Obama’s ‘Got a Friend’… in Longtime Crooner James Taylor

James Taylor has gone “all in” for President Obama recently, enthusiastically discussing how he is eager to blend his music with politics.

James Taylor Endorses Barack Obama“I am so – I really love this president.  I love what it says about America, that we were able to elect this man,” he said in an interview with WCNC.

After being honored by the White House for his musical achievements last week, Taylor was asked how he feels about Obama’s 2012 prospects.  “I think that the administration has been almost too modest in their accomplishments,” he responded, “and it’s remarkable to me that they get blamed for the problems that the people we elect actually haven’t caused. I’m hoping the American public understands [how] we got here, [and] what we’ve got in this president, a remarkable leader. It just makes me feel wonderful to see him in this White House…”

According to ABC News:

Taylor will hit the road in June and July for 18 concerts, including stops in general election battlegrounds Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Ohio and Colorado, where, he said, he will proudly promote Obama.

He performed Friday at two fundraisers for the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., that were also attended by first lady Michelle Obama. The events raised at least $675,000.

Watch a 1971 James Taylor perform “You’ve Got a Friend,” below:

    Yeah jimmy
u got a fiend alright. I got nothing but higher taxes, utility bills, higher food & fuel costs. What about my C D loses that used to pay for some of this & help bail me out when things got bad, it’s not even there anymore.
Thanks berry, with fiends like u, who needs anything, but foodstamps.

Agree. I’ve seen higher gas prices, higher medicial expenses, higher taxes. I’ve got a friend alright. Apparently he wants to see more “change”. Boycott his concerts, CDs, everything to with James Taylor.

I thought he was a schmucko with crappy music back in ’71…. I thought his concert sucked that I let my ex-wife talk me into going (now you know why she’s my ex…) And now, this. Obviously, this rectal opening has not achieved any intelligence with age.
Keep smoking that funny stuff, jim. Maybe you & the big O can have a little get together and talk world affairs & domestic finances over a freshly rolled doober….

That’s disheartening. Another way out of touch star who doesn’t get it. Have to scratch him off my list too. Even if it is just out of ignorance. But until famous people GET it, they get no more of my money. Sure, the residuals probably cover him well, but at least what the population buys probably covers his enormous taxes. Matt Damon, Sean Penn, Baldwin, and especially Gwyneth Paltrow will never see a dime of my money as I know others will not waste their money on them either.

      @MrBill,
Not real big on the thinkin’ thing eh bud? Flooding trillions into the economy through QE makes your money worth much less via inflation, governments hidden tax. There are the same amount of taxpayers now as there was in 1980! Unemployment, or not having a job takes money away just as quick as a tax!

My, but don’t these old hippie burnouts make it harder and harder to keep their inane unwanted social commentary separated from fans’ love of their life’s work? Like we really care, James. Put your giddiness over the guilt salve Obama represents in your bizarre life in a song, and let us fail you on that basis. Sheesh.

James Taylor is a singer/song writer, not an intellectual. He is an entertainer, not someone who I would turn to for advice. Guy is a waste of time & space on a personal level. He’s a cad & a typical dope-smoking society dropout. Isn’t that what Obama is all about? Do we really care? Guess I will be boycotting his records, too. I hate stupid people who are too stupid to know how stupid they really are. By all means, James, write a song about it. You need something useful to do for a change. Obama needs at least one friend so he has something to think about besides himself.

The very same James Taylor who has donned a tenderfoot cowboy hat in a shameless attempt to connect with country music fans in the twilight of his long-dead career . . . and cover up his bald head. I’m sure Obama had no idea who he was.

    Is James Taylor black? LOL

I think the “P” messed up…should have talked about the man who cut a song about Muggles. Louis Armstrong. Mugglies is a word use by Louis that refers to reefer. Then he would have captured the attention of all of the dope smokers of all colors. But alas Armstrong is deaded.

years ago when i lived on the upper west side of manhattan, i used to run into james taylor on occasion. woolworths, sometimes it was a pub. he was always so beautifully engaging — him having started the conversation.

oh how i would love to talk w/him now and set a few things straight in that, as it turns out, imperfect mind.

Maybe Talyor can rewrite Fire and Rain

Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone (golfing)
Barrack the plans you made put and end to U (SA)
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
Joe just can’t remember who to send it to

I’ve seen hope and I’ve seen Change
I’ve seen gas prices I thought would never end
I’ve seen lonely times when I couldn’t find a means to an end
But I always thought I would see America again.

Nice job and painfully true. Poor James. I love him as a musician, singer and songwriter, but politically he’s just another bleeding heart liberal. It never ceases to amaze me how musicians, who are essentially entrepreneurs in a market of almost pure competition, still don’t get it.
