In what could be a stunning turn of events, during an interview with the Ohio News Network this afternoon Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said he would not support the Blunt Amendment, which allows insurers and employers the right to deny health coverage for any service that violates their beliefs or they find morally objectionable; like contraception.
“Blunt-Rubio is being debated I believe later this week. It deals with banning or allowing employers to ban providing female contraception. Have you taken a position on it? He(Santorum) said that he was for that, we’ll talk about personhood in a second,” asked interviewer Jim Heath. “But he’s for that, have taken a position on it?”
“I’m not for the bill,” Romney responded. “But, look, the idea of presidential candidates getting into questions about contraception within a relationship between a man and a woman, husband and wife, I’m not going there.”
Romney’s remarks are stunning considering that during last week’s debate the former Massachusetts governor said when asked about the Obama administration’s contraception mandate; ”I don’t think we’ve seen in the history of this country the kind of attack on religious conscience, religious freedom, religious tolerance that we’ve seen under Barack Obama.”
When Heath tweeted Romney’s answer on ONN, commentators immediately jumped on the perceived flip-flop less than 24 hours following Romney escaping Michigan, inches away from a major embarrassment to outspoken social conservative Rick Santorum.
“That’s pretty remarkable,” The Washington Post’s Greg Sargent wrote of the news. “If Romney knew what he was saying, the Senate GOP caucus, which is set to vote on this amendment tomorrow, may feel as if Romney has pulled the rug out from underneath them. And this has become an important issue for conservatives.”
The candidate’s campaign has immediately refuted the reporting of Romney’s answer, and claims “the way the question was asked was confusing.”
Really?
This is what spokeswoman Andrea Saul told POLITICO as news of Romney’s answer began to spread:
“Governor Romney supports the Blunt Bill because he believes in a conscience exemption in health care for religious institutions and people of faith.”
UPDATE
Romney responded to the issue during an interview on the Howie Carr Show this afternoon, clearing up that “I didn’t understand his question, of course I support the Blunt amendment.”

Feb. 29, 2012 at 7:48pmAnd yet Newt is the biggest RINO. He is the one with big government ideas who was pushing for a federal individual mandate while we in the tea party were fighting against ObamaCare on the Capitol steps.
At least Romney’s was a state amendment adn a mandate for people to get their own insurance. His original mandate was ‘Pay for your own insurance or pay your own bill.’ Tell me what is wrong with that. The Medicaid office has a problem with that, they mandate that everyone is covered whether they pay for insurance or not. You tell me were that is Conservative. That is our socialistic society as it stands today, everyone pays for those who will not pay for themselves. It use to be churches and families, now the government has to take care off everyone, especially the 50% that are on food stamps.
His exchange was to get the government out of health care. That is the opposite of ObamaCare. RomneyCare = Buy private insurance, ObamaCare = Government Insurance under government regulations and mandates. Miles difference. Sadly there was a mandate.

Feb. 29, 2012 at 9:03pmHere we go again. Another anti-Romney hit piece. Romney’s reaction to Obama’s violation of the First Amendment was correct:
”I don‘t think we’ve seen in the history of this country the kind of attack on religious conscience, religious freedom, religious tolerance that we’ve seen under Barack Obama.”
Here Romney’s explaination as to why he purportedly doesn’t support the Blunt Amendment:
“The idea of presidential candidates getting into questions about contraception within a relationship between a man and a woman, a husband and wife, I’m not going there.”
Huh? CLEARLY, Romney misconstrued the topic because his response has absolutely nothing to do with Obama’s attack on religious freedom.
This is a classic example of Obama media trying to trip a Republican candidate into saying something he doesn’t really believe. The liberal fatso phrased his question as a BIRTH CONTROL ISSUE, not a First Amendment issue:
“Blunt-Rubio… that deals with banning or allowing employers to ban providing female contraception.”
Romney’s reply is consistent with his response to John King in the first CNN debate, when King tried to veer the debate away from national issues and Obama’s epic failure as president by asking a similar question about banning the selling of contraceptives.
So, YES, Santarelli, REALLY!

