Firefighter Who Filed for Workers Comp. Caught Moonlighting as MMA Fighter Named ‘The Noodle’

Lying to get off work has long been a problem that has dogged employers. But perhaps no one has so fantastically bungled the deception than firefighter Rafael Davis, who apparently was using the pretext of work-disabling ailments to moonlight as a mixed martial arts fighter known as the “The Noodle” and fight in tournaments.

LA Weekly has the bizarre story in full:

Prosecutors say that laid-up L.A. city firefighter Rafael Davis was caught moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter, under the name “The Noodle:”

The 35-year-old was arrested at his Lomita home at 9 a.m. this morning on suspicion of insurance fraud, according to a statement from the L.A. County District Attorney’s office.[...]

Prosecutors contend that the Los Angeles Fire Department employee filed for workers compensation insurance between Dec. 2, 2008, to May 20, 2011, even as he fought in MMA bouts.

The consequences for “The Noodle” may be more dire than simple firing, however. Because he filed falsely for workers’ compensation insurance, he’s now being held on four counts of insurance fraud, with no less than $30,000 bail. Not exactly the kind of price tag he’ll be able to prize fight his way out of.

In Davis’ defense, he at least was good at mixed martial arts. His record on prize-fighting websites shows him winning 12 fights and only losing 2, suggesting that perhaps he had the wrong career all along. You can even watch him take on an opponent in this video:

During his alleged period of being “incapacitated,” Davis participated in no less than seven fights. He won all of them. If this is incapacitation, he should hope he’s that incapacitated when he’s in jail.

I can’t get past “The Noodle”. What kind of stupid name is that for a MMA fighter? “Ohhhh, watch out for The Noodle! Especially if his buddies, “Chicken” and the fighter formerly known as “&” is with him.” He should go to jail just for that ridiculous name.

This kind of fraud goes on in millions of food stamp homes all over the country…so what is so different about this story??? We workers eat hamburger helper and chuck roast…..and food stamp recipients eat shrimp and crab legs and steaks. It’s no different than what this knucklehead was doing with workmens compensation. Half the country gets paid for working….the other half of the country gets paid for not working. This story is not one bit different. Liars and cheaters and losers are everywhere. Why do we have to give food stamps to a woman or man that weighs 300 something pounds? Haven’t they had enough to eat? We reward the welfare family with more free stuff….every time they pop out another kid. They can’t pay for the hospital and doctor bills for the childbirth…..they can’t pay for the new kids food or diapers or shelter…..and so we…..the half that work…..pay for yet another welfare receiving infant….one probably doomed to the same free loading lifestyle that mommy and the baby daddy muddle through every single day and night and month and year and decade…..it just never stops. The “benefits” never stop. I gave up long ago….those of us who work….have been duped like a bunch of stooges.

Yep, and the UNION will defend him and demand he be rehired. The Union Hacks (Bosses) don’t care that he defrauded the Workman’s Comp. system all they want is to use their political power and manipulate their political cronies.

      SAD!!!!

If he’s guilty, he deserves prison. But I’d like more information before rushing to judgment (it’s unfair for anybody to be tried in the media, not just the people we like or agree with). What was the nature of his workers’ comp claim? It’s an important question, because on some safety-related jobs, the medication you’re taking could medically disqualify you from working even if you could bench press a semi. I don’t know about firefighters, but my job is this way.

Come on, guys. It’s just another Californian doing what he’s been taught from the day he was born. I don’t see why you are so upset. The government and insurance companies have plenty of money and he’s just trying to get his share. When he goes to jail he might be eligible for some of Obama’s stash. And worst case he gets a free gym, three hots and a cot for a couple of years. It’s all good, Homes.

It is all going to come down to race. If he is a white hispanic, then he is guilty. If he is black, or just regular hispanic, then it is the fault of the employer and the government.

We get what we pay for. We want workers protected against the employers we get judges who are activist who side with the ‘poor injured worker” who can’t work but can dance, run, fight, climb, carry, shovel, swing, pound, raise up, craw, drive, fish, bowl, play tennis, ball and all of the other things that are fun and useful, just can’t do these things on the job. These low-life misfits who are most UNION sheeples who look always to your pocket and never to their own! True Democrats!

Similiar to a Boston firefighter that was caught doing a body building contest while being out with a “bad back.” Maybe not a typical public union hack but the examples are many more than meet the public eye.

this is a problem through out the whole system I know many many people that are collecting disability that can work, instead of collecting SSI when they turned 62 they claimed an injury and bam they are on disability instead and yet people blame the baby boomers that put 30 + years into the system I think not

    - Fighting men is easier than fighting fires?
    - Maybe he presents with dissociative identity disorder?
    - Racists!!!
