‘Very Afraid’: 66-Year-Old Woman Shoots and Kills Home Intruder
An elderly Northern California-woman woke early Friday morning to hear an intruder attempting to break into her home. CBS 12 reports that the 66-year-old Donna Hopper is still shaken after shooting the 37-year-old intruder dead:
“The 66-year-old Donna Hopper was visibly upset when Action News spoke with her outside her home this morning.
She did not want to talk on camera but says even though she does not know that man, she feels horrible that someone died at her hands.”
Hopper says she was terrified when she heard the intruder at her her door, firing two warning shots through her window to scare the man away. When 37-year-old Jesse Edward Theis persisted, attempting to come back in, Hopper fired a fatal shot in his abdomen, killing Theis on the scene.
Hopper told CBS 12 that she never wanted to hurt anyone, and that she was just acting on instinct.
The Record Searchlight of Redding, CA, where the crime took place, writes that prosecutors say Hopper’s actions were justified:
“‘He meant her lethal harm,’ Shasta County Chief Deputy District Attorney Josh Lowery said. An official determination won’t be made until the DA’s office has a chance to review police and autopsy reports, Lowery said. An autopsy will likely be performed Monday.
Local officials say the shooting is yet another example of how inmates at the continually full Shasta County jail are being released early and going out and committing more crime, sometimes within hours of their release.”
The Searchlight reports that Theis had been released from jail the morning before the shooting took place.

Criminals ought to be sent to the gates of the city and executed. After only 1 or 2 such events, crime will become a rare occasion.

True, It just dawned on me reading your post, older people always say it was so safe back then, you could leave your keys in your car, or leave your house door, unlocked overnight.
It was because, that is how things were dealt with, back then. They had little patience with criminals.
They were deliberate men back then. Even the Democrats. There were few frivolous lawsuits. Armed residents and citizens are a criminal deterrent. Bottom Line !!!

When David killed Goliath, he took away the giants sword, cut his head off, and celebrated.
We have created this crap in America, where we are supposed to not fight, and be the victim. Just look at 9-11. My first thoughts when it happened, is that if every man in America had been tought like I was, and that you are not dressed unless you have a pocket knife on you, this could not happen. What did America do? We took away every means of people on airplanes to protect themselves in the event this were to happen again.

If the two shots that she fired to warn him did not stop him she had no other choice. I have only recently learned to fire a weapon. It makes me feel safer and I would have done the same thing if I had been in her shoes. I would also carry the same guilt for taking another persons life, it would be hard for me as well. Regardless , she had to defend herself . We are forced into these situations and whether we like it or not we must be prepared. God bless her and I too will pray for her .

They need to have addicts COMPLETE withdrawals in jail. Not that they won’t use when they get out, but they won’t be going bonkers trying to stop from getting dope sick.
I was thinking maybe the guy got drunk or high and thought it was his house or a family members. He sure picked the wrong house.
I much rather read about this dear woman feeling cruddy about killing the guy than the news telling us about a dead grandmother. I wish her a quick mental recovery. I hope I never have to pull the trigger at anything but a target.

Contrary to what Joe Biden believes, the police would not be able to prevent the rape/murder once in progress, and would arrive after the crime has been completed.
More police likely would reduce crime by keeping criminals on their toes, not because there are more police to respond to 911 calls. The crime will have been completed by the time the police arrive.

Buy a tactical shotgun and 00 or #4 shells. Shotguns are intuitive weapons. They are easy to use and clean. Take a gun safety course. With a shotgun you only have to point at the person’s chest and shoot.

This man was very confused and even wandered next door possibly putting her neighbor in danger as well, then coming back and attempting to break a window. He made no sense. Is it just me? To those who are widowed and live alone this is most disturbing.

I am a sheepdog and it is in my very nature to protect protect. Some people are wolves who will feast on the lives of other men. Such people are inhuman and if they ever attenpt to feed off the life of a person in my vicinity, they will be torn limb from limb so long as there is a breath lift in my body.
I don’t need any lawyer or politician to tell me what is right or what I can or cannot do in the defense of individual human life from immediate harm or even the threat of harm.
LIFE, LIBERTY, PROPERTY
Those three words say so much in so little.

Any gun owners (and IMO every American) should research the Warren Doctrine. It is the basis for ALL United States deadly force laws, and clearly defines when deadly force is acceptable. If you choose to use deadly force outside of that framework you’re very likely to be charged with a crime.
Yes, a Castle Doctrine law is spectacular, but most states don’t have them(thankful my states just passed one a few months back FINALLY).

Donna does need some hand gun safety training. Her 2 warning shots travelled somewhere and could have hit an innocent. Never draw a gun to threaten. Use it to kill.

Never let someone or thing that threatens you get inside arm’s length and never say “I’ve got a gun”. If you feel you need to use deadly force for heaven’s sake let the first sound they hear be the safety clicking off, and they shouldn’t have time to hear anything after that if you are doing your job.
The average response time of a 911 call is over 23 minutes… the response time of a .44 magnum is 1400 feet per second.
The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always win – and cheat if necessary.

I just had a car stolen out of my driveway a couple of months ago, i was working on it so it was un insured the police did nabbed the people in the next town driving it, but of course the crooks said they did not steal it, so the police let them go, saying who ever is the true owner will pick it up from the police station, which was me, but the police charged me $250 to get my own car back and would not give me the name of the person who stole it or press any kind of charges, just let them go. Oh and the crooks tore up the car so bad i almost did not get to drive it home, and it almost did not make it home, it now not worth fixing, Just scrap now. I am sorry i did not mean to make this store about me, i am just so sick of people how steal and hurt others.
