During a panel discussion lead by MSNBC’s Martin Bashir on Tuesday, Blaze contributor S.E. Cupp addressed recent remarks made by Rep. Cliff Stearns, in which the congressman expressed sympathy with those who believe President Obama’s birth certificate is a fraud.
Bashir posited that it is incumbent on Republican leaders like John Boehner and Eric Cantor to reign in members of their party who make what he believes are outlandish assertions about the president.
Cupp fired back, however, stating that it is not the job of the majority leader to apologize for what others may say or do, and that ultimately, it is up to voters to decide whether or not to reelect a “birther” to office.
But, keeping true to form, Bashir did not let up, arguing that lawmakers must be held to a higher standard.
Cupp, not skipping a beat, reminded Bashir and the rest of the panel that key Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (to name a few) have made heinous statements in the past and that none of them were ever condemned by active Democratic lawmakers.
Panelist Julian Epstein disagreed with Cupp’s point, explaining that when the left called General David Petraeus “General Betray-Us” and other called for George W. Bush’s impeachment, he himself stood against it. He maintained that a “large” number of Republicans, on the other hand, are fixated on Obama’s birth certificate. Cupp corrected Epstein, clarifying that there have in fact only been a small number of Republican lawmakers who have embraced the issue to any degree.

With all the evidence mounting about o’s alleged birth certificate, his SS number, his SS card and more, there needs to be honest, frank discussions on this so WE THE PEOPLE know the truth. If the cert is legit, and his SS number is legit, and all the issues with both are mistakes, so be it.
But, to state that it’s a waste of time as so many do, including O’Reilly and Glenn, WHY WHY WHY is it a waste of time? What is wrong about the investigation and allegations that have been done thus far? O’Reilly brings up the newspaper announcements, yet I think they’ve proven that you can put an announcement in for anyone. That doesn’t mean that o was destined to be president when they put it in the paper. That merely means someone put it in the paper so he’d appear to be a citizen for any number of reasons.
Please, Glenn, inform us of why you think it’s a distraction and waste of time. If there is a possibility o’s cert is fake, then we need to know it, and America needs to arrest and prosecute him for crimes against our country. If the cert is legit, we’ll accept that. But, it needs to be proven.

There was a lot of really bad work done early on on the eligibility issue that has clouded the issue and there are a lot of people that got disgusted by the inanity and now just reject any part of the subject including the facts that are now coming to the fore.
As far as Glenn Beck, something happened to Glenn. Going up to his big Kumbayah march on the Mall, Glenn was approaching a moment that looked to potentially start a second civil war over Obama and his whole administration’s connections to a whole global cabal of Socialist and racial revenge groups.
Suddenly Glenn went all peaceful and while he still tried to wake people up to what was driving all of this he was rapidly being shut down and shunted aside. I would guess it was a 3-pronged attack by the Soros bunch and the Saudi/Muslim Brotherhood( whose connections were about to be seriously outed by Beck – they bought up a whole lot of FOX stocks to influence the network) AND by the Bilderberg bunch who always move to silence anyone who threatens to destabilize the their control over the country’s long-term direction. For one, the Republicans will have no stomach to deal with just like with Clinton. It will get tied up in courts (mostly liberal courts) forever. While some might find it annoying that the birth certificate matter is still spoken about, seems to me that somebody made their own bed, so to speak. If the sheets are scratchy, they’ll need to address the laundry themselves and remake the bed.

There could even be a distinction between being born in a U.S. territory that could become a state U.S. controlled territory that is U.S. controlled under a lease — such as the former Canal Zone (McCain was born in the Canal Zone).

Thus, McCain was a citizen at birth (he would have been if only one of his parents had been a citizen, of course). Does that make him a “natural born citizen” under the Constitution for the purpose of qualification for president? He was not “native born” as he was born outside of the United States. There is an argument that “natural born citizen” is the same as “native born citizen.” The Supreme Court has not ruled on the issue — but McCain got the “green light”– from a Senate Resolution. Wait, what? A Senate Resolution? Yup.

What about disrespecting our Constitution? Why does that not ever come up? Aren’t we supposed to ENSURE that the requirements in our Constitution are met….beyond a doubt? Even when I contacted my 2 Senators, I heard nothing from one and the other replied back that such “rumors” were very disrespectful to the President and to the office of the President. How ridiculous!

Only our president is required to be both a jus soli citizen, born on the soil, a native-born citizen, and a jus sanguinis citizen, born to parents who were citizens. Chief Justice Waite turned the common-law, cited by Chief Justice John Marshall, who cited Vattel’s Law of Nations, into precedent, postive law. Minor is quite readible. Don’t trust ‘pundits.” Read original sources, or read bloggers like the just retired Leo Donofrio or Mario Apuzzo, who have both written exhaustively about Article II Sect. 1. Born on the soil to citizen parents was never doubted until Obama’s handlers decided they couldn’t wait for an amendment.

Here is what the Supreme Court actually said in the Heppersett decision:
The Constitution does not, in words, say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common-law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners. Some authorities go further and include as citizens children born within the jurisdiction without reference to the citizenship of their parents. As to this class there have been doubts, but never as to the first. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS CASE IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO SOLVE THESE DOUBTS. It is sufficient for everything we have now to consider that all children born of citizen parents within the jurisdiction are themselves citizens.

The Heppersett opinion concerned women’s suffrage. The Supreme Court expressly noted the limited scope of its words.

Another original source that undermines the assertion that the “natural born citizen” Constitutional requirement for President and Vice-President requires both parents to be citizens. A person can be a citizen by birth or by naturalization. There is also the possibility that “natural born citizen” is the same as “native born citizen” (in such case, the controversy regarding Obama’s birth certificate could be of consequence). Please consider a statute enacted by the First Congress (being so close to the adoption of the Constitution, it provides great insight into the intent of the Framers). Specifically, “An Act to establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization” approved on March 26, 1790 (2nd. Session, Chapter III, Sec. 1) provides, inter alia, that “. . .the children of citizens of the United States, that may be born beyond the sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born citizens: Provided, That the right of citizenship shall not descend to persons whose fathers have never been resident in the Untied States.” Now, consider who is NOT mentioned in the statute: the “native born” — no mention of ANY child born inside United States. Why? Because, as native born, they are automatically “natural born citizens.” Was this changed by the 14th amendment? Perhaps to the extent that “natural born citizens” are limited to those born to person under the “jurisdiction” of the U.S. (i.e., not those here

Side note, I do not know why it would matter if he released or did not release his school records, as the constitution and American law do not require political leaders to have any formal education to be considered electable candidates, and therefore they also do not require publishing of school records.
As fellow citizens, you both have the right to believe what you believe. That is your right, and I will never challenge that. Ever. I only ask that you research and back up your claims.
