NASA’s Newest Video: See the Milky Way Rise Over Earth’s Horizon

The white haze past Earth is the Milky Way.
As Gizmodo rightly notes, it is almost on a weekly basis that the “most amazing” video of Earth taken from the International Space Station graces the Internet. This week is no different.
But, as Gizmodo also points out, this one isn’t stunning visual of the northern lights or major cities from space. The latest from the ISS taken on Dec. 29, 2011, shows the Milky Way above Earth’s horizon and lightning over Africa.
Watch the footage here (Note: Look closely. NASA says you can spot the Lovejoy Comet near the Milky Way):
According to NASA’s description on YouTube, the Milky Way is the “hazy band of white light” at the beginning of the video and the bright, white light at the end is the sun over the ocean.

If we are still a viable Republic at that date, then we can look to the skies, thank God and get on with repairing the Nations culture, fiscals, private and governmental sectors of management.
The Earth, Heavens and the folks that inhabit all will rejoice.

Why does god always have to be mentioned? Can’t anything just be nice without invoking god all the time. This is what makes conservatives sound nuts.

Posted on January 20, 2012 at 5:59amWhy does the mention of God bother you? To answer your question I enjoy giving God credit for his beauty. It’s my right to do so and I will when the spirt moves me to do so. God Bless you and thank you for giving me a chance to praise HIM again.

Posted on January 20, 2012 at 6:06amSorry propat… But it is “God” not “god.” Allah is a “god”, not “God.” Totally different dieties and connotations. If you want to complain about us, at least get the basics right. And so far as making us look nuts. I’d say that we are in very good company. The Founding Fathers invoked the name of “God” over, and over, and over … even in our Constitution.

Then a chaplain would know that secret societies are frowned upon in God’s word…
Ephesians 5:12
James 5:12
Mathew 5:34-37
There are also mosaic laws condemning idolatry and symbols used in rituals…as well as to not take oaths
Just trying to keep a professed brother from stumbling.

Posted on January 20, 2012 at 1:38amI am amazed at the number of people who have never seen the real stars at night, it is one of the things to add to a “bucket list”. Get far away about (100 miles) from all artificial light sources on a moonless night and look up.

Posted on January 20, 2012 at 2:22amI live out in the Country where I can see the stars at night.I have seen the milky way spread across the sky so many times.Been into astronomy since I was a youth.See Saturn’s rings, four of Jipiter’s larger moon through a telescope..Back in the late 70′s, as a teen, a friend and I observed the planet Mars go into retrograde motion over a period of a few months. Mars was in Gemini at the time and appeared to over take it and then back up…..Awesome stuff!

Posted on January 20, 2012 at 1:36amIt all was just some freak accident that just happened and nothing has purpose whatsoever. We’re just floating around helplessly, and hopelessly. There is no meaning. Let’s all be atheists and believe in nothing. Let’s put all our faith and trust in our minds. Our brains were made to know and to find the answers to all things.
I’m pretty sure my dog thinks his brain knows all things too.

It was after a serious job and career ending accident. But with a lot of rethinking and incredible selfless help from family, neighbors and (unknown but now) friends and the understanding now that everything has a cause and an effect. I am. Now I can (just sitting around and or being in bed 24/7) still be amazed at the world around me. How blessed we humans are. I hope you read this God bless you.

Posted on January 20, 2012 at 11:00amYou just can’t handle the thought that there is no purpose and you’re meaningless. That’s the problem: your own ego. It’s your idiot way of thinking that has allowed much of the planet to be completely trashed and polluted. Sorry, dingus, but there is no god who is going to fix this. It IS up to us. It IS up to the human brain. Too bad most people prefer intellectual laziness and that Sky Daddy will help you. Morons.

You’re right. Purpose doesn’t exist. Judgement doesn’t exist. Hope doesn’t exist. Love doesn’t exist. Hate doesn’t exist. Evil doesn’t exist. Miracles don’t happen. Harmony doesn’t exist. The ability to worship doesn’t exist. The need to believe in something doesn’t exist. We know and comprehend everything!
But enough with the ego trip. I hope you hold yourself to the same high standard you hold others to.
