American Gun Ownership at Highest Level in Almost 20 Years

A new Gallup poll of self-reported gun ownership shows that 47% of American adults have a firearm somewhere in their household, which is the highest the number has been since 1993.

The new data comes from Gallup’s October 6-9th crime poll. Below are the charted results of gun ownership by year:American Gun Ownership at Highest Level in Almost 20 Years

Public support for gun rights is also at a peak, according to Gallop. And Republicans are of course more likely to own a firearm than democrats, by a margin of 55% to 42%. But even Democrat gun ownership has spiked to 40%, it highest level in eight years.

American Gun Ownership at Highest Level in Almost 20 YearsWomen are also a group that has seen a surge in gun ownership, as personal adult female gun ownership was assessed in the poll at 23%, while 46% said there was a gun in their home.

You can see the full range of statistics and comparisons of the Gallup poll here.

So far in 2011, gun ownership appears alive and well.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

47% of American adults openly admit to having a firearm . How many more don’t admit anything because they don’t trust their government? How many admit nothing because they live where gun ownership is restricted or virtually inpossible for law abiding citizens?

Gun ownership went down after obama was elected until spring of this year according to this gallup poll ? Somehow i doubt it, people pay less attention to the stigma attached to gun ownership and guns , ladies are not frowned upon for having them now either. Most probably didn’t answer the question so the numbers are far too low…….closer to 76%

      Scout,
I am with you. You can read anything you want, but talk to “Gun Folks” and they will tell you that the surge of purchases began shortly before O’mans office raid. Do you remember trying to find ammo?
There was actually a shortage in PA.

Thank God it’s climbing. It should be 90% or higher on both sides. I’d say 100%, but you can always count on at least 10% idiots. An armed society is a polite society, and if every one was armed we’d be nation of citizens, and reverse the trend towards being subjects. If you read this story and don’t have a weapon yet, remember, at least in theis case, the trend is your friend. Peace be with you all.

Something disturbing that is happening and I have not heard much reported about is the fact that doctors are asking children and adults if they have firearms in their homes, Now I didn’t think it was a big deal before the goverment took over the health care system, but now I have to wonder? do we now have a defacto gun registration of sorts?

That’s all part of the Turd’s health care reform, Tractorboy- the ‘new and improved Amerikan medical system’. If you have weapons they are not obligated to serve you- not to mention, you’re now on record as owning weapons and they have your addy.
Don’t you feel so much safer with OTurd as your president?

      a suggestion
30.06 ammo is too expensive. $600.00 per K
try .223 dead on at 200 yards, 100 yards 50 yards, 5 yards or 5 feet.
Cheap enough to shoot a ton of practice rounds at 225.00 per K

um, not attached to reality are you? Remember katrina’s aftermath? The collaps he’s talking about is the collapse of the government and subsequent looting, rioting and pillaging that will happen. Intelligent folks with common sense understand this instinctively and provide for defense of them and their family when that time comes. If you think otherwise your a fool and delusional. Have a good time when the local gang breaks in your door demanding all your food and then rapes your wife and daughter. Who are you going to call? The police? Right. if you think that you are a true idiot. What? You say the government won’t collapse……..ok…….I’m sure the economy will be juuuuuust fine. You might take a look at the Great Depression and see what conditions were like. That was a time when the federal government was stable. Imagine what it would be like now with similar conditions except add that overnight the dollar is worthless and you have to clean out your bank account just to get a loaf of bread and stand in line all day to get it. When the bread is gone then what? There will be no FEMA because they are already broke. The federal government can’t even put gas in their vehicles much less help you. The difference this time will be the roving gangs who think an easy life is owed to them and they will take what they want by force. It’s apocalypse and it’s alot closer to happening than you think. Get your head out of your ass and be prepared.

As the government and economy collapsed, the Leftist knew nothing but the antics of their olds ways. The progressives took to the streets to protest and demand social justice. In the City of New York, Al Sharpton and his megaphone orchestrated a small demonstration. As in the past, ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, CNBC, PBS and other leftist media were present to record every moment with delight. Even Kathie Couric came out of retirement to relive her liberal past. Al led the chats, WHAT DO WE WANT, SOCIAL JUSTICE, WHEN DO WE WANT IT, NOW. This mindless chant went on for several minutes, until a large group of people approached the protestors. Al screamed in horror saying” run for your lives, they are the “Takers”. By then it was too late, the Takers had stripped Al of his Italian handmade leather shoes, his finely tailored pin striped silk suit and all his “bling”. He now stood there, alone in the middle of the street wearing only his slightly soiled shorts. His face had fallen, ash in color. He looked up towards heaven and said. ” My God, My God, what have I done”? Before this occurred, the media support had faded away. No one was there to record his disgrace. All he had left of value was his gold teeth.

