Feminist Writer Slams Katy Perry Video Paying Tribute to Servicewomen

Naomi Wolf, a prominent feminist writer who managed to get arrested during the Occupy Wall Street protests last year, has a new bone to pick; Katy Perry’s “Part of Me” music video. Why? Because it’s “a total piece of propaganda for the Marines.”

The video features Perry dressed and training as a Marine to celebrate female empowerment and an “affirmation of strength,” by paying particular tribute to service women.

The author of “The Beauty Myth” is not a fan and is calling for a boycott of the pop star.

“I really want to find out if she was paid by them for making it,” Wolf wrote on her Facebook page. “It is truly shameful … I would suggest a boycott of this singer whom I really liked — if you are as offended as this glorification of violence as I am.”

Hollywood publicist Angie Meyer told The Daily Mail that “Naomi Wolf is a living, breathing contradiction. Her anti-military sentiments against the men and women fighting to defend the freedoms she exercises regularly, speech and protest, is absurd and disturbingly disgraceful.”

Perry told MTV last week that ”This is one of the most aggressive videos I have ever done.”

“It is an affirmation of strength, so I wanted to go the strongest route I could.”

  Katy Perry just got a new fan, with much appreciation for her support of the military.I’m an old former Marine, and my son did 2 tours in Iraq as a proud Marine. Naomi is classic example of coward who lets others do her fighting for her. Totally gutless.

  The Military swears an oath to DEFEND the Constitution, not puppet dictators, opium fields, and oil pipelines.
  Unfortunately the US military has become the strong arm of the central banking cartels that overthrow sovereign nations through the World Bank, the IMF, and other institutions that implode their economies on purpose through their loansharking practices.

You should be down on your knees every night thanking God that there is a United States Marine Corps and that the men and women who serve in it still volunteer to put their lives on the line to guard and protect both you and this country, you nattering, liberal, elitist, Feminist pseudo-sophisticate. George Bernard Shaw once wrote, “We sleep safe in our beds at night because somewhere in the world rough men are willing to do violence in our names.” Since the Women Marines (Then the Marinettes….) were formed during WWI, our Corps has also been comprised of some pretty tough and dedicated women as well. “Women Marines: Fewer.   Two Thoughts:
  First. isn’t Naomi Wolf the adviser that was trying to teach Al Gore how to be more masculine?
  
  Second, if the music video is propaganda for the Marines what is wrong with it? If the marines are a good organization, there can’t be anything wrong with supporting them. Of the marines are bad, Naomi shouldn’t be just calling out Kate Perry. Naomi should be campaigning to defund them. Calling out Kate perry without voraciously calling out the Marines is cowardly. Were the Marines a force for good in WWII or the Korean War? If they were not a good organization during the Vietnam War who sent them to Vietnam? LBJ did. Do the Marines have a perfect record? No. Show me who does. The Red Army raped 140,000 women in 1945. During WWII, the French had foreign troops that had raping & looting as part of their contract.
  
  Before you criticize American troops & compare them to other countries, consider which other armies have been in large wars, prolonged combat or subjected to grueling psychological stress. Such stress would be having to adhere to the Geneva Conventions & varying absurd ROE for years while the enemy does not.
  
  Do you realize that in the last 2 decades Russian has leveled whole cities with artillery. How many civilians were killed. The same media & pundits which ignore Grozny but lambaste the U.S. if a few bombs are off course.

  In Afghanistan there was a case where a soldier fell out of helicopters & was obviously disabled & unable to fight. The Taliban killed him anyway. This is on top of all the other Geneva convention violations in Iraq & Afghanistan. It has an effect on soldiers. But liberals, like Naomi, only count the misdeeds of one side.

What a patriotic tribute. I loved the video and see it more as an empowerment to women, which I thought this so-called feminist was for. What is wrong with giving a positive message about those that serve our country and allow for the freedoms being taken for granted by Naomi?

My daughter went to college on a scholarship she earned but the rest was paid by the army (she pushed off going to college for one year and joined the Army Reserves). Her boot camp training gave her confidence and set her on a new course – to become a doctor. After college with no debt she transferred to the Navy and went to medical school. She is now in her third year of residency. If it was not for the military, she never would have seen her potential. Isn’t that what feminists are suppose to support – empowering women and getting them to realize their worth? For my daughter, the military did just that.

This violence is what has made it possible for Wolf to speak her mind, for her as a woman to have rights, for her to live in freedom and safety. There is a reason we have the strongest military, there is a reason why Americans have the highest living standards, the most freedoms, and the most opportunities. Could this be military propaganda to get people to join? Perhaps, but I have no problem with our military’s ranks getting a boost!

whoever you are – there is nothing finer or more honorable than a United States Marine – I can spot a Marine from a mile (once a Marine always a Marine) -their carriage is different forever. And because we live in such a pc world (even conservatives can be indocrinated) – All US Service Personel are fabulous and I thank you for your willingness to do what you do to keep me safe – there is something extra special about a Marine – first in last out
