MSNBC’s Martin Bashir Compares Santorum to Mass Murdering Communist Joseph Stalin

MSNBC host Martin Bashir isn’t one to shy away from issuing far-flung comparisons. This time, however, the unabashedly liberal newscaster may have gone several steps over the line. Bashir, in his “Clear the Air” segment, compared GOP contender Rick Santorum to mass-murdering, Communist dictator Joseph Stalin.

During one of his typical ravings, the MSNBC anchor connected the former Pennsylvania senator to George Orwell’s Big Brother from 1984. This was merely the icing on a cake, however, as Bashir saved his harshest comparison for last: ”If you listen carefully to Rick Santorum, he sounds more like Stalin than Pope Innocent III.”

To provide a backdrop for his slander, Bashir played a clip of Santorum where he then contrasted, “…When we last saw the Republican front-runner Rick Santorum speaking before a crowd yesterday, all we could think of was George Orwell’s novel 1984 about a society dominated by the most extreme form of totalitarianism.” Before showing a clip of the movie version of 1984, he added, “See if you can spot the similarities.”

The diligent crew at Newsbusters brings us the video clip. Transcript follows below:

RICK SANTORUM: -The loud voices that support the Republican Party and the conservative cause!

BIG BROTHER (from 1984): One week from now, in this very square, we shall have a demonstration of our resolve.

BASHIR: The similarities with George Orwell’s novel and that movie are not just superficial. No, Rick Santorum holds some pretty stern views on a number of important issues and he regularly sounds like a theocrat. For example, he has asserted that the right to privacy does not exist and has equated same sex relationships with bestiality.

BIG BROTHER: Brothers and sisters, the endless catalogue of bestial atrocities that will inevitably ensue from this appalling act, must, can, and will be terminated.

BASHIR: Mr. Santorum has pledged to repeal all federal funding for contraception and says individual states should be allowed to outlaw any kind of birth control.

BIG BROTHER: The forces of darkness and the treasonable maggots who collaborate with them, must, can and will be wiped from the face of the Earth!

BASHIR: In reviewing his book It Takes a Family, one writer said “Mr. Santorum has one of the finest minds of the 13th century.” But I’m not so sure. If you listen carefully to Rick Santorum, he sounds more like Stalin than Pope Innocent III. Thanks so much for watching.

  Yeah, that’s pretty stupid. Agreed. But if I had a dollar for every comparison of President Obama to Stalin or Hitler I could take a trip to, I don’t know, Stalingrad maybe.
  
  Good book though. Your education is lacking if you’ve never actually read it. Check it out from the library. After that, watch the movie which is actually pretty good. Orwell’s wife refused to allow anyone to make the movie unless it was an actual, gritty depiction of the book, rather than a “modernized” version. Richard Burton as O’Brien and John Hurt as Winston Smith.

  That being said, Santorum isn’t for limited Government. He is for limited Government…except in areas he wants to change.
  
  He has talked about going after the pornography industry. How is he going to do that? If a porn website is based outside of our country, will he make it inaccessible to people in the States?
  
  He has talked about that there is no right to privacy in the Constitution, and that the way homosexual acts can be regulated is the same way child molestation, bestiality and others. What does that mean? If I see two guys who I suspect are gay go into a house together, can I call the police and they will go knock down the door? If some guy at a bar is talking to a friend about a sexual encounter with another man, and someone overhears that, can the person then go tell the police and have that man arrested?
  
  Santorum talked about fatherhood classes….who is going to pay for that?
  
  Either Santorum really means everything he says, which is scary to me.
  Or he’s saying this to win the Republican vote and will try to become moderate in the general, which no one will buy.

Stephanopholas tried to do that with Romney during one of the debates but Romney just shut him down good and the audience booed when George just went on and on about it. Terrible, terrible analogy. Although there’s no doubt Santorum puts his social agenda far above any fiscal one (and for that he should be avoided), that’s a FAR cry from Stalin.

The 1984 Big Brother reference is a bit closer, but then Bashir could say the same about Obama… and yet doesn’t. Go figure.

That passage is a lot closer to a description of the “Occupy” protestors in modern times than Rick Santorum. Santorum is just referencing the “silent majority” of free thinking Conservatives. We’re the ones who might not complain about bad service, but we simply won’t come back. We vote with our dollar, and we intrinsically understand the free market. We live it every day.

Martin Bashir hopes to be included as one of the “JournOlist’s”, just spouting the same drivel that trips off the lips of every other talking head at MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, NPR,ad nauseum. Rick Santorum has never said that he would stop anyone from using contraceptives. It is a damnable lie and THEY KNOW IT!

This is a purposeful smear campaign started by George Stephonopolis, coordinated with the White House and probably the DNC, and is being carried by all the sad, weak minions who want to be thanked by The One once he re-elected (Ain’t gonna happen!)

What a joke! I’m not for Santorum, but this is ridiculous. One of the reasons I’m not is because of a pastor supporting him who went after the Mormons (you know the people with the horns who blow up all kind of planes) and santorum has not repudiated him or distanced himself from him!
