NFL Moves 2012 Season Opener to Accommodate Obama’s DNC Speech
For the second year running, the worlds of the NFL and politics collide.
The National Football League announced Tuesday that it will open the 2012 season on a Wednesday night instead of Thursday to avoid conflicting with President Obama’s Democratic National Convention speech.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that the kickoff game, to be hosted by the Super Bowl champion New York Giants, will be now be September 5 rather than September 6.
The L.A. Times adds:
Obama is scheduled to accept his party’s nomination for a second term the following night in Charlotte at Bank of America Stadium, home to the city’s pro-football franchise the Carolina Panthers.
It will mark the second straight year that politics and football threatened to conflict, but last year it was Obama altering his schedule to accommodate the NFL.
The White House announced plans for a joint session address to Congress during prime time last September so Obama could discuss his new jobs plan. First, he had to change the date after Republicans complained he would be stepping on a planned GOP debate. Then he had to move the speech up an hour, just before prime time, to ensure that his remarks would be finished in time for kickoff of the 2011 season opener between the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints.
This move, however, is no small feat. Shifting the season opener to accommodate the president’s speech ensures Obama will have the largest audience possible.
Fortunately or unfortunately, the collateral damage in this equation is Vice President Joe Biden’s speech, which will now overshadowed.

Posted on March 1, 2012 at 4:12amThe NFL is being modest in their explanation. They are really moving it to a Wednesday so THEY get the most viewers.
I can’t wait for that Tuesday night . . . the last time Obama will seem relatively important.

Posted on February 29, 2012 at 5:58amI realize he is POTUS but this is for the DEMOCRAT CONVENTION not the State of the Union address, I realize the number of black Americans dominate NFL, NBA and MLB over any other color. It is a shame that a pro sport will take a side politically and do this. I am sick and tired of people giving Hussain a free ride. I am sick and tired of people shy-ing away from saying he’s only POTUS because he is black. I am not PC nor am I racist, I just hate this socialist black American, his gangsta politics, his islamic terrorist loving ass and the media left that support his anti America, anti Constitution agenda. This is just like the NBA commish attending a $30,000 a plate Barry Hussain fundraiser in O-town before the all star game.

At the start of the 2011 season, the total players of color were 38.3 percent. The opening day rosters were 61.5 percent white, 27 percent Latino, 2.1 percent Asian, 0.4 percent Native American or Native Alaskan and 0.3 percent Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander.

Posted on February 29, 2012 at 3:13amLet the Marxist have his day in the sun. If enough American voters wake up before Election Day, the DNC address will be one of the last times we’ll be subjected to the deception and propaganda that spews from his elitist facial orifice. If the NFL season can start on a Thursday, it can certainly start a day earlier without much controversy.
That said, I’ll start concerning myself with elections and football when we get that far. We still have an Occupier Spring, Summer of Rage, and a time-traveling caveman’s furious attempt to hasten the return of the Mah’di to wrap ourselves around in the coming days.

Posted on February 29, 2012 at 12:26amI cant wait for the Republican Convention – no matter who the candidate is – speakers like Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio, Chris Christie, Herman Cain, Sarah Palin, Santorum, Gingrich, Romney, Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry and others. This is going to be a Super Bowl Line Up!
I cant imagine who is going to rally the crowd at the Democratic Conventions – Al Gore, Hilary, Polosi, Harry Reed, OWS’ers, Soros, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Warren Buffets Secretary.
I thank I have to shampoo the dog that evening.
And People say the Republicans are going to lose to Obama – This will be the Greatest Republican Convention of all times – even for the ones with little faith.
