Imagine what would happen if a man in a bar told a group of Navy SEALs that he:
- Disagrees with the war.
- Believes they (the military) are murderers, killing innocent people… men, women and children
- Thought they probably deserve to lose a few of their own.
You are probably wondering if the guy making the offensive comments is still alive.
(Related: Sniper tells O’Reilly why he thinks enemy Iraqis are “savages”)
He is alive, and he also happens to be Jesse Ventura, a SEAL alum/reservist and the former governor of Minnesota.
Making matters worse, Ventura’s comments were directed at Chris Kyle, the Navy SEAL known as “the military’s deadliest sniper.”
This little known incident was brought out during an interview on SiriusXM’s Opie and Anthony radio show on Wednesday. Speaking exclusively to The Blaze, Gregg “Opie” Hughes explained that he had a tip to ask Kyle about his run-in with Jesse Ventura. So Opie casually brought it up and the story unfolded.
It was in 2006 when Ventura and the SEALs happened to be in the same bar, for very different reasons. The SEALs were holding a wake to honor a lost member of their team. Jesse was in town to speak to some new graduates of the SEAL program. During his military career from 1969-75, Ventura was a member of the Navy’s elite Underwater Demolition Team or UDT (the UDT was the precursor to the SEALs) and Jesse is a SEAL reservist. You might expect that sharing the history of membership in an elite military unit would garner a lifetime of mutual respect. Not so with Ventura.

As stated above, the SEALs were in the bar to mourn the loss of team member. They had gathered with the family of Medal of Honor recipient Mike Mansoor when Ventura made it known to many that he did not agree with the war. Kyle claims that he approached the former governor, and asked him to keep it down, informing Jesse that the family of the deceased was also with them.
That’s when Ventura unleashed more of his insensitive comments and Kyle reportedly countered with a one-punch knockdown.
Earlier this week, The Blaze featured a story about Chris Kyle and his autobiography that explains his amazing prowess with a rifle. We know now that Chris is also accurate with his fists and at close range.
Here’s the interview from the Opie and Anthony show on Wednesday. Chris Kyle explained the encounter with Jesse “the Body” Ventura.
(Content warning, this video contains what the Navy might call “salty language:”)
Following the interview, “Opie” says that Chris Kyle told him that very few people knew about the Jesse Ventura incident and that his source must be “very inside.”

Jan. 5, 2012 at 9:11amTaking the Navy Seal at his word, which is the respect he deserves, I would have to side with him, but only on the disrespect shown the the fallen and his family. I am against these wars, but as a veteran you do not disrespect your military brothers. I wouldn’t be in a bar, but if I was I am sure I would have been on the Chris Kyle’s side for the sake of respect.

Jan. 5, 2012 at 9:08amThere’s a small but growing number of people on the Right who believe in conspiracy theories, are isolationaists and opposed to basically any military actions short of resisting an invasion, want to legalize drugs and all kinds of other immoral behavior, are opposed to the “War on Terror” (aka the war against fundamentalist islam) including domestic spying programs on islamic jihad terrorists, etc.
They’re coming from the libertarian ranks mostly.

Jan. 5, 2012 at 10:54amYou are a disgrace to humanity. There is a big difference between decriminalizing something and calling it moral. Should it be criminal to have a beer in your own home or to brew your own mead, wine, or whiskey? Because it used to be and to make your own whiskey still is. Add to that the fact that something is moral or not is a personal judgement call and your case breaks down completely.
The facts are that unless you are taking away another person’s right to life, liberty, or property… you are not committing a crime. I’m willing to bet that you are one of the people who doesn’t even see that our current two party system is leading us inexorably to a totalitarian state on 4 to 8 year cycles going from one form of statist to another.
BTW, I took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States. People like you are enemies as far as I can tell. Please, explain to me how imprisoning people for their possession of property without harming anyone else is right? Your war on drugs has fueled the criminal element in this nation for decades and now we live in a world where people along our border risk being shot in their sleep by Mexican cartels. So thanks alot.

A REAL Brother-in-Arms would’ve recognised the situation and joined the wake respectfully to lend some support for the fallen Hero’s family and friends. You have lost nearly all credibility from your action in this event.

He will be as “sold out” as Jesse within a few years/ Most of these hero’s are private patriots who fly below the radar.
If there was a punch, it surely would have been followed with a knock-down drag out: probably the entire bar….Ventura is out there but I dont see him thankful for a Fallen BROTHER or walking away from a punch.

Jan. 5, 2012 at 8:20amGee, gosh, golly! I sure do like that guy Chris Kyle.
On 3 Jan 12, Brian Kilmead on “Fox and Friends” newscast(?) asked Kyle about Joe Biden’s remark that “We’re not at war per say with the Taliban.” When Kilmead asked for Kyle’s reaction to that statement by Biden, Kyle simply said,
“SOUNDS TREASONOUS TO ME!”
Me too!

Jan. 5, 2012 at 8:18amJessie was out of line to use that forum to express his views. it was disrespectful.
Our troops mostly go into the armed forces with the glorious notion to protect our country and our freedoms.
However, the President and the military-industrial complex exploit that patriotism to commit our troops without congressional authority (illegal) under UN or NATO command (world police) to assassinate (illegal) world leaders at will in order to increase the military spending by the US, our allies, and our enemies, thereby increasing the cash flow into the pockets of immoral leaders and manufacturing owners. And that’s after we support the arms buildup of our enemies like the former Soviet Union and China via food aid that allows them to redirect their funds to further military spending and thereby justifies our increased military spending. Wake up, it’s been happening for hundreds of years. Glenn Beck, where are you on these issues? Israel can support itself.

Jan. 5, 2012 at 8:17amYou can go to all the Navy schools UDT and BUD’s. Seals are picked and have to serve six months with a team before they are ask to join. That is why they are the BEST! They are the few.
That was a wasted punch, Ventura show why he was not ask to join a seal team. There is no “I” in team.
