communist hes wrong big time….they run over babies this isnt no surprise about them people but yet people spend money over there and companies move there , people vacation there “ohh look at the beautiful mountains “with thousands of dead kids burried in there from coal mining …eating thier own kids my God !

Yeah, Communism sucks. The bigger part of the story I think, is that mothers would eat their children, rather than sacrifice themselves. How heartless. I’d do anything to see my kids survive.

Your comments indicate a profound misunderstand of God and his plan. The question is not “why would god allow this , or that?” but is rather “Why does humanity allow this?”
You see the point and the proof is before your very eyes and even is contained in your questions.
We NEED god to rule over us. We are incapable of ruling ourselves. He is allowing us to rule ourselves and the otrocities you mentioned are proof of OUR failure. He will continue to allow us to rule ourselves until, unless he intervienes, “No flesh shall be spared”. When, finally, we stand on the very brink of destruction and the inevitable extinction of all life on this planet, then and ONLY then, will He interviene on our behalf. Then and ONLY then will “every knee bow and every tongue confess” Don’t you see? unless this is allowed to continue to the very end there would awlays be doubt, this way there can be no doubt. We need God, we are incapable of justly ruling ourselves, God is just, and we are sinners.

Why haven’t we heard anything from the Hollywood elite, do they not see this suffering and injustice as a good cause? Sean Penn needs to set the example and visit North Korea so he can show us all the good he can do. Maybe this is another communist he looks up to!

  I don’t know if you are familiar with Joel Rosenberg’s novels. In one of his latest, North Korea is turned into a sea of fire by a full scale nuclear strike courtesy of the USA. In his book, this is the event that signals the return Of Christ.

The quest for survival is different for every person. For some it’s prayer whether they be christian, jew or any other religion. For others it is some sort of action such as killing and eating another human. Is there a God, if you believe there is one then so be it. If we believe in God then we must believe in free will and the ability to reason. If we violate the tenants of our religion then we may not be true believers.
This is a story about survival and the horrible things that those people did to survive. The story is what it is, the story of survival in a very domineering autocratic government run society, i.e. communism in its most ruthless form. Can’t get in or get out.

The only thing wrong with this interview is that the man who introduces it says it is inappropriate for children. That is a flat lie. We should all make the next generation of people aware as can be about the evils that plague this earth and ensure that they know the consequence of their actions and others actions. That is not only the job of a parent, but it is their responsibility as well. In fact, as the old saying goes, it is the job of every person in the village to teach children what they will need to know in adulthood.

“It takes a village to raise a child.”

So moms, if a guy ever yells at your kid for getting out of line and doing something stupid like ******* on a concrete pillar in front of the movie theatre (seen it happen) don’t get all upset and defensive for your child. Understand that the man is only doing his part in order to help your child become a respectable adult, citizen, and human being.

A perfect example of a Marxist / Stalinist utopia. Obama and his minions see us as lab rats in their ultimate expierement to form the “perfect society”, copied from the “Great Leader” of North Korea. Anyone who is seen as a hinderance to the “revolution” becomes a candidate for the equilivant of North Korean “reeducation camp”, whiich in this country is being condemned for not being “politically correct”. That is the first step in creating a closed society. We are already seeing preceived enemies being punished, and those bowing for favors being rewarded. That is the second step.
