Imagine what would happen if a man in a bar told a group of Navy SEALs that he:
- Disagrees with the war.
- Believes they (the military) are murderers, killing innocent people… men, women and children
- Thought they probably deserve to lose a few of their own.
You are probably wondering if the guy making the offensive comments is still alive.
(Related: Sniper tells O’Reilly why he thinks enemy Iraqis are “savages”)
He is alive, and he also happens to be Jesse Ventura, a SEAL alum/reservist and the former governor of Minnesota.
Making matters worse, Ventura’s comments were directed at Chris Kyle, the Navy SEAL known as “the military’s deadliest sniper.”
This little known incident was brought out during an interview on SiriusXM’s Opie and Anthony radio show on Wednesday. Speaking exclusively to The Blaze, Gregg “Opie” Hughes explained that he had a tip to ask Kyle about his run-in with Jesse Ventura. So Opie casually brought it up and the story unfolded.
It was in 2006 when Ventura and the SEALs happened to be in the same bar, for very different reasons. The SEALs were holding a wake to honor a lost member of their team. Jesse was in town to speak to some new graduates of the SEAL program. During his military career from 1969-75, Ventura was a member of the Navy’s elite Underwater Demolition Team or UDT (the UDT was the precursor to the SEALs) and Jesse is a SEAL reservist. You might expect that sharing the history of membership in an elite military unit would garner a lifetime of mutual respect. Not so with Ventura.

As stated above, the SEALs were in the bar to mourn the loss of team member. They had gathered with the family of Medal of Honor recipient Mike Mansoor when Ventura made it known to many that he did not agree with the war. Kyle claims that he approached the former governor, and asked him to keep it down, informing Jesse that the family of the deceased was also with them.
That’s when Ventura unleashed more of his insensitive comments and Kyle reportedly countered with a one-punch knockdown.
Earlier this week, The Blaze featured a story about Chris Kyle and his autobiography that explains his amazing prowess with a rifle. We know now that Chris is also accurate with his fists and at close range.
Here’s the interview from the Opie and Anthony show on Wednesday. Chris Kyle explained the encounter with Jesse “the Body” Ventura.
(Content warning, this video contains what the Navy might call “salty language:”)
Following the interview, “Opie” says that Chris Kyle told him that very few people knew about the Jesse Ventura incident and that his source must be “very inside.”

Jan. 5, 2012 at 8:16amJesse is a nut. I suspect he’s taken quite a few on the head. How else can his lack of class and tact be explained?
The military works for the country and do what they’re told. Believe me, I did 21 years and still to this day, would not tolerate someone attacking the members of our illustrious military. You’re free to complain about the government, their bad decisions, etc. But, never attack the service member!

Jan. 5, 2012 at 11:42amWhen Ventura refused to stop disrespecting a fellow serviceman in front of his family, he became Jane Fonda, he ceased being a fellow military man and became another loudmouth in a bar. He deserved what he got. If you are 60 or a woman (as I am), you need to watch your mouth, that’s just life.

Jan. 5, 2012 at 8:13amIt wouldn’t matter who made the comments. It was lacking love, compassion on the family, and respect that we would all appreciate. This is more about lacking love and decency than any political position. We all have our views on issues, but when those views cause us to loose our decency (ESPECIALLY AT A WAKE FOR A FALLEN SOLDIER) you are highly likely to get your ass reminded that respect for others is still a high priority in this country.

Jan. 5, 2012 at 8:08amRead my entire comment. I wasn’t praising Jesse. IN the second sentence I said “Just because you have the right to do something doesn’t mean its a good idea”. I would have punched Jesse in the kisser, too. Total disrespect from Jesse.

Jan. 5, 2012 at 8:07amThe Wake for a fallen comrade is something that is akin to sacred among the SEAL community. A time for celebration of someones life and accomplishments as well as a time of profound grief and personnal loss. SpecOps is family. The bond between people that depend upon each other for their very lives is one of the strongest I have ever felt. These are people who will actually DIE for one another. Jesse is nothing more than a blowbag, swelled up with himself, and incredibly disrespecfull of the family of a medal-of-honor winner. Kyle did what needed to be done, both in that bar, and in Iraq. Punching Jesse was a reflex, sure it wasn’t even concious thought. Don’t mess with these people, as they care for their own. Unless you have been in their shoes, done what they’ve done, and have a profound love of country and countrymen, your can’t and will never understand. I sleep well at night, knowing that men such as these are the guardians of all that I hold dear.

Jan. 5, 2012 at 7:47amJesse has the right to say whatever he wants whether I agree with him or not. But just because you have the right to do something doesn’t mean it is a good idea. The SEALS were there to mourn a fallen brother. When that was made aware to Jesse, he should have just shut his mouth an moved on. But no. He felt compelled to get his point across. An he got slugged for it. I think anyone with an ounce of sense could have seen that coming. As a former SEAL (UDT), I would expect him to have a little brotherly love for other SEALS. Obviously he was pile drived one too many times in his wrestling career.

Jan. 5, 2012 at 7:45amI used to follow a former SEAL’s blog (froggyruminations.blogspot.com) and he was very explicit about Ventura and the contempt most active and retired SEALs have for him. Ventura is a complete self-promoting blowhard, and he is a total POS for attacking SEALs for defending this country while he promotes his SEAL history. There are bad apples in every profession and walk of life. Ventura is one of the worst bad apples out there.
I know Froggy’s posts on Ventura are still out there in the blog’s archives for anyone who wants to search. MAN do I miss Froggy. He kept a lot of us sane during the first few years of the GWOT!

Jan. 5, 2012 at 7:28amWow. “You deserve to lose a few guys”? Geez. Why? Because they were following the Law and the orders that they were given to follow? So, by implication, we should just ignore the laws when they don’t fit our philosophy. If the law is irrelevant, then why create a political party to try to change them Jesse?
Yeah … you totally deserved that beat-down Jesse.

Jan. 5, 2012 at 7:27am“Support the troops but not war”
Moronic statement of the century. if you “support the troops” you are by extension supporting the efforts and actions they are taking. you are in fact supproting the war they are fighting. you cannot have it both ways.
This moronic and misleading mindset stems from the lefts embarressment over their abhorant treatment of US servicemembers during the vietnam war which they now flee from at every opportunity.
In this case Ventura stepped over the line. he may have done great stuff in the past but such disrespect was uncalled for.

Jan. 5, 2012 at 7:40pmAmen Bigfoot. My ex is a Navy Seal and had it been my man, Ventura would not have made it out alive. And as far as your comment Peter Alan Coe about Ventura owning this kid had he been in his prime, you’re dillusional in the extreme. You obviously know nothing about our SF and SEALs. Ventura was a professional wrestler (all of which is fake), this kid is the real deal. You need a serious fact check.
