Chris Matthews Says Obama Can Cause a Thrill in the American People

MSNBC host Chris Matthews created quite a stir back in 2008 when he announced that then-candidate Barack Obama caused a “thrill” to go up his leg. The comment gained a plethora of attention (not to mention giggles from critics), as it showed the level of adoration that media figures, like Matthews, had for the Democratic contender. Now, nearly four years later, it seems the “thrill” is back.

During Tuesday evening’s election coverage, the host offered a rare bit of positive commentary when he said that Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s has the ability to operate well without a teleprompter. Despite this compliment, Matthews maintained that Obama does a better job because he has both the head and the heart to make his messaging compelling.

Mediaite reports:

During Tuesday’s election night coverage on MSNBC, Chris Matthews again discussed the thrill-causing tendencies of President Obama. Shortly after Rick Santorum‘s speech, where he pulled a piece of shale out of his pocket, Matthews lauded the Republican hopeful’s ability to go off teleprompter, but thought President Obama still did it better, noting he had both a brain and a heart to charm the American public — and an ability to thrill.

Here’s a portion of the transcript from Matthews’ comments (emphasis added):

“Romney can’t do what that guy just did. And that’s really important. That means on the stump he can’t turn people on. He can’t turn them on after he wins or after he loses. … I think he lacks this guy’s passion, and I think that’s a real loss.

Barack Obama can do both. He has a brain, and he has a heart, and he can cause a thrill in the American people because he has both.

He can have a vision, and he can have a passion to go with that vision. I don’t see it getting together for the Republicans here, and I think it’s a real challenge for them.”

This is at least the second time that the liberal host has spoken about the tingle of excitement that Obama apparently has the power to cause. During a 2008 broadcast, he said, “It’s part of reporting this case, this election, the feeling most people get when they hear Barack Obama’s speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don’t have that too often.”

  Obama has done precious little demonstrate the existence of brain or heart. Matthews is starting to look like an old queen, though, so maybe he should take his tingles and thrills to RuPaul’s Drag Race, where they would be more appreciated.

  Mr. Obama has no feeling for anyone other than himself. It is obviously a defense mechanism he developed to deal with the fact he was abandoned by both parents. Superiority complexes are often a cover for a very scared insecure person. As to his brain, one wouldn’t know whether the guy is intelligent or not, because he is so much of an ideologue he wouldn’t change his mind even if it were inexplicably proven to be mathematically or statistically incorrect. As to the thrill, he only thrilled liberals.
  
  Many whites in this country voted for him because of some promise of expiation for past things in which no living person in the U.S. had a hand. Even though everyone knew he was the least qualified and wasn’t being properly vetted and was radically polarizing, they pulled the lever hoping for that change. That didn’t work. It won’t work. It never will work.
  
  I used to like Chris Matthews. Even though he was was out liberal, he always seemed to be fair. That is no longer the case. He is not a journalist. He is an entertainer, not a very good one mind you, but an entertainer all the same. His opinion is just that, opinion. It has no veracity. It reflects his world view. He is just angry that people now recognize this fact and refute his “news” stories.

  i agree with many people on the board here, and clearly chris matthews is a closet case…. but what that creep says is correct… While everyone here hates BO, He does motivate and engage democrats to get our of their seat and vote & volunteer for him.
  
  We’ve seen how voter turnouts for Mitt, Newt, Rick and Ron are down like 50% from 2008. Republicans just aren’t into this crop of candidates and its hard to blame us. They are weak candidates, they inspire nothing, and thats why BO is going to win, probably in a landslide, which he will call a “mandate” to do whatever he wants… So thanks a lot GOP.

  I recently bought an internet-capable LCD tv. It even had pre-installed apps and widgets. I’m not the most new tech savvy tool in the box, and I never dealt with widgets before. One of the pre-installed widgets was MSNBC. I quickly learned how to delete widgets before I learned how to install them. My main point is MSNBC was pre-installed in the first place. Looks the the manufacturer is in cahoots with and wants you to watch them. This is how the left tries to suck you in, if you don’t know any better.

Yeah the thrill of all of us working for the gov’t being told by Obama and his cronies of what to do and what to say. The thrill of lower standard of living. The thrill of lack of good medicine. The thrill of food riots. The thrill of celebrating the ones that survived the abortionists and the death panels. I just can’t wait for all these thrills.