Well, no response from you but I will respond to you none the less.
Please forgive my questioning but, I wanted to make sure we were on the same page, so to speak; that I understood you and you understood me. There are two schools of Free Masons; old school and new school. The old school Masons hold true to the old ways and the new school masons (small m on purpose) do not hold true to anything. Old school Masons build things. New school masons do not. Old school Masons do not allow Mormon’s into their ranks. New school masons allow anyone into their ranks. The new school Free Masons have been taken over by progressives just like our Government has. The old school Free Masons have not.
Neither Glenn nor Mitt are “true” old school Free Masons. Whether they are in the fake new school Free Masons does not matter. Fake does not matter. Also, no self respecting Mormon would bother joining the Free Masons. Neither Glenn or Mitt are Free Masons.
Keep listening to Glenn and stop listening to Mitt. Whether you want to listen to me is also up to you. I hope I have answered your questions and put your mind at ease.

Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the collar of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents. The biker jumps off his Harley, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.
Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly. A reporter has watched the whole event.
The reporter addressing the Harley rider says, ‘Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I’ve seen a man do in my whole life.’
The Harley rider replies, ‘Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger and acted as I felt right.’
The reporter says, ‘Well, I’ll make sure this won’t go unnoticed. I’m a journalist, you know, and tomorrow’s paper will have this story on the front page… So, what do you do for a living and what political affiliation do you have?’
The biker replies, I’m a U.S. Marine and a Republican.
The journalist leaves.
The following morning the biker buys the paper to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads, on the front page:
“U.S. MARINE ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND STEALS HIS LUNCH”
… and THAT pretty much sums up the media’s approach to the news these days …

Feb. 29, 2012 at 7:06pmHow anyone can vote for Romney is beyond me. If the Tea Party backs this guy they have lost all credibility. Romney is Obama light and if the nominee he will lose just like his new buddy John McCain did back in 2008. I for one wont be voting for him and if he is the nominee I may start a write in campaign for another canidate or just vote third party.

Well the write in/3rd party victory isn’t always a win on election day. Its proving a point. I have said over and over on here, between Obama and the clones it doesnt really matter who wins. They are all the same. If you think differently you are just uninformed. There have been plenty of links of the clones in their own words saying what they think about guns, freedom, wars, abortion, spending, debt, and big government. They are progressive, globalist, and social engineers.
No thanks, enjoy Obama for another four. I am voting for Ron Paul.

Feb. 29, 2012 at 6:50pmRomney will LOSE to Obama – he is McCain light. Santorum has a better chance, but he is NO Conservative either. It is a question of whether we are screwed or totally screwed. We deserve what we get and NO people have turned back to God without being enslaved – it is our turn. 40% of us may have a chance to escape the slavery, but 60% are going to be enslaved one way or another. I have, as he was my Senator and I was more than happy to see him go, a complete embarrassment to the Republican party. The only reason his record wasn’t worse than what it is is because he got run off, LOST. I know the area he grew up in, the kind of person he try’s to be and most certainly who he is not. HE may appeal top those of you who don’t know the standard in these parts, but Santorum don’t make the grade. We don’t care for his kind around here.

Feb. 29, 2012 at 6:54pmThis story is misleading, not up to the standards I’ve come to expect from The Blaze. Romney’s position on this has been made clear often enough that there’s no excuse for this sort of shoddy journalism. Romney isn’t my first, second, or third choice for President, and he is by no means perfect, or free from guilt for being ‘Progressive’ on some things, far too much for my principles, and nearly too much to support in a general election (unless the opponent is a flat-out Marxist like Obama), but he doesn’t deserve to have his position misconstrued by the New York Times, and most especially, a source I actually trust: The Blaze.
Please get your story straight before you buy into the Marxist media spin, Santarelli!

Feb. 29, 2012 at 7:15pmHi, Tifosa,
Have you had a chance to read David Brooks’ opinion piece in the NYT on the current state of the Republican party? It is very good. I have posted it a couple of time, but I don’t think anyone has read it, at least not to discuss. Here it is again: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/28/opinion/brooks-the-possum-republicans.html?_r=2
As a Republican who switched parties last election, after voting Republican all my life, i don’t think I can ever go back to the party. Either I was blind for 30 years of voting, or the Party has mutated into something ugly, petty, without concern for the public good.
