Do you really want to know what atheists think about Christianity in America? How about President Obama’s handling of faith issues? In our new video compilation, “This Is What an Atheist Looks Like!,” we’ll show you, in non-believers’ own words, what they think about the concept of God, Christianity, their role in the political system and plenty more.
As we’ve reported, over the weekend thousands of non-theists graced Washington, D.C. with a fierce and boisterous presence. The Blaze was on hand to bring you the inside scoop. Along the way, we met anti-religious persons of all stripes at a secular lobbying training event and during the Reason Rally.
From insanely inappropriate language about faith and religion to respectful disagreement, the “freethinkers” we encountered were diverse in terms of tactics and tone. Their main points of agreement with one another? There’s no God, no afterlife and absolutely no room for belief in the “supernatural.”
We decided to ask numerous leaders in the atheist movement and Reason Rally attendees four key questions:
- What brings you to Reason Rally?
- If you could deliver any message to Christians in America, what would it be?
- If you could condense Christianity into one or two words, what would they be?
- How has President Barack Obama handled the secular community in America?
From insightful to down-right-bizarre, the atheistic responses we gathered were intriguing to say the least. One woman said, ”Get your religion out of my girl panties.” Another claimed that Christianity can best be framed as “ignorant.” James Randi, a well-known magician and one of the event speakers, told The Blaze that Christians should “grow up” and that any religious person is essentially living in the “14th century.”
Here are a few of the other labels given to Christianity: “Irrational,” “false dogma,” “mass cult,” “anti-intellectualism,” “popular,” “clusterf**k,” “authoritarian,” “paternalistic” and “overwhelmingly fundamentalist.”
Watch the hilarity in “This Is What an Atheist Looks Like!,” below:

Apr. 4, 2012 at 5:58amJust catching up on this. You know what I love? Sure, some of these people are sort of dorky looking (although really only a few) but overall the views they display are (a) diverse and (b) overwhelmingly reasonable. Adding stock “silly” music to modest, non-crazy statements doesn’t make them sound any loonier. The commenters talking about tinfoil hats and reptoids are so off-base it’s laughable. The interviewees aren’t expressing anything close to that mindset. They mostly seem very well-balanced and sane. I don’t understand a world where LACKING a belief in a magical invisible demon who can read the minds of all people and can set the entire world on fire makes you the crazy one.

Apr. 1, 2012 at 11:22amI don’t really care what the religious atheists believe about other religions or Obama.
The problem I have with anyone speaking about Obama is that the truth should be spoken without the threats of folks calling people “racist” for speaking the truth about this failure President.

Apr. 1, 2012 at 2:31amGod will and does stand up for Himself. Only time will tell. I’d rather be safe then sorry. Don’t refuse to consider Him. He is the standard to look up to, not people. He will reveal Himself.
“To know wisdom and instruction,
To perceive the words of understanding,
To receive the instruction of wisdom,
Justice, judgment, and equity; To give prudence to the simple,
To the young man knowledge and discretion—
A wise man will hear and increase learning,
And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel,
To understand a proverb and an enigma,
The words of the wise and their riddles. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
But fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:2-7

Apr. 1, 2012 at 12:37amSo, if Atheist believe that there is no God and that the bible is to be refuted. It seems that they believe that there is no super-natural realm and that life emerged from confusion and chaos. From that murky begining, happenstance and eviromental influences caused changes but without intellegent guidance and definitely nothing scientific that could reveal evidence of a deity or God. Can someone explain how a man just stumbled accross the info contained in this video? The verse he refers to is over 2000 years old but the events that are tied to the verse just happened on 9-11.

Remember that you don’t have to believe in God to watch this video and you can ignore what is revealed without consequences. Or maybe the consequences will be evident even if you do ignore it.

Apr. 1, 2012 at 12:18amAtheists seem to believe in confusion, lack of universal control and an unorganized completely non-consequencial existence that has happened to have resulted in an uninfluenced life that changes on a day-to-day basis. Thus believing there is no evidence and no scientific data that reveals proof of a diety or God. Can you watch this video and explain what is revealed in it then. Remember that the verse that is tied to these events is over 2000 years old, and 1 man pieced all of this together! Oh yeah, just by chance without any external influence or guidance!

Mar. 31, 2012 at 11:45pmI do get the impression from many of these comments that most of the people here know NOTHING about the history of Conservativism and probably have not read a serious book on Conservative thought ever. It has only been since 1968 that the so-called “Christian Right” has been a serious contributor to the Republican Party in the USA. The great Conservative Arizona senator, Barry Goldwater, warned against letting these people gain a foot hold in our party. For centuries “religion” was the a liberal cause based on no empirical evidence and only on intuition. Ayn Rand, author of the Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, and perhaps the greatest Conservative thinker in the 20th Century was an unwavering atheist as is anybody who looks at life on a realistic level. If we lament the erosion of Conservative thought in the USA today it is exactly because we have permitted a mob of schizophrenics to take over our party. Let’s get back to reality and start winning. There is no God!