It’s not the party persuasion that initiates higher gun sales but rather the propensity toward socialism, their self stated goal of taking our guns and the ever increasing intrusion on our liberties. There comes a point when good men must make a stand and if that means blasting away at anyone on my property who wasn’t invited then so be it. Our family has a plan. The atriarchs of the family have property with vegetable garden, cattle, artesian springs and rapid running stream and stockpiles of food, weapons and ammo. I personally have a .22 rifle and a .25 semi auto pistol both with magnums plus a compound bow with hunting tips and various knives, collapsible fishing rods, lures, camping and survival equipment packed and ready to go. If the excrement hits the oscillator we are heading for the ranch and will stay for the duration. And for the guy who said a .22 is weak…….not if they are magnum hollow points and your a military trained expert shot like me dude! I can put that .22 mag through your eye at 50 yards without a scope. Before Christmas I’m going to get a .40cal S&W semi auto and a shotgun to add to my collection. Also have a 4×4 pickup for getting us out of here. I will not be controlled. I’m a Patrick Henry man. Give me Liberty or give me death!

Having lived in the North woods, (so to speak), and raising a large family, it was necessary to hunt during Deer season, Bird season, and other seasons to put meat on the table for the long haul of Winter. Guns were required. We would have starved without it. Today, we have many creatures which now enter the city limits in search of food. MAN is the target, or domestic pets etc:. Bears are really hard to tackle without a gun either with a seditive or slug coming out the barrel. Keep your guns folks. The Bears are looking for their last meal before hibernation. LOL.

The part that amuses me is this Occupy Wall Street/ Collapse The Government crowd doesn’t seem to take into consideration that if they are indeed successful in their madness they will all be looking into the barrel of a gun! The lawful gun owners will not stand for these people in a lawless society and ironically won’t have to worry about the consequences of shooting someone in the absence of government. Be careful what you wish for out there. You just might get it!

It is the duty of every good American to have a firearm and know how to use it, carry it, and clean it. It is our DUTY. When the collapse happens I’m opting for guerilla warfare. Everybody should be studying George Washington’s strategy in the Revolutionary War. We also need to understand the slaughter the left has always been willing to perpetrate and not get too cocky thinking that patriots are better armed than the modern revolutionaries. We might be, but the left’s track record of smashing over the bounds of what is decent is horrifying. No one should believe that they will roll over, especially since they’ll be the ones triggering the revolt.

    Be forever vigilant. Be fast.

What do you mean? What ‘collapse’? This is madness.

And even if there were some sort of a ‘collapse’, how would 18th century war strategy help you against whoever it is you plan on fighting? I still don’t get who it is you guys are arming yourselves against. Is it the Russians, the Chinese, African Americans, Hippies, who is this boogey man that is coming to get you after this never happening ‘collapse’?

The multi-generational “Takers” who benefited from government largess and wealth transfer from the producers, were thrilled with Progressive Programs during the first three years of Obama’s Regime. The “Takers” were conditioned and trained for over fifty years to support the Democratic Party. Behavior modification began at an early age. “Sesame Street” was instructed to place special emphasis on the letter “D”. After all, the show was on public television. In practice voting sessions, if they voted correctly for Democrats, a government treat would be dispensed. Panic arose when election boards wanted to remove the party affiliations and just list the candidate’s name. This caused such anxiety in the “Taker” community that the idea was quickly dropped. Introducing an additional factor requiring thought was too much stress. This reward based conditioning lasted for the entire life of a “Taker”. Election Day became more important that Christmas. “Takers” would arise early, bathe and put on their finest clothes. This must be a special day, since the “Takers” never behaved in this manner. They waited anxiously for the government sponsored vans to arrive to take them to the polling center. Democrats on site would usher them to the voting machine and prayed to Karl Marx the years of training would not be forgotten. After voting, they were fed lunch and returned home. This process was the same, year after year for countless generations.

Sad. It most likely means people feel insecure about crime. The crime in the US is outrageous, and must be addressed by the government. Clearly, it is not, so people feel a need to protect themselves in this homespun fashion. Increased gun ownership = increase in accidental gun deaths, suicides, and homicidal family violence that would not have occurred if a gun was not present in the house.
