Scuba-Diving Fishermen Filmed ‘Walking’ on Ice Under Water — But How?

Its about that time of year where in wintry climates ice fishermen begin drilling holes in ice and setting up their huts above frozen lakes. The opposite is true for these underwater ice fishermen donning scuba gear in this mind-boggling video where they appear to be walking on ice underwater and attempting to fish from below.

Have you guessed how this worked? The scuba divers were actually filmed upside down walking on the surface ice underwater.

something nice to view to break up the monotony! thanks.
Scuba is fun but i prefer the beach and warm water. But this sure was an effort to do in the cold- they are tough cookies- regardless of the gear, its still cold.

  watch the bubbles, they are walking on the underside of the ice so the buckets will go to the surface.I am sure the wheel barrel is because they want to mess with you. :)

  Thanks for the explanation. Being a SCUBA diver I was having a hard time understand what was going on. I thinking it was a thermal issue. Now it makes sense, still pretty cool.

  The buckets and wheel Barrel were filled with air, that is how they floated. You could see when he emptied the air from the wheel barrel that it sunk.

I have been ice diving … and its scary and cold…. where is the safety line… when they want to come out …where is the hole? Black dark lonely and cold…. i liked diving in the Florida Keys better

Ever been diving in really COLD water??? It’s miserable!!! I really admire them for this film and enjoyed watching it. It looks like they had a lot of fun but I am sure it was a lot of work too. I really enjoyed this film…. it made me miss diving. I have not been in several years.

As a diver I had it just from the description before watching. I would like to see these guys do some more with a closed rebreather system. Without the bubbles this would have looked super. I am impressed with the camera work. Getting enough light for photography underwater is tough enough never mind filming under ice.

  It was fun to watch…adults enjoying being kids again and using their imaginations. The bubble directions were a dead-give-away but it was creative. Remember putting blankets over the clothesline to make a fort and use the wooden-clothes-pins to close the door to the magic-fort. We use to put on plays.comedy and mystery and put doll-clothes on our cats and have a circus. Just simple-fun.

I have to admit, it was a really nice art film, but I don’t see how anyone could have been fooled beyond the first exhaled breath. I mean, for cryin’ out loud. Where was the light coming from? Light does not naturally come from BELOW when you are scuba diving. What I wanna know is… where did the wheelbarrow and “balloon” go TO? Did they fish them back out?

  Not entirely correct. Light comes from below when you’re in a grotto where the access is only from underwater. There’s a great one near Amalfi Italy where the daylight comes through three tunnels. Splash the water inside and it looks like a million diamonds.

As a scuba diver it was not too hard to figure out. Pretty interesting though. One of them has the same regulator that I do or at least it looks the same. Also pretty good balance for walking upside down. LOL

  The Blaze is such a joke so very often. It’s good for fun stories. It’s good for Beck so he can use it on his radio show. He controls the news essentially, with the Blaze. I’m pretty sure it’s just a bunch of people scanning the internet for stories that help beck out. To be fair though, some stuff on it is really breaking news and important stuff that is ignored elsewhere.

  It’s just that this is something I would expect my 1st grade nephew to be able to figure out. But the author seems to expect us to be all confused. If someone didn’t immediately know they were upside down within 1 second of glancing at the first picture, then they need to walk away from The Blaze immediately and pick up an elementary school textbook.