Mar. 31, 2012 at 6:23pmDear YOHANNBIIMU – thank you – that was put so well. Why would anyone true in their belief have to be so totally against someone else’s belief? For example, I am very secure in the belief that I exist. If someone confronts me and tells me I don’t exist – I’m just going to laugh and walk away. However, if I’m not really secure in my belief of my existence, I’d probably stand there and argue with him.
I don’t believe that all aetheists are immoral, but I believe that it’s probably more difficult for them to be moral. I believe God gives us the moral compass to continue in this life, which at times can be very trying. I’m glad I have God to give me guidance.
One thing I did notice was that most of these aetheists were pretty young – about the age of people who believe in liberalism. “Any 20 year-old who isn’t a liberal doesn’t have a heart, and any 40 year-old who isn’t a conservative doesn’t have a brain. (quote from Winston Churchill)
Of course there was that one old guy who said God hadn’t given us any evidence of his existance. Oh my goodness gracious – I guess Mother Theresa wasn’t proof – and I guess Bernadette Soubirous was not proof enough – and I guess just our pure existence is not proof enough. What a folly that this man has made it this far in his lonely life without belief.

Mar. 31, 2012 at 4:06pmThe non-theists and Mitt Romney and the Mormons? How will they react? Like Chris Hitchens find it somewhat sinister?
Many Right Wing Fundamentalists are institutionally and generationally Mormonphobic.. They are ones America loves to hate and dems try to define the entire GOP. as being. Media paints GOP as racist s and bigots due to statements of some of these. Majority of tea partiers and evangelicals do not fit into this category or Mitt Romney would not be winning.

Utah ranks 2nd in happiness of all states, topped only by Hawaii. and atheists are smart enough to prefer Hawaii fun in the sun and the natural love of native Hawaiians that color that states culture. PEW Landmark survey study shows Mormons high in family values and life satisfaction. Includes atheists and unaffiliated. Protestants now 51% but declining. Much on religious trending stats. In the young unaffiliated and unbelief is on the rise.
Will be interesting to watch the atheists and Mormon Mitt (who does not wear his religion on his church sleeve-just lives its values) How open minded are these religious and political thought mixing opponents? Power is goa

Mar. 31, 2012 at 3:18pmOur country was founded on RELIGIOUS FREEDOM! Obviously, those who choose not to practice any religion have that choice, SO LEAVE US ALONE! We are not in the 14th Century and I see no relevance to this as a religious scholar. Atheists are those who do not see a rainbow, a blue sky, a lovely lake or ocean, because there is no beauty to behold if one does not recognize the creator of everything. Do they celebrate Christmas, Easter, or any other religious holiday? Bet your booties they do! They choose to live life without hope, while we prefer to live it to the full in the love and glory of God. Which brings more joy? Not an empty soul/spirit for sure. Don’t they realize that since time immemorial humans have recognized and adored a “creator”. So, they think they are better. Hardly. They only recognize their base instincts and that leads nowhere except to license and sickness both mental and physical. I pity them because they have no real arguments for their existence.

Mar. 31, 2012 at 3:04pmThe author of this is divisively trying to lump together all atheists falsely as Liberals supporting Obama.
I know many folks NOT into religion, including myself, who are staunch Conservatives strongly opposed to Obama, and who have no axe to grind against those who believe in religion.
We need to UNITE on the basis of our common desire to restore America under Conservative values.

Mar. 31, 2012 at 12:50pmIt seems as though both sides have gone to extremes to try to prove their point.
I am a Christian, but I see flaws everywhere with organized religion, atheist, agnostics, cults you-name-it. Mankind has a profound propensity to excuse themselves – the means justifies the end – type of thinking.
To begin with our universe was was not created in perfection. Perfection is our eternal goal, nor our origin. Consider evolution – the earth is in constant change. In our evolving universe of relative perfection and imperfection we should rejoice that disagreement and misunderstanding are possible, for therefor is evidenced the fact and the act of personality in the universe.
The diversity of the universe should be a clue to all that a supreme power did indeed design a perfectly changing environment from the stars to the earth and mankind. Evolution is indeed present today in all.

Mar. 31, 2012 at 12:36pmAll the time and effort that atheists put into proving there is no God just proves that there is.
If there wasn’t a God, they wouldn’t have to spend so much time and energy trying to prove that there isn’t. If there wasn’t a God there wouldn’t be all this proof around that He does exist, and that they feel they have to prove didn’t come from God. They claim it’s all a fluke of nature somehow. They can’t explain it either. They hide behind science thinking most people don’t understand science so therefore they need not explain it to them. I would rather live my life believing there is a God and die to find out there isn’t, than to live my life as if there isn’t and die to find out there is. Too late then. I don’t want to take that chance. I am not a risk taker in anything. I don’t buy lottery tickets either.
I am happy in my beliefs…I think atheists are happy in theirs, too. Let’s all just get along and repsect each other. Most atheists are good people who want to get along with their neighbor. It is the lack of respect and understanding for our neighbor that causes trouble. Even atheists believe in repsect and understanding. They just need to practice it more. WE ALL NEED to practice it more.
