Report: DHS Expels 2 Brits From U.S. Over ‘Destroy America’ Twitter Joke

Two British tourists were kicked out of America after joking on Twitter that they were going to “destroy America” and “dig up Marilyn Monroe,” according to the Daily Mail.

After landing in Los Angeles International Airport with his friend Emily Bunting, authorities detained and handcuff Leigh Van Bryan, 26, who was then moved into a guarded cell for 12 hours as a result of the offending tweet.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) flagged Bryan as a potential threat after he tweeted out to friends the following message about his Hollywood plans: ‘Free this week, for quick gossip/prep before I go and destroy America’.

Leigh’s interrogation included questions about a tweet that he claims is a quote from hit US comedy Family Guy which read: ’3 weeks today, we’re totally in LA p****** people off on Hollywood Blvd and diggin’ Marilyn Monroe up.’

Believe it or not, Leigh claims DHS went looking in his bag for spades and shovels. He also claimed the Feds believed that his female companion was going to be his lookout during the exhumation of Marilyn Monroe.

According to the Daily Mail, the DHS officers’ suspicion was enough to bar the two from entering the country now, and perhaps even in the future. Bunting said:

‘The officials [DHS] told us we were not allowed in to the country because of Leigh’s tweet. They wanted to know what we were going to do.They asked why we wanted to destroy America and we tried to explain it meant to get trashed and party. I almost burst out laughing when they asked me if I was going to be Leigh’s lookout while he dug up Marilyn Monroe.”

The incident with the two Brits comes on the heels of national news stories that the FBI and DHS are in fact monitoring social media, and are developing better software to that effect.

  How idiotic. They claim border crossings are down due to the lack of jobs, but this just means a higher percentage of drug smugglers, gangsters and terrorists are now crossing. Good thing we wasted time on these two. I feel so much more at ease knowing these dimwits are on the job.

  Come on it’s funny…look at the picture of the two miserable clods now. Here they were…ready to “destroy America” in a bachanal of debauchery and instead they left whimpering like scolded kids. So much for the hard partying British duo. Yeah..I know..there’s a serious issue of overzealous DHS activity but honestly..I’d rather get a little embarrasment from this than miss a real threat because we were too conscious of offending someone’s sensibilities.

  By the way…remembering that a lot of credible terrorist threats have originated in the UK…I don’t blame the DHS for flagging these two. Was the DHS overzealous? Yes they were. Do I feel sorry for the two “hard partying” losers? No I don’t. In fact I think it’s hysterical that their planned “destruction” of the U.S. turned out to be a dud. I’d rather be a little embarrased at this than to ignore a credible threat because we thought it was just “harmless” chatter.

  They were kicked out because their skin is not brown and they have jobs and planned on returning to their country after they were done spending their own money. BUT if they were Mex!can and came here to take a job away from an american and planned on getting on food stamps and welfare, push out a few kids, use the er as their own personal doctor and not pay any bills, and commit crimes against americans, rob, rape and molest children, then DHS would let them stay!   Has anyone else noticed theblaze censoring more and more comments? I posted a couple anti Obama comments that posted then dissappeared on this thread. Blaze didnt use to do that but they are doing it more and more…. Only reason I come to this site vs Drudge is so I can chat with others. If Blaze keeps censoring comments I wont be coming back. Then GBTV wont be the only fail under Glenns Belt., soon TheBlaze will start to lose its veiwership as well… I know this to be true because you couldnt be a bigger Beck fan than me, but his business practices as of late are disturbing. Funny thing is, Marilyn Monroe is buried in a vault, not underground, Also, if they were really intending to do this, they would get caught and charged with desecrating a grave. To tweet like this is idiotic. It’s amazing how the feds found out. I wonder what will happen when they find a “real” terrorist.

This is a problem.
If government drones working for TSA and DHS can do this sort of thing after misinterpreting a tweet or an offhand comment in an airport line, we are swimming in very dangerous waters.
If the government gets full control of the internet there will be no limit to what they can do in the future.
