WH Chief of Staff: Obamacare Allows the President to Tell a Private Company They Have to Offer a Product, and Offer It for Free

Newly appointed White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew appeared on five news programs Sunday and made stunning statements during at least three of his appearances. In addition to making misleading remarks on NBC and CNN in regards to the law regarding filibustering a budget vote, despite once being the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Lew also claimed that the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. ObamaCare) gives the President the authority to tell a private company that they have to offer a product and offer it for free.
The stunning claim came during Lew’s appearance on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. The White House Chief of Staff appeared to discuss the release of President Obama’s budget, but first fielded questions from Wallace regarding the President’s decision to revise part of his controversial decision on a birth control mandate.Fox News reports on the unbelievable admission:
“’The president has the authority under the Affordable Care Act to have these kinds of rules take effect,’ Lew said in response to the question of how the president can force a private company to provide a product free of charge.
In addition, Lew argued, that providing contraception will not cost insurance companies anything,
‘If you were looking at the actuarial projection, the cost of the plan, it costs more to provide a plan without than it does with.’
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a sternly-worded statement Friday in response to the president’s revision to the new rule, which in part calls the decision, ‘unacceptable’ and says it ‘must be corrected.’
‘We didn’t expect to get universal support of the bishops or all Catholics. I think that what we have here is a policy that reflects bringing together two very important principles in a way that’s true to the American tradition. And that’s what the president is trying to do. There are others who want to have a clash over it. We want to bring these two principles together,’ Lew said.
Pointing to statements of support from Catholic Health Association and Catholic charities, Lew said that the policy put forward Friday, ‘is something that should put this issue to rest.’
Lew said despite protests from the bishops, the policy will be finalized in the rules.”
Lew took over for former Chief of Staff Bill Daley at the end of January. Daley, son and brother of former Chicago Mayors Richard J. Daley and Richard M. Daley, reportedly did not support the controversial contraception rule on both politics and policy. Lew’s full interview on Fox News Sunday:
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. No to Ron Paul….unless he changes his stand on legalizing drugs and is willing to seriously hurt any country that tries to hurt Israel. If he makes those changes I could consider him. We cannot stand back and let Israel get wiped out. And it’s just foolish to allow drugs to be legal. We could stop most of the drugs that come into this country by securing the borders. If you would inquire of people who don’t like Ron Paul, you would learn that those two issues are what stands in his way to being President. Santorum would be a good President. That’s who I’m voting for as of the present moment.

So, I apologize for not believing you.

He doesn’t want to legalize drugs. Now you are as big of a liar as Beck. He says it is a state issue and beyond the powers of the fed as outlined in the constitution. Send it back to the states and if all 50 states say its illegal, guess what, it’s illegal in the entire country. This and Israel(and I am an Israel supporting Jew) is where Beck and his supporters become progressives. There is no argument to be made for illegal drugs at the fed level. NONE! Wake up.

Posted on February 13, 2012 at 2:02pm@Captain Crunch: I’ll second what previous blogger said about legalizing drugs. It’s a state issue, not something where Paul wants to have a federal law making them legal. Big difference, and if drugs were legalized, or at least states decided the issue, the Mexican drug cartels would be cut off at the knees. Users would have no need for their illegal drugs when they can just walk into Walgreens or the liquor store and buy them like alcohol, if it’s legal in their state.
When it comes to Israel, Ron Paul is probably the best friend Israel has and too many pro-war conservatives don’t even realize it. He’s in favor of leaving them alone and not telling them what to do. Us being joined at the hip with Israel may do them more harm than good with their situation. Oh, and back in the 1980′s, when Israel bombed one of Saddam’s weapons facilities, Congress condemned it, but there was Ron Paul, all by himself, defending Israel’s right to defend herself. Like Palin said, Ron Paul supports Israel, just not the same way as other politicians.
If anyone has dangerous policies it’s Santorum, who has no real plan to cut spending and wants to expand the wars in the middle east. That’s a recipe for disaster. Stretching our military thin and bankrupting the country so eventually we won’t be able to afford defending even our own soil. Now THAT is dangerous.

I will film me burning it and post it to the internet. I hope you all do the same.
I don’t understand why the millions of small business owners don’t stand up as one and take this bill down. When a government can turn down 28 states that have filed that this bill is unconstitutional, we have a serious problem in this country. And now the 1st amendment has been slapped in the face with the whole religious movement going against this bill. How much more of a DICTATOR can this man become?
I am personally ashamed to live in this country today. I used to be a proud American and even served my country. Now, I am not sure what is left to protect. All of our freedom and rights have been stripped away and our constitution has been burned by Executive Orders. We need a revolution, again, because there is no where else to go.

Dude he wasn’t dissing fat people he was saying that fat people would die during the economic collapse as a part of the overall plan, culling the herd is exactly what the plan for obamacare is, why do you think that they started really lowering the boom on Sarah Palin after she started suggesting that the plan included death panels? She hit the nail right on the head and they didn’t want that part of bobamacare to be made public. Read something about Piven and Alinsky it is all there in black and white and it is being followed to the T. We are just lambs being led to slaughter unless we stand up and say no more right now.

Insurance companies do not need to “save” money. Every dime that is paid out comes (quite rightfully) from premiums paid by you and I. Surely after 13 generations you should understand that.

Posted on February 12, 2012 at 9:54pmThe policy change is a distinction without a difference. The real issue is not about contraception or abortion. It is about whether the government can tell a private company that they must provide a good or service at no charge, and ordering religious organizations to conform to a government mandate. In the first instance, if government can compel a company to provide a good or service at no charge, then what is to prevent the government from directing, for example, Wal Mart to provide free groceries to everyone, or a utility to provide free power, etc. And if the government can dictate that a religion must violate it’s tenets in one instance, what is to prevent it from telling that religion what it can or must preach? It seems to me that requiring an insurance company to provide free coverage constitutes a deprivation of property without due process. It’s equally clear that requiring a religious organization to provide coverage, either directly or indirectly, violates the First Amendment’s separation of church and state.

Posted on February 12, 2012 at 11:57pmCorrect. The question is, why is the congress not moving on this? Why is the Supreme Court not moving on this? Why are the US companies that will be affected not moving on this? Why are the free people of the United States not moving on this? Why are the American people so ignorant? Why is the press allowing this to go unchallenged?
