CNN: Pelosi May Have Broken the Law With Fundraising Comment on Capitol Hill

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said she she was willing to do anything to get Obamacare passed? Here’s a refresher:

You go through the gate. If the gate’s closed, you go over the fence. If the fence is too high, we’ll pole vault in. If that doesn’t work, we’ll parachute in. But we’re going to get health care reform passed for the American people.

Well, it could be that same approach to fundraising that now has her in hot water. According to CNN, the House Minority Leader may have broken the law when she solicited donations during a speech in the Capitol building.

CNN explains:

At a Capitol Hill press conference Thursday, Pelosi was making the case for campaign finance reform and said Democrats will disclose donors to their political groups, even when the law doesn’t require it.

During her comments, she said “by the way we’re asking people to contribute to us if they want to elect more reformers to Congress so we can do away with super PACs – we can do away with secret contributions.”

So what’s so odd about that statement? Well, the part where she says “we’re asking people to contribute” while standing inside the U.S. Capitol is. That’s because, as CNN notes, “The law prohibits any kind of fundraising on federal grounds.”

A Pelosi spokesman, Drew Hammil, denied any wrongdoing.

The comment was very clearly referring to our efforts to disclose, reform and amend,” he told CNN. “Reporters have repeatedly asked the Leader how to square fundraising and reform policy so that’s why she said we have to raise money to elect more reformers. That is her pitch to supporters.”

In 1997, the Clinton administration (and Al Gore) faced a probe over whether he solicited donations by making campaign phone calls from the Oval Office. The law that forbids such conduct is called the Pendleton Act.

  Weak, weak supposition and report. “We are asking people to contribute to us” is a statement of action and certainly not a direct solicitation of funds. In the context of the overall statement its not even close to fundraising.

  They will never lay a glove on Pelosi, she could kill someone on national tv and they would tell us all that we did not just see, what we think we saw. She uses insider trading, she used information she had gained in her position, to give that information to her husband and his partner on a land deal that made them, and her millions of dollars, and she also helped get her husband’s partner’s wife an appointment as an ambassador. Her position is the only position in the Untied States, where insider trading is allowed. Maybe it was allowed, but is it ethical, that if any of us did what she did, we would be in a cell next to Martha Stewart. But going a bit further, if she used the info just for herself, I could see that she could get away with it, but she shared that information with a spouse and his business partner, THAT should be the illegal part, because of that information she stood to gain millions of dollars personally, and she did. If obama gets dethroned, she will quit I think, especially if the tide changes and the Republicans get both he house and senate. Because, they will come after her with investigation after investigation for ethic violations, same with dirty harry.

He said that there was “no controlling legal authority” — the statute was not “controlling” because the courts had not yet addressed it!   You have to read the words carefully. There are two operative words in the statement that Pelosi would have trouble explaining.

  OK, lets say they are successful and we have socialism/communism. Do these traitors actually think they will not be discarded like a McDonald’s hamburger box after the burger is eaten?
  Nowhere, ever, have these forms of government been able to hold the oppressive weight they place on the economies. Look at Western Europe, Greece, etc.
  Mind you… everyone will have the same status…….poor. Oh, I forgot, that is except the ones wielding the power. They will live in opulence, like the Saudi kings, or like Saddem Hussein, or Mubarek, or Assad. The rest will have nothing, which, at some point, will lead to yet another revolution.

My first thought after reading The Blaze articles was of Leona Helmsley, the Queen of Mean” and her quote “We don’t pay taxes, only the little people pay taxes”.

She was found guilty of tax evasion and her multiple year sentence was reduced significantly to several months and some community service.

Should we consider the minority speaker the new “Queen of Mean”?

  Look at the House rules, we need 2/3rds and we are just short.
  To enforce Constitutional Law upon the President We need that and 2/3rds in the Senate as well.
  The founders made it hard to remove a sitting President to avoid a Coup de ta.
  The founders also wrote that the Boot of opressive Government would have to grind the American people very hard before they would stand up to it but that Our system would slow a Tyrant down long enough for this to take place and while we still had the vote.

It was Al Gore who was under investigation during his tenure as VP for making campaign phone calls to a Buddhist temple in California while sitting in his office in the White House. He and his lawyer quoted “No Controlling Legal Authority”, meaning no one’s ever been charged with this before, and got off scott free.

The House holds the purse strings just as he said when he was working on his 2010 re-election. Now, he sits there while the 0bama juggernaut chugs along building speed.   I think somethings wrong with that Boehner dude, the crying and whats with that mouth of his? Its like he’s got some nervous mouth-tick or twich or something weird goin on. Gives me the creeps to watch him. He is another one thats shelf-life has long been past the “best if used before” date. I think a perfect due-date for these congress and senate people is when they become multi-millionaires from a less than 200-K salary (wich is about the beginning of a third term or so) from all of the insider-trading and ‘secret info’ they are privvy to its time for them to be sent packin. You know like how one of them just happens to buy this vacant overgrown abandoned piece of property that noone has wanted for decades and they get it for the back-taxes on it and all of a sudden SHAZAM! and the Mac Donalds corp. or Taco Bell or someone like that all of a sudden wants to put a fast-food joint on that worthless piece of property all of a sudden and some crook now makes a grip on a junk piece of property that noone wanted for years and years untill a little bird landed on their shoulder and wispered in their ear “tweet tweet, you might wanna buy that vacant lot over there real soon like, its called bird property ya know , like cheap cheap!”. Friggin crooks, I remember when Martha Stewart got tossed in the cross-bar hotel for a mere 44-K worth of that stuff they do on a daily basis probably.

Nothing will happen to her, no prosecution or anything if she faces prosecution or disciplinary action at all. Pelosi is too well entrenched in the DC old guard.
