83-Year-Old Woman Suing Apple for $1 Million After Walking into Glass Door
A New York woman is suing Apple after walking face-first into one of their glass doors.Β She reportedly broke her nose as a result of the incident, and is suing Apple for $75,000 in medical expenses, and $1 million in punitive damages.
Evelyn Paswall, 83, is claiming that the doors pose a risk to the elderly.Β Her suit claims that “The defendant was negligent . . . in allowing a clear, see-through glass wall and/or door to exist without proper warning.β
Her attorney, Derek T. Smith, added:
‘Apple wants to be cool and modern and have the type of architecture that would appeal to the tech crowd, but on the other hand, they have to appreciate the danger that this high-tech modern architecture poses to some people.’
[...]
‘There were no markings on the glass or they were inadequate,β he [continued]. ‘My client is an octogenarian. She sees well, but she did not see any glass…The stereotypical Apple customer is a Gen-Y person or a teenager or a college student, but they have to realize that the elderly generation are their customers, too…’
Many are saying the lawsuit is overly litigious, and having “warning” signs on glass doors is absolutely unnecessary.
And that brings us to this video, which notes 25 other “ridiculous” lawsuits:

Posted on March 26, 2012 at 5:59pmThe business Martin Paswall Inc, that this woman Evelyn is associated with (she hold several titles including VP) is located in a builing that has glass doors as well. What is the difference? She knows the glass doors at her building are there & she thought this building just magically didn’t have any doors? Weird. Check out her building on google earth or your apple map app. Address for building that business is 345 7th avenue, New York. I zoomed into “street view” @ you can clearly see her building has glass doors!!!’n

Posted on March 26, 2012 at 5:37pmStupid is as stupid does. Perhaps she should sue her eye doctor too, and her psychiatrist, and the glass company for manufacturing a door that contains glass. Weren’t the handles and hinges a clue that there was a door there? How about a shower door, should there be a warning on that too? Does a step-up or step-down need a warning too? How about taking personal responsibility for just being stupid.

Posted on March 26, 2012 at 5:34pmI suppose that having lived for 83 years, she was simply remembering the good old days when none of the stores in New York needed doors so they all were open to the street.
With $76 Billion in cash reserves it’s GOT to be Apple’s fault that she made a stupid error.

Posted on March 26, 2012 at 4:59pmMaybe I should get into the business of making caution tape that can be applied to the entire door. It could say, “PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION you are approaching a glass door it operates like every other door but this message had to be applied because Evelyn Paswall could not see the door.

Posted on March 26, 2012 at 4:56pmWhat an overabundance of gall this old broad has. She walked into a glass door because she’s either too stupid or too blind to be allowed out in public alone and she wants someone else to pay for her bumbling mistake.

She should watch out the nanny police may come along and say if you are too old to see properly you should have your license revoked and not be allowed to go anywhere without an escort she is opening up a can of worms with this and it wonβt be good for the elderly… watch out its coming.

Posted on March 27, 2012 at 8:15amI’ve watched many a kid run through a glass door, shut it behind them, shortly followed by another that runs smack into the door, as though they forgot that one existed. This is nuts. Why is no one able to say that they are sometimes the victims of random FAIL moments and move on with life, rather than try to blame someone else for their silly, often avoidable, mistakes.
This one cost her a broken nose and some embarrassment. And the embarrassment is what that cool million is supposed to cover.

Posted on March 26, 2012 at 4:01pmI don’t trust the old and I never will. I remember an age old saying that goes…
Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill.
And I like to add the caveat that this is only true when the old indoctrinate the young into blind obedience and reverence for the old. This woman knew what she was doing and knows that she is merely trying to gain profit at the expense of others. In another time and place, she would be stoned to death or put in the stocks so that we could all throw rotten cabbages at her face. She deserves no less than a verbal chastising for her criminal behavior every day for years to come. She should be known to all as a deceitful person and should be looked down upon by all.

WTF?! This fashion of building things out of glass (or other see through synthetic substitutes) is hardly “new”–don’t you have a sliding glass door at home?
I am also a little confused as to how one just walks right into what is OBVIOUSLY a building that one is trying to enter–generally people find what is obviously a DOOR first, before they take a leap of faith and charge headlong into the building…
