CAIR Will Hold ‘Washington State Muslims Day’ Against ‘Islamophobia’ on MLK Day

An initiative aimed at stopping discrimination and educating lawmakers about Islamophobia or an attempt to get politicians to “pander to Islamists?” You decide.

An upcoming event that is said to be honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is set to unfold this upcoming Monday. It is on this day that more than 400 Muslims are scheduled to meet with elected representatives as part of the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ “Washington State Muslims Day.”

While CAIR leaders dub the annual event a day of honor for King, others find it offensive and see it as a co-opting of the holiday that celebrates the life of the civil rights leader. The fifth annual event will take place at the Washington state capitol in just one week. There will be a march, legislative appointments and other related activities.

According to organizers, “Muslims Day” event is aimed at educating lawmakers about Islamophobia as well as anti-Muslim incidents. The end goal is to encourage these state lawmakers to speak out against hate crimes and anti-Muslim commentary. Additionally, the meetings that are to be held with politicians will purportedly focus upon the state’s budget and the need for public programs.

“This event will provide an opportunity for Muslims from the majority of our state’s legislative districts to learn more about the political process and to meet their elected representatives,” explained Arsalan Bukhari, the executive director of CAIR’s Washington affiliate. “Muslim constituents will work to make lawmakers aware of the growing problem of Islamophobia and of the veiled and camouflaged manner in which it is being promoted,” he continued.

Despite these benign claims, though, some bloggers have come out against the effort. Creeping Sharia, for instance, wrote a piece entitled, “Terror-linked CAIR hijacks MLK Jr Day, converts to ‘Muslims Day.” The article concludes:

If you live in Washington, Contact Your Elected Officials en masse and tell them not to pander to Islamists like terror-linked CAIR and consider forming a counter procession next Monday.

CAIR to Hold Washington State Muslims Day on Martin Luther King Day Blogger Pamela Gellar used some extremely strong words to describe last year’s event:

It is not lost on me that the Hamas group CAIR would hijack the annual day of remembrance from the passionate zionist and anti-supremacist, Dr. Martin Luther King. They have no shame and no respect for anyone or anything except advancing Islam and the sharia in the West. [...]

CAIR is vulger, debased and utterly morally bankrupt, but they know that the corrupt black leadership like Sharpton and Jackson will go along, because they are demagogues as well. Dr. King would despise them. The treatment of black people in Islamic societies is abhorrent — they are abid, slaves.

These descriptions and proclamations rail against CAIR’s claims — that this event is simply a family-oriented opportunity to engage with lawmakers, while ensuring that a minority’s voice is heard. According to CAIR’s web site, these are some of the things that Muslim families can expect to gain from partaking in the day:

You will learn how legislation is enacted and how it impacts your life on an every day basis
You will see first-hand how state politics works through tours, panel discussions and lectures.
You will have the unique opportunity speak to your elected officials face to face, express your concerns and listen to their positions on issues important to you and your family.

Participants will also provide lawmakers and their staff with English translations of the Quran, the Islamic holy book.

  That is true the Arabs own horse farms here and buy horses here. Good horses sell in the millions each and the barns on these farms cost more than most houses. It’s a business and the farms are for the most part opperated by local people the Arabs are rarely here. They pay the people good money to keep the farms up and some of the workers even live on the farms in houses paid for by the Arabs. We may even get some of your gas money from them. THANK YOU

  it’s about time they learn how to play this game of ethnic partisan identity. if other minorities have done it-good for the muslims for catching on.personally i abhor ethnic or religious partisan identiy[it's reactionary and offensive ] but in this case i’ll make an exception. and in the case of muslims-where anti muslim propaganda is rampant in the main stream media and as we are in muslim countries killing them-it is right and necessary for this to be happening. The fox media is gonna go nuts on this one. of course they have to walk a fine line since even they won’t publically call for war against all muslims[which they wish they could but that is too blatently and overtly admitting to being a 21stc genocidist.] Wish of course they are but are too cowardly to own up to.

I hope that many photos are taken by patriots of EVERY ATTENDEE to determine how many to indict once we change leaders.

  Sounds like he was kicked out of the Muslim community, and they tipped off the police and the FBI about the guy. We often see people saying “Why don’t the Muslims do more?” Looks like they stepped up in this case.

The sooner Black Americans realize that most Arabs are as racist as Nazis, they will stop converting to Islam. In Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Yemen they still traffic Black Africans in slavery. The fact that Obama bowed his head to any of those Arab leaders shows that he pledges his allegiance to them. He certainly helped the “Arab Spring” along.   I believe the courts should give the right to freedom of religion and beliefs. But I feel Islam should be practiced only by Muslims and people interested in Islam. Sharia law is a very complicated subjected to explain to non-Muslims.

  No, you two will be surprised at how I can never agree with your views on Islam. My family always donates money to the needy; we help with anyone less fortunate then we are; During the fast of Ramadan we fast to help us understand how others go without, and we also have a very close connection to non-Muslims in our community. Islam is not evil or oppressive to other people. Like all religions different people interpret their faith differently and it does effect their society one way or the other. I’m faithful to God.   How is The Shari’ah complex? It demands that Kafir be humiliated, dominated, become Dhimmi and pay the Jizya (since they cannot serve as Mujahideen), and ultimately be killed for rejecting the Ummah.
  
  If the will of Allah is world-wide Khilafah, then must not The Shari’ah be applied to Kafir?
  
  Mustn’t a Mujahideen shroud themselves in al-Taqiy’ya and say “no”, in order to pacify the Kafir?

  Actually, this country was founded on the principle of religious freedom. Since @Dem is obviously not attempting to force his beliefs on anyone here, nor threatening anyone’s way of life, it is shameful that you automatically denounce him as your enemy. Saying things like “Death to Islam” in response to such an open, friendly initial comment (even pro-American), makes you sound like the violent one. Not to mention that suggesting he leave before the “Great Purge” (seriously?!) sounds very reminiscent of things Nazi-supporters said regarding the Jews in 1930′s Germany.
