Here’s one thing to note about Chris Matthews’s MSNBC show “Hardball”: it airs at 5 pm ET, but then that show is recorded and rebroadcast at 7 pm ET. That’s important because it raises a question: If you make a mistake at 5, will it show up at 7? We seem to have our answer now –Â no.
The ever-vigilant team over at NewsBusters noticed that during the 5 pm show, Matthews made the “preposterous” claim that Barack Obama added only 13 people to the federal workforce between 2009 and 2010. He used the figures to defend the president against criticism that he’s expanding government jobs while the private sector is shrinking. But there’s only one problem: MSNBC and Matthews misread the numbers, and even aired the wrong figures. And they must have noticed it, because the 7pm broadcast had brand new audio for the relevant section.
NewsBusters has the comparison:
To be fair, it is good that MSNBC corrected its error. But it would seem that by doing so, it negates the entire point Matthews and the segment was trying to make. That is the ironic part.
By the way, the difference in the numbers is 12,897 12,987 jobs. (We’ll re-record later.)
And in case you’re wondering, the official video on MSNBC still has the error:

Jan. 13, 2012 at 10:56amObama just created a whole new government entity with the recess appointment of the consumer advocacy czar. That wing of government must have employees coming on board. Did Chris count those new employees? Are the new hires being offset by the military reductions. He is letting go thousands of military, they are federal employees you know. Will they be counted as unemployed? If anyone thinks the size of government is shrinking under Obama I’ll have what you’re smoking.

Jan. 13, 2012 at 2:18pmcatpbj…msnbc is your barometer of truth? You got Ed Shultz as the “star” for God’s sake. You got O’Donnell an avowed socialist. You got Maddow who has no lable , don’t even know if she’s a he or a she. Chris Matthews who says the potus has only hired 13 “new” employees. And last but certainly not least, ya got Big Money Al Sharpton. The right Reverend. The pool of holy water. The master of “fact” creation. The clown of the airwaves. And this is who you turn to shine the light unto your path seeking truth? I don’t even know you but you can’t hold your face straight and say, “yeah, thems my guys”. It’s so bad over there that Sharpton replaces Olbermann and that’s called progress? Now that’s funny I don’t care who you are!!!

Jan. 13, 2012 at 8:39amRon Paul is the ONLY candidate who doesn’t just talk about balancing the budget, but who has a full plan to get it done.
Cuts $1 trillion in spending during the first year of Ron Paul’s presidency, eliminating five cabinet departments (Energy, HUD, Commerce, Interior, and Education), abolishing the Transportation Security Administration and returning responsibility for security to private property owners, abolishing corporate subsidies, stopping foreign aid, ending foreign wars, and returning most other spending to 2006 levels.
CUTTING GOVERNMENT WASTE:
Makes a 10% reduction in the federal workforce, slashes Congressional pay and perks, and curbs excessive federal travel. To stand with the American People, President Paul will take a salary of $39,336, approximately equal to the median personal income of the American worker.

Jan. 13, 2012 at 9:53amTimeframe in terms of building something, especially a structure that has already been built is never “5 years out”.
If the scope is set (which it is with buildings, typically), the only balancing points are time and money. Spend more money, get it done in less time. Spend more time, get it done with less money.
Granted, this does NOT apply to federal construction projects, which spend more money to get it done later (look at the Big Dig in Boston for a prime example).
So don’t go worrying about that. We are the most adaptable nation ever to have been devised by men. Be bold. Reject the status quo.
